Herbie nearly caused me to fall down the stairs the other day, by running ahead and I didn't see him!
How he doesn't get trodden on more, I don't know!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/07/2025 13:28

@Judystilldreamsofhorses

Please don't think you'll be reported for animal cruelty. That absolutely wouldn't happen. People who are actually cruel to animals don't bother taking them to the vet at all, and I'm sure Louie is fine. The noise cats make when suddenly frightened or hurt is dreadful, and I'm sure that everyone on this thread has heard it.

Anyway - Pa Broon and I have stood on all our cats over the years, but entirely accidentally and very infrequently (of course).

That's cats, isn't it? They're always in the effing way, Gizmo especially.

Gizmo is very, very aware of the time I cook dinner, and he attends the kitchen every evening, just in case a chicken is being cooked.

I cook at the same time that Pa Broon does the hoovering, and as Gizmo is scared of the hoover, he has a second reason for appearing in the kitchen.

I sometimes think it's a wonder that Gizmo is still in one piece.

He's called Ned and is a force of nature. We recently lost our cat to a sudden illness and badly needed a distraction. Which he certainly is 🤣

RumNotRun · 28/07/2025 06:31

@4catsaremylifeHe is adorable. Is he the fourth or do you need to change your username?

I live with my adult children who have cats too so he makes 4.

EmpressaurusKitty · 28/07/2025 16:42

My ex-fosters parents got back last night. Apparently they were missing them so decided to be a bit early. I can understand that.

J, who was always the sister with the most cattitude, honoured me with a nose-bump.

Hello! You’re right about the vet, and no-one could look at this fella and think he was neglected or ill-treated.

Anyway, he is absolutely fine - up on the shed roof, scaling the wall to go next door, and being a perfect nuisance while DP made risotto with the leftover chicken tonight. He’s eaten well (!), used the litter tray, and while we’re obviously still keeping an eye on him I don’t think we need to think about the vet.

Hopefully DP will stop wandering around the house looking at his phone now…

JaceLancs · 28/07/2025 22:33

Thank you @Pudmyboy he is such a snuggle puss
@Judystilldreamsofhorses hope your kitty is recovered now - I feel terrible if I tread on Finn as I’m not that svelte myself
Years ago I fully reversed over DPs Dcat in my car - without killing or broken bones but I was nearly as traumatised as the poor cat and had flashbacks for ages after

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/07/2025 00:14

@JaceLancs he’s all good, thank you. He gets fallen over a lot, especially at breakfast time as he’s prone to a very dramatic flump to the ground if we’re not fast enough. I’m usually the panicky one, so DP suggesting we might need to dash to out of hours really panicked me!

Blimey. No wonder they say that cats have nine lives.

When DD1 was 20, I drove over her foot in Tesco's car park. Not on purpose though.

Everyone needs a day off sometimes.

RumNotRun · 29/07/2025 20:58

Lex keeps hiding. I think he's cross because I used my pillow last night.

We had a nice wake up call at 2.30am. Herbie had a mouse in the house! (Dead, at least). We chased him out of the house where he sat proudly on the patio with it.
Today, there's no sign of it so I guess it was eaten.
Here's Herbie yesterday evening watching closely as DH ate a pot of creme caramel!

Breadcat24 · 30/07/2025 10:16

@Pianoaholic I hate those early morning mouse alarms🐁

Pianoaholic · 30/07/2025 10:20

I woke up and heard him doing a strange sounding miaow which I was suspicious about (correctly as it turned out!)

Breadcat24 · 30/07/2025 10:24

@Pianoaholic Oh yes the I've got my mouthful and I'm bringing you something awful and I'm very proud of myself Wrooowwwwwwl

Pianoaholic · 30/07/2025 10:40

Exactly that!😹

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/07/2025 12:08

Which does Herbie prefer, fresh mouse or creme caramel?

Esgaroth · 30/07/2025 12:37

Herbie must be very proud. I expect mousie was delicious.

I know it's not completely logical but although I don't like cats killing birds, I cheer them on against mice. The furry little bastards made our life a misery when they built a nest under our kitchen sink a few years ago.

He didn't get the chance to compare as DH was mean and didn't give him any!

And yet I've been offered dead mice quite often by Linney.
He's very generous like that.
