Calling all cats! Come and get some chicken.

We're home from Toronto (where we saw not a single cat). Feeling jet lagged and horrible but it's lovely to see Kettle again.

He informs me that nobody fed him at all the whole time we were away, which is surprising because my friend was actually staying with him and she said she did feed him. Don't know who to believe...

Anyway, he's keeping a close eye on me to make sure I don't try and abandon him again.

That’s a very hard stare!

How was Toronto apart from the lack of cats?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/09/2025 17:15

I never see cats when I go on holiday either@Esgaroth
Kettle looks very displeased in that picture.

Frankenstein's head appears to have fallen off. Also a photo of him and Toad, showing their size difference!

Kettle clearly hasn't been fed for days, weeks, maybe even months! He needs a whole roast chicken to himself to get his strength back.

I'm currently on holiday. I've seen a big ginger tom in the apartment complex, who came by my patio area for a nosey earlier. No camera on me at the time, but will try to get him later.... Meanwhile, my cat sitter has sent me a photo of Agatha glaring at her from the top of the stairs. It's the same photo she gets every holiday. For 4 years. Sigh.

Toronto was OK - it wouldn't have been my first choice of destination but we had a family wedding to attend. Very car centric, massive multi-lane highways and huge SUVs everywhere. And no cats! I assume they were all inside due to coyotes and cars. But some nice bits and we had lovely weather at least.

Kettle does do a good line in hard stares but he doesn't mean anything by it. My friend said she'd been throwing his biscuits for him to get him doing a bit more exercise and I must say I like the idea! He's got to go for his annual worming and check up etc soon and I'm hoping for some positive comments about his weight 😄

I think in Canada it is more common to have indoor cats @Esgaroth .
My SIL has an indoor cat, she lives in the suburbs of Toronto and she did say it was common to have indoor cats there, when she came over to UK last year.

Yes, someone we spoke to had had a little dog eaten by coyotes so I think you have to be much more careful there!

The kids are back at school today and I'm supposed to be working but Kettle and I have a lot of cuddles to catch up on.

Every time I see a photo of Kettle I think what a handsome chap he really is. 😻

(Not saying that all the other cats on the thread aren't also gorgeous of course. 😁)

Allergictoironing · 02/09/2025 15:50

Girlcat is NOT impressed with me today. Maybe about once or twice a year I'll work a day or part of a day from home, and this afternoon I happen to be doing that. Not only am I home, but what I'm doing is brain dumping stuff then categorising by importance & urgency so I'm sitting at my own PC rather than perched at the other desk on the lap top.

In Girlcat's mind (quite reasonably going by normal behaviours) this means I'm not working so should be able to drop everything & attend to her at a second's notice. But if I'm on a roll with the work I'm not doing that today, as otherwise I'll lose my thread.

I'm getting little pats on my leg, interspersed with pathetic little cries or annoyed "mah" noises. Thank goodness I've got the bulk of the thinking bit done.

Esgaroth · 02/09/2025 16:26

I'm with Girlcat, YABVU.

Pianoaholic · 02/09/2025 16:57

Oh, and I forgot to say that SIL's cat is called Steve, which I found quite funny!

We just had a very pretty little visitor. Unfortunately Kettle spotted her too and rushed out to chase her away so I don't expect she'll be back 😞

Hopefully she ran fast enough to avoid any trouble.

She's gorgeous!
She's very like our cat McVicar who died in 2020.

Allergictoironing · 02/09/2025 17:56

Hmm, you sure Kettle isn't gay? Because if I were a male cat I wouldn't be chasing that pretty little kitty away!

Pianoaholic · 02/09/2025 18:09

Yes, she is very pretty.
Herbie has a tortoishell friend, the one he went burgling with the other night! (dog food). She has more white on though.

Esgaroth · 02/09/2025 18:10

He hates pretty female cats and big handsome male cats with an equal passion 😄

Anyone trying to come into his garden can get lost!

Usually he doesn't see them, though, because he's not awake. Napping is his true passion in life.

Have any of your other cats shown any interest?

RumNotRun · 02/09/2025 22:29

@Pianoaholic Ghostie, Fred, and Raven have all taken turns sitting on it, but I turned it off when Frank finished playing so they haven't seen it moving yet.

Jeez, it moves?

I must resist the temptation to buy one to see what it does.

It'll just end up on the "cat toys I wasted good money on" pile.

Sybil is having her morning lickelix. Didn't even get a chance to put it on the floor for her this morning.
