Sad cat alone

Up my lane is a house where a cat sits in the "garden" surrounded by rubbish, cat crates, litter. It's there every day, rain or shine. The "garden" is a shithole tbh.

Cat and I are friends. I've knocked on the house repeatedly, windows open etc - no reply.

Tonight the cat is coated in paint. I've picked him (?) up and carried him home. He's stuffing his face in the spare bedroom and my two resident cats are sniffing the door

Should I alert eg RSPA or g back to the house and remonstrate?

This cat is mangy, left out in the pissing rain, I swear it's been dumped.

I really hope It’s a good happy update 😻

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 06/09/2022 19:15

Here for the updates.

Thank you for caring for this lovely old boy OP ❤️

OnaBegonia · 06/09/2022 19:29

I wouldn't put him back to that miserable existence, keep
or find someone to adopt him.
Even here on MN!!

Myshitisreal · 06/09/2022 22:11

Here for the kitty update 😺

NoSquirrels · 06/09/2022 22:16

Oh! He looks like my dearly departed Old Boy. And he’s in a right state, isn’t he? Do update, OP. I bet someone wants a sweet old boy, even if you can’t keep him.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2022 22:23

I found a sad neglected cat a few months ago. A local rescue took him in, it turned out that he was terminally Ill. But he lived out his last two
Months eating fresh chicken and being spoilt rotten. Before dying peacefully and loved. Hopefully your cat will have a happy ending too.

ideasmirrour · 06/09/2022 22:26

Ah I hope there will be an update! ❤️

MumofSpud · 06/09/2022 22:39

On here for a (fingers crossed) happy update!

seafish · 07/09/2022 00:51

OP are you based in London? Cat looks awfully similar to a cat I 'adopted'. I took him to the vet to get checked out but he had a chip and they contacted the owners. I called every few days and was told he hadn't been picked up yet but they wouldn't let me foster him, eventually they told me to get lost due to GDPR.

HMSSophia · 07/09/2022 08:49

You asked for updates!

I had a friendly cat rescuer expert over last night who scanned him and he's not chipped. Her wisdom said his vile greasy matted back fur is from hiding under cars in the rain and it will need to be shaved off :( I have not told him this yet.

Not have I told him that he's off to the vets at 10 today for a health check. Obviously I'll be bringing him home no matter what.

His spirits are improving I think. He moved off the bed to sit under a chair for a few hours test. A pleasant change no doubt. His big boxer's face when I took up some Dreamies ... like a four year old on Christmas morning. And he's shitting for Britain. Beautifully slap centre in the litter tray - but not covered by so much as one pellet. No sir. This boy cares not who knows his business.

I wondered when it was storming so badly here last couple of nights if he was recalling his nights of suffering in pestilential rain and if he perhaps felt glad at having a John Lewis mattress under his body and a bought-and -almost-paid-for roof over his head (and some rather battered cat toys littering the floor). But he's a cat, so no.

My two are curious about the room - and the stink - but in a "who there? when go?" way, rather than a "we in, we kill" way.

Lovely update OP I'm pleased your cats might be willing to accept a new friend. Hope the vet trip goes well

OnaBegonia · 07/09/2022 09:06

Is a name required for your new cat?

MermaidEyes · 07/09/2022 09:08

I'm laughing at the update! Hope all goes well at the vets. Looks like you might have another mouth to feed from now on 😉

HMSSophia · 07/09/2022 09:11

I'm not in London, but about 30 miles north in Herts/Beds/Cambs direction

Names. I was toying with Brutus or Pompey as there is something Roman about him, then I thought old man = Albert or Percy (soon to be coming to pre-schools near you, doubtless), then I thought Old man + fish + suffering adds up to Ahab. But nah. Fancy calling that at night? Might sound like you're being horribly racist.

So at the moment his name is a mystery to me. He might tell me later.

So happy Blush

OnaBegonia · 07/09/2022 09:21

Moses; wise and seen it all 🤣

CatChant · 07/09/2022 09:21

Lovely to hear he’s relaxing with you and enjoying his Dreamies. Hope the visit to the vet goes well.
He is lucky to have you, OP.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 07/09/2022 09:40

Think I have something in my eye op....

LazyJayne · 07/09/2022 09:42

Thanks for the update OP! :) hope the vet visit goes well, let us know!

Albert (Bertie) is a name for a distinguished yet weathered old gentleman such as he. I would also be tempted by Ol’ Mr Puss/Sir Catalot.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 07/09/2022 09:43

I think that due to him enduring so much hardship and such a long life he should have a proper name.

I want to call him Marlon Brando. I would be insisting the vets use that full name too.

Leafy3 · 07/09/2022 09:44

In my head, he's Fish :D

Bestcatmum · 07/09/2022 10:45

OMG that cat is absolutely gorgeous, I'd keep him definitely.

HMSSophia · 07/09/2022 10:45

Stand by for shock horror ... he's a girl!

Vet said a) body of a 13 year old, teeth of a 4 year old. No muscle tone and weakness means she's not groomed because she can't get her body in the necessary posture. I'm to tease out the frankly felted lumps slowly by hand over the weeks.

She raged against the cat carrier then was good as gold in the vets. Came home (sob) and she immediately went to her food bowl. So all is well.

I think she may be Scarlet as in Scarlet O'Hara, a really survivor who turned her hand to anything necessary to survive (without wanting to say that character was "good" socially, obv she was not). Scarlottie for short. So to speak.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2022 10:48

So, you have a third cat then...?

sunshinesupermum · 07/09/2022 10:50

Scarlet sounds a lovely name for your new/old girl!
