Scottish Tourism - the Excellent Cats debate Gizmo's suitability as a top influencer

Yeah, right.

Linney is more suitable.

At least he's actually a Scottish cat.

Gizmo is an English interloper, who only came to Scotland in order to get behind my bathroom cupboard.

Hugs from Kitty & me, @Pianoaholic. I’m sorry things are so tough at the moment.

Thank you. Lovely photo of Kitty.
We actually got Herbie a little while after I lost mum as I decided I wanted something positive in my life.
On the whole, it has been positive!

Pixiedust1234 · 11/10/2025 21:04

Poor Herbie, he looks absolutely exhausted. He's had his nose to the grindstone trying to earn a little extra for treats now he's been ousted from the neighbours dog bowl and he just gets a grumpy slave glaring at him. No wonder he's taken to his bed 😿

Sorry to hear your troubles though Flowers

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/10/2025 21:10

Oh Lord, is Herbie still stuffing himself with dog biscuits?

I don't know!
Neighbour checked their footage and said he'd been popping in (!) but they've been keeping the food out of the way now.
Today he hadn't gone next door, so I think he's found somewhere else which may be a source of food.
@Pixiedust1234 thanks, your post made me smile!

Pudmyboy · 11/10/2025 22:12

Sorry you are having a tough time @Pianoaholic , things always seem to happen in threes, so you are due three good things very soon.

Pudmyboy · 11/10/2025 22:16

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 22:42

And Gizmo can't reach them

Not from that angle, he can't!

Pudmyboy · 11/10/2025 22:17

My Mumsnet is being very glitchy today- anyone else having problems?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/10/2025 22:50

@Pianoaholic I'm afraid there is no doubt that our excellent cats are actually on the whole a bunch of mercenary little buggers. Lenny has been a dirty stop out the last few nights. Quite happy to come in for breakfast but I strongly suspect his motives...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/10/2025 22:56

In other news...

Although I haven't personally spotted these yet, Mrs G has.
We now have some NMPs pottering about on our road 😲

That's Gizmo, with his pig suit on.

I wondered where he'd gone. He was obviously missing you and Mrs Grumpy.

Loving the Pigs!
What have they found to munch on 🐽?

learieonthewildmoor · 12/10/2025 03:53

Do people still keep pigs n their back yards, or are they escapees from a local farm?
That has to be your best NMA, Grumpy. Awesome. Unless you come across a Jersey cow.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/10/2025 07:27

Definitely no pig farm, but there is a field at the top of the road, owned by travellers, which periodically homes goats and a few horses. Escapees of those are not uncommon. I can only assume they are keeping a few pigs now.
Never seen NMC(ows) on the road @learieonthewildmoor but there is open land at the bottom end of the road which is used for grazing. Went for a walk yesterday and the herd was out and about (photos from last year). They'd have to learn to operate a stile and a gate to get to the road though.
Our street is oddly rural considering we live less than a mile from an M25 junction.

Apparently there are some sheep and cows who have learned to roll over cattle grids to escape! So what's to stop pigs, who are much more intelligent than either?

I'd never underestimate a pig. I've read Animal Farm. 🐖

Pudmyboy · 12/10/2025 11:53

Yesterday Mumsnet was very glitchy for me so couldn't load this picture, made me think of Grumpy and his fluffy felines:

Pudmyboy · 12/10/2025 11:55

Okay still glitchy: I will try again.
Still being slow so I will try to add it separately from text

Pudmyboy · 12/10/2025 12:07

Yeah it's not even pretending to upload!
Will persevere!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 12/10/2025 12:20

Linney is trying to tell me something, I think.

This morning, I heard the miaowing from him which signifies:

"I've brought you a dead animal to eat"

So out I went, and there was a dead mouse lying beside him. Sighing, I got a plastic bag and disposed of it.

Ten minutes later, Linney deposited a dead vole on the front step.

I disposed of that, too, then went to church.

On my return, Linney was nowhere to be seen, but he'd left me a dead rat on the steps this time.

Well, I've chucked that out, too.

Gizmo is (for once in his not-especially-blameless life) innocent. He was asleep in his donut the whole time.

We had a runaway pig living her best life in the woods a few years ago. She had been pregnant when she escaped and was busy raising a family of wild piglets by the time she was recaptured. Bit sad really.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/10/2025 16:45

Lenny appears to be smartening up his image. He's almost looking respectable in a bit of late afternoon sunlight today. 😁

Herbie stayed in most of the day. He went out for an hour just now. He has a new collar with a note stuck to it saying 'do not feed me or let me in' so we'll see what happens.
I have also put a litter tray near the back door in case we have to consider restricting his movements a bit (which I don't want to do).
And we'll do some notes to go through doors.
Quite hard to outwit a determined cat though. It would be easier if people didn't invite them in and feed them!
Anyway Herbie up to his tricks as usual.

I expect Linney wants to do his bit to help out.
