Names for ginger kittens - and more!

Yesterday this dear cat and her five kittens were bought to me for fostering. Mum is an unchipped stray who gave birth in a greenhouse six days ago. They all seem healthy, are feeding well and mum is calm and friendly.

I don't usually name my foster cats but as these will be with me for at least three months I feel like I should. We think the three gingers are male and the two tabbies (one very dark but still noticeable stripes) female - I like Clementine for mum but would love ideas for the babies. I'm also posting because I just wanted to share my happiness at this lovely job I've been given!

We had a ginger cat and we called him Ninja 😂 Ninja the ginger

Oh thank you everyone 🧡 It's such a treat having so many kittens, though I'm sure it's going to be really worrying sometimes - 5 x all the things that can go wrong.

I love Rufus. Also Marmaduke, but it seems too weighty a name for such a wee scrap. Also love Fred, Rowan and Ember. And Flame, but he might not thank me when he grows up. Pumpkin would be fab for any that are chubsters though they all seem the same size at the moment. One of the girls could be Tabitha. I'll wait until they open their eyes before deciding.

Of course they're all likely to be renamed when adopted, but three months feels like too long to leave them nameless.

Oh my heart - they are beautiful. We are looking for new kittens after our holiday in June, I am so kitten broody!

@AlltheFs kitten broodiness is a real thing and it's why I foster! It's usually a joy but can be sad too, my last foster cat lost four of her five kittens to cat flu, three before the came to me and one died whilst here. But the survivor, Rocky, thrived and is happily rehomed with his mum.

They are heartbreaking aren’t they.

We sadly lost all 3 of our cats close together less than 2 years ago. One was old and had heart failure. The other 2 died young, both run over. Ironically we lived in a very quiet village in a cul de sac so it was a huge shock. We have since moved to an even quieter spot as I couldn’t stand to live there any more and just been renovating, we have a 2 week holiday early June and then the new cat/kitten hunt will start. I can’t bring myself to look yet as we can’t take any on for another 7 weeks with us going away. But it is so hard!

We have a young child and whilst we would take adult cats from a rescue it is harder to find ones suitable for children, so it will likely be kittens. I am bursting at the seems, I’ve never been this long without a cat/s before and it’s horrid.

Well done on the fostering! Such a lovely thing to do.

@viques no to any royal names but absolutely yes to photo updates - I'm so looking forward to seeing them grow and develop their personalities. I'm trying not to bother them too much during this first couple of weeks but very soon will start handling and taking endless pics...
@Mumsnut this is a (slightly blurry) still from the video I took when they first arrived yesterday afternoon, and mum was enjoying a hearty meal nearby.

My ginger cat was called marmalade but we ended up just calling him gingy
