Calling all cats! Come and get some chicken.

Damn I love the NHS (sarcastic). 2pm call with the neuro consultant today, decided to take the day off as reception at work is pants, and if I move from my desk during a call it's likely to drop out. I make calls from my car outside, but thought I can't really sit outside waiting for the call if he's late.

Good call on my part - still waiting 45 mins after it was due. Even Girlcat, who was making the most of having mama home for an extra day, has given up on fusses and cuddles and has gone upstairs for her afternoon nap.

Esgaroth · 23/09/2025 16:33

I asked him if he'd consider not pulling himself along the floor with his claws in the sofa.

My DD's cat does this all the time and one of ours does it occasionally.

It looks so silly that it's difficult not to laugh. But it's not something that they would do in the 'wild' is it? So why?

learieonthewildmoor · 23/09/2025 16:51

I’d like to announce the official change of season here where I live. Cat Three is sleeping ON the bed, rather than under it snuggled in the big fluffy cat bed under it; which means it is warm now, not cold.
I know everyone is glad to have such an efficient weather predictor, rather than having to rely on the Bureau of Meterology.
Here he is returning once more to his Spring throne, which he hasn’t been on for all of winter.

He does it when it's getting close to dinner time, so I think for him he's saying don't forget about me. It also does look pretty fun. I might try it if I had sharp claws.

The sofa is around 15 years old from IKEA, so it's not exactly our pride and joy, but the Spiderman act is definitely not doing it any favours.

learieonthewildmoor · 23/09/2025 16:56

Esgaroth: Cats One, Two and Four do that. I have a theory it’s an indoor cat race memory. If I look at the couch without my glasses from far away, it looks fine.

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/09/2025 18:31

Kitty does that along the side of the bed. It’s often a sign that she wants the drawer opened.

That sounds a huge pain, @Allergictoironing. Did they eventually call?

Allergictoironing · 23/09/2025 18:44

Nah, I gave up at about 5pm.

My childhood cat Misty used to do that but
underneath beds. They were shredded!
I would be happy if Herbie did that as it would be preferable to the current dog food thefts.
Kettle looks very cute doing that. It must be impossible to be cross with him!

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/09/2025 19:30

And that’s normal? Shit.

No idea if that's normal for Kings or not, I'll assume that the people with in person appointments were all seen at some stage today.

To be honest there probably wasn't an awful lot of point in it if it was with the consultant. They can't do my back until I've lost weight and I'm struggling partly due to work stress and partly due to hefty recent dental work meaning I'm limited on what I eat. Both Kings AND my GP were supposed to be referring me to their relevant weight loss clinics but I'm still waiting to hear from them 6 weeks and 4 weeks ago respectively. My local health authority won't prescribe the new weight loss meds unless the patient has at least 4 of the conditions on their list, and needing surgery isn't on there nor is being physically unable to exercise due to pain, and I only have 2 others (BMI & high BP).

So again I just sit here waiting to hear from bloody Kings with no idea when they'll get in touch, then they'll expect me to be able to drop everything - last time I got a text on Sunday morning with an appointment the following Tuesday, brought forward from December!

Happy first anniversary, may you have many more with the cutie pie 😻

How’s Kettle’s cross-stitch portrait going, @Esgaroth?

I’m so sorry, Allergic. That’s absolutely crap.

My first cat Helix used to do this, at high speed. We used to sing "spidercat" whenever she did it.

EmpressaurusKitty · 24/09/2025 08:37

Kitty enjoying her catnip wand toy & (slightly blurred) jumping up to catch Barry from Bari, who’s apparently most fun when on a stick.

Oh not much progress, I've been on a break from it with our holiday and also I got a new game for my birthday and the Strike book... I'll be back to it once I've completed Kingdom Come Deliverance II (which is an absolute cracker for any RPG fans although I know most of you are far more cultured than that).

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/09/2025 12:47

Hi everyone. I wanted to share something with you which has nothing to do with cats, but you're my friends, and I don't want to start a thread about this.

Anyway. My husband walked out on me, and ended our marriage, a week ago. It was sudden and unexpected.

But actually I'm fine. I'm getting used to being on my own, and I have lots of friends in the village, and I go out to all kinds of clubs and activities, so I'm not lonely.

It's good to have DS2 and DD2 here. They've been a great support.

DS1 is coming up for Christmas.

Linney and Gizmo are being their usual argumentative selves.

Bloody hell @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne No idea what I can say other than I'm so sorry, and that must have been a horrible shock.
My sympathy and best wishes to you. 💐

Esgaroth · 24/09/2025 13:02

Oh Broon, that must be really hard. I'm sorry and I hope you're all right.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne So sorry for your news. He must be bonkers because we all adore you! Hug your cats. And get virtual hugs from us all

Defiantly41 · 24/09/2025 13:36

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I’m so sorry. There’s nothing I can say that doesn’t sound like a platitude, but you do have very good friends here, so feel free to vent, knowing we have you held safe x
