Names for ginger kittens - and more!

Yesterday this dear cat and her five kittens were bought to me for fostering. Mum is an unchipped stray who gave birth in a greenhouse six days ago. They all seem healthy, are feeding well and mum is calm and friendly.

I don't usually name my foster cats but as these will be with me for at least three months I feel like I should. We think the three gingers are male and the two tabbies (one very dark but still noticeable stripes) female - I like Clementine for mum but would love ideas for the babies. I'm also posting because I just wanted to share my happiness at this lovely job I've been given!

Haven't read the whole thread but you need Greenhouse related names surely?

So cute. I was going to say fred, George and ron for the boys. Love Hermione for one of the girls but can't think of another girl in Harry potter with dark brown hair. Unrelated tabby girl names I like are mog, treacle, malteaser, marmite.

Minerva after Professor McGonagall Grin she turns into a tabby cat so seems appropriate

We fostered a ginger and I called her Geri. I was quite sad that most people didn't understand why.
We have a foster cat in our spare room atm who's just given birth and she's horribly grumpy. Won't let us near her or the babies. I envy you your friendly mama.

@beguilingeyes hello fellow cat fosterer! This mum is unusually friendly, I'm more used to them being like yours when all I can do is provide what mum needs and keep a watch for any feeding problems or other health issues. Clementine would be happy for me to pick these babies up but, other than occasionally stroking them and checking their umbilical cords have fallen off cleanly, I'll leave that until they're two weeks old. So looking forward to their eyes opening soon, and all the cuteness ahead - though five kittens will be chaotic and I'll no doubt be relieved when the time comes for rehoming!

How long was your mum cat with you before she gave birth? How many kittens? Is all going well?

@DesolationRow only a week or so before birth, poor thing. There are four kittens and all looking good so far. They're all a gorgeous smoky gray colour.
The hardest part will be persuading my husband that we mustn't keep any.

I’ve had 3 ginger boys. One was a rescue when he was 8, he was Peter. Then we had Steven and Fernando together !

Where are you (roughly!) please OP? We've been after a dark ginger (marmalade) kitten since before covid but none of the rescues round us have ever admitted to having any.
