Sad cat alone

Up my lane is a house where a cat sits in the "garden" surrounded by rubbish, cat crates, litter. It's there every day, rain or shine. The "garden" is a shithole tbh.

Cat and I are friends. I've knocked on the house repeatedly, windows open etc - no reply.

Tonight the cat is coated in paint. I've picked him (?) up and carried him home. He's stuffing his face in the spare bedroom and my two resident cats are sniffing the door

Should I alert eg RSPA or g back to the house and remonstrate?

This cat is mangy, left out in the pissing rain, I swear it's been dumped.

Oh poor boy, thank you for caring about him.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 04/09/2022 21:21

Can you give him an outdoor shelter for overnights if your dcats 2 won't share?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/09/2022 21:35

You may find that the three just ignore each other and live together happily. He seems such a stoic quiet boy, happy just to be warm, fed and safe. Probably very happy just to live a quiet life and not bother the other two in any way.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2022 08:26

If you are in the East Midlands, Mansfield cat rescue will take him on. They were fab when I found an abandoned cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2022 08:27

Take him to the vet and get him scanned for a chip. If he has no owner, then keep him.

EmeraldEagle · 05/09/2022 08:32

Please get him checked for a chip before you make any decisions, he might be lost & have a family out there looking for him

Leafy3 · 05/09/2022 13:11

This is a good point, with luck you'll be able to reunite him with a loving family!

HMSSophia · 05/09/2022 13:28

I've someone with a chip reader coming tomorrow - they are a cat rescue person.

He had cleared his food bowl, emptied the water bowl and used the litter tray when I went in this morning.

I gave him a catnip toy this morning which he appreciated. He miaows hello but v little purring.

His fur is awful. Lies in peaks, great matted wedges (he's a short hair). I brushed him and he liked the neck but squeaked at me as I moved down so I stopped.

I have a happy pair - boy from rescue (love of my life) and girl from kitten (beautiful and heart lifting) and I'm anxious about breaking their strong loving bond.

Ideally I'd like old boy not to live with us.

If the options are, give to RSPCA and he dies, or keep him, I'd keep him

But ideally I'd rehome him :(

Try and re home him if you can't - keep him !

Myshitisreal · 05/09/2022 13:36

Oh 😭 my heart hurts. Thank you for caring about old man Fish stealer cat 😺

BobaTeaPoops · 05/09/2022 13:41

Oh what a sweet old boy.

Thank you for caring for him. You're a good human.

Keep us updated.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 05/09/2022 13:46

I hesitate to go agaist the grain but is the cat really abandonned if it is always in the same garden? I think you need to at least make contact with the owners before you rehome their cat...

verdantverdure · 05/09/2022 14:02

Poor sad cat. I'd give up on them unless they post lost posters tbh. Your vet can check for a chip in case he's lost. Have you got any smaller cat rescues or Cat's Protection League near you that might help? You could maybe foster him until they get a new home for him? And he'd get a vet check once he was under the auspices of a cat rescue.

HMSSophia · 05/09/2022 14:04

@MotherOfCrocodiles absolutely! But ... if he does "belong" to the house of the garden he was in, they are bloody neglecting him horribly. He's a real state. And I've seen him sitting in the torrential rain without any cover - I walked past him going to the shops and he was still there a picture of misery when I walked back.
There is a broken cat crate, old tyres, piles of litter, weeds a foot high, in the garden. Once he's scanned tomorrow I'll have a clearer idea of what to do. Believe me, I haven't just snaffled someone's cat ... I've been aware of him for two months living there, hence my making friends with him sharing fish and chips with him

He's gorgeous, wish I could take him!

CatChant · 05/09/2022 14:42

He’s lovely, but he’s been allowed to get into an awful state, poor boy. I think you’re the best thing that’s happened to him in a long time, OP.

Cheeseandlobster · 05/09/2022 14:55

Poor little love. He needs cuddles, fish and warmth

Crazycatstory · 05/09/2022 15:01

You don’t live in Essex do you op? (Well done for making friends with him).

Moonface123 · 05/09/2022 15:02

He will probably settle in well re your other cats, they won' t see him as a threat if elderly. l have intergrated many cats sucessfully over the years, young and old and its never affected the bond between my other cats.

TwoMonthsOff · 05/09/2022 18:21

He is a lovely cat, he just needs a load of TLC - is he a he OP ? Look at him pic 2 ❤️
and for the poster saying reunite - sorry but it doesn’t look to me as though the ‘owners’ (aka neglecters) should be allowed any where near him again (or any other animal) as most people I know who have cats they don’t look like that

caringcarer · 05/09/2022 19:37

Cats already established in a home will often accept an elderly cat or new kittens. They just have issue with a competitive cat who wants to be top cat in house. Sounds like this poor old boy just wants food, shelter and a bit of love. Just brush him a little bit each day he will soon look better. Flea him and worm him OP as you don't want fleas in your home. Please try to keep him if your other 2 cats allow it. Have you got an outdoor shed or garage he could sleep in otherwise. Sounds like this old boy has made a good friend in you.

LazyJayne · 05/09/2022 22:06

I’m so invested in this cat, please keep us updated OP

Plump82 · 06/09/2022 18:02

Any update?

verdantverdure · 06/09/2022 19:06

I have come back to see if there's been any update and look at the pictures again.
