..... behind Gizmo, of course.

Calling all cats! Come and get some chicken.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne no lol!
Very similar though - he’s out roaming tonight despite the thunder and heavy rain - thought it might send him home!
I did get to see him recently though

Who knew there was such a variety of cat toys!
I won't get one for Herbie as his favourite toy is an old shoelace!
He has settled on the bed for the night.

Our have got peacock feathers at the moment. Sybil gets very excited with hers but had already broken it in two.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOneyou may be pleasantly surprised! Alternatively Gizmo may just attack and kill the worm and break the toy.

@HumanToCatBeastiesI'm also in a Victorian terrace. So far there haven't been any new ghosts, either feline or human.

I have so many questions. How posh are you're cats Grumpy? How did you're cats acquire peacock features as a toy? Or is this a new thing available at major retailors that I've missed?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/09/2025 23:38

Whenever we visit a country house that keeps peacocks we keep our eyes open 😁. The most recent lot came from a visit to McAlpine's place in Fawley - they had a vase full of them which you could take for a small donation. I took four for a couple of of quid. The cats go mad for them.

And yes our cats think they are very posh 🤣

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/09/2025 05:39

I was a bit concerned that I might come back to a houseful of spirits but I didn’t.

The orange worm is the pointer, the message is the letters it’s next to when the cat jumps on it. Although they spell complete gibberish in human so must be spelling out words in cat.

On BBC News this morning, on the Tech Now segment, there was a guy who photographs animals as a living and most of the interview was showing him in the studio doing a photoshoot with cats. He was getting the most amazing pics of a Bengal doing that leaping, twisting thing in mid air chasing after a toy, plus they showed loads of pics of Chimera cats (half and half coloured right down the middle) and ones with really cute markings like one with a bandit mask.

Well worth getting on iPlayer to have a look.

So how do I persuade Basil to sod off so I can have a snooze in the cat bed?

We had two dogs when I was a child and if the thick one was taking up the prime spot in the dog bed, the clever one would bark as if someone was at the door. Thick dog would jump up in excitement, while clever dog would quickly steal her spot. Thick dog fell for this every time.

Feel free to share these tactics with Sybil if she can find a cat equivalent.

Forty minutes on and Basil has been pushed to one side of the bed 😁

That's the way Road does it too. Squash in next to sibling, slowly move around, pushing sibling out of the way. Bonus points if sibling then buggers off and you get the whole bed.

Exactly Sybil's model behaviour too - often accompanied by some unwanted grooming.
Hasn't worked today though - both still in the bed.

We took Cat One to the vet for his cat flu etc booster. I got scratched up foolishly attempting to give him gabapentin on my own.
To show his displeasure, Cat One knocked two glass items off the table, looking me in the eye while he did so.
He was in such a bad mood DH and I together could not get the last gabapentin into him. He went to the vet yowling, hissing and spitting.
As soon as we left the vet he calmed right down, walked out of the carrier happy as Larry, and curled up on the couch purring.
I submit him for consideration as You Bastard Cat.

Very apt headgear for all cats as they judge us and finding us wanting!

Did Finlay model for this one @JaceLancs
https://amzn.eu/d/00w9XUZ

I agree that could be Finlay, but I can't work out how cats play with that......and by the look on the faces of the other cats, neither can they....I wonder if the fake Finlay was in fact channeling Gizmo and giving whoever was trying to pose them what we used to call 'what for' when I was a kid?

I wish Boris and Matilda would still share a cat bed. They used to snuggle up together as kittens, but their relationship now would best be described as Matilda tolerates Boris. It doesn't help that he pounces on her tail when she's using the litter tray or tries to start a play fight when she's sleeping, he's the cat equivalent of socially awkward with her. He's lovely with humans though, I suppose you can't have everything. I do feel for Matilda though.

RumNotRun · 14/09/2025 23:02

Frankenstein has started sleeping on my bed again, so we now have a bedtime routine which involves me giving him a Lick-e-lix or similar alternative. Tonight he had a catnip Dreamies Creamy. He's saving that bit for later.

I’m not telling Kitty that Frank’s bedtime routine involves Lickelixes & Dreamies Creamies.

She looks like a female version of Gizmo.

I love that. I've seen it/something similar before and it always comes in my head when I see a cat sitting outside a front door.

Surprisingly I've managed to keep Frank's bedtime routine a secret from all the other cats. I doubt it will last.
