I commend the Saki short story Tobermory.
It really is just as well that they can't talk 🤣
Link to the short story below for anyone interested.

On my DS's 60th birthday she was given an old ex library copy of Tobermory by her Librarian friend who knew of her cat obsession 🐈

Talking of cats in books, did anyone else ever read Jenny and the Cat Club. It was by Esther Averill and there were a few books I think.
Really lovely book, especially if you love cats!

Just looked, I know someone who’d absolutely love that! Thanks @Pianoaholic.

Glad the recommendation was useful!

We have two more NMHCs who hang around. These are proper Greek feral cats though who don’t much like people (but have learned that they sometimes drop food). We are still getting regular visits from the tabby and white NMHC (whom the kids have named Olive as she always appears out of the olive groves) who is quite different and very people-focused. She comes to see us every morning and wants a head rub.

We reckon the big grey and white one might be Olive’s mother as they seem to hang out together a lot.

Sensible cat (or possibly sensible neighbour?).

Good boy, Linney.

Apparently the plan for tonight is that Kitty loafs & I entertain her by playing with her ball toy.

I’ve been looking after a neighbour’s cat, Roxie, while they were on holiday. Roxie’s favourite game is Fetch, but not in the dog sense. She sits at the top of the stairs, human throws her springs down the stairs, she runs down after them & waits for the human to retrieve them so she can chase them again.

Maybe Kitty’s been picking up tips.

I added a photo but it’s still under review. Can someone else post a pic & see if it appears?

Breadcat24 · 20/08/2025 19:38

Good luck on fetch

Oh ha! DH plays this exact game with Mini Pollock. He keeps a stash of springs at the top of the stairs but I keep telling DH it's going to end in tears (ours) when we end up stepping on them and go crashing down!

Or possibly we shut the windows and locked the door when he popped in at 9pm.

That helps too 🤣

RumNotRun · 20/08/2025 21:57

Toad used to play fetch, the proper way, and bring his spring or little toy back to me. Sadly he now has realised he's a cat so he'll run after the spring but not bring it back.

Frederick had a Very Brave Day yesterday. My friend came over to do some work in my kitchen. At first Fred hid, as usual, but then after a while he crept into the kitchen to eat, then sat and watched my friend working. Such a brave boy!

EmpressaurusKitty · 21/08/2025 06:15

Well done Fred!

Kitty’s original foster mum is dropping in today, the one who looked after her when she was pregnant & until most of her kittens were adopted. It’s been over a year since they’ve seen each other so we’re hoping Kitty will remember her.

Allergictoironing · 21/08/2025 06:39

Good luck, hope she remembers her foster mum.

Girlcat had her MoT and jabs yesterday - what a difference to Tobias! I saw her lounging in her doughnut on their bed so just scooped her up & carried her downstairs to the crate with a small amount of struggling. At the vets she stayed in the crate until the vet put her on the scales then stayed there until we went to put her back into the crate & she crawled in herself.

Not even a squeak having her jabs. She has a very minor ear infection and though she looked a bit uncertain when the vet squirted liquid in her ear she thoroughly enjoyed the massaging of the ear & base to get it in well and was rather disappointed when the vet stopped cleaning any excess away with cotton wool.

On coming home she was demanding a reward & fusses within 15 minutes.

EmpressaurusKitty · 21/08/2025 06:42

Good for Girlcat!!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 21/08/2025 06:50

Oh Girlcat, you're a star.
She sounds like Linney.
Easy-going and good-natured.

OP posts:
HumanToCatBeasties · 21/08/2025 08:08

Girl cat sounds a bit like Boris, only he makes himself too comfortable at the vets. If I don't watch what he's doing he goes wondering all over her keyboard and then sprawls himself untidily on the exam table demanding to be fussed.

Allergictoironing · 21/08/2025 08:08

Oh she's definitely a superstar! Never bitten, never scratched intentionally, never hissed or growled at me and only heard her do that a couple of times when we were first integrating Tobias and that was just to tell him she was the boss.

Has the softest coat of velvet made of silk, even the boss vet where I go commented once on how soft she is, and he's a cat person who doesn't say that to other cats. Beautiful, with very rare colouring (smoke black charcoal tabby!).

OK so she's my cat so I would say that. Boycat was my soul cat, and Tobias is such a sweet boy when he isn't scared of something, but she is exceptional in her own way.
