My partner and I want a dog and a cat, me more so cat, and him more dog. I’ve finally made him realise a cat is the sensible first choice with our lives right now. We’ve signed up with the local rescues, looking for a young adult cat and I am so fucking excited. I’ve owned cats before but from a young child, anything I should get I haven’t thought about? Can I see your cats just to get me more excited? I’m genuinely over the moon

Aloysius, with the nickname Louis?

He is a very handsome fellow! Ginger cats are the absolute best. He's mine. He's about 15 years old, and a proper grumpy old man and very vocal but we love him to bits. He's been a real lifesaver during lockdown, especially for DS

@Awwlookatmybabyspider
We wanted to give an adult a chance, kittens are always in demand. Also with an adult you know his personality, kittens are unpredictable!

I second the PP who suggested a top entry tree tray. I had a petmate one from zooplus and it was brilliant. Though I had to get rid of it because Cheddar didn't get it. Hmm
Kittens are cute but overrated. Adult cats are much better

This is Jazzy - one of our two. You can blow raspberries on his belly and earlier I totally wasn't holding him like a baby & rocking in my chair. Nope. No siree Bob.

This is his bruv, Changes (after the David Bowie song). Soooooooo chilled.

I love changes! And when you want him you can sing ch ch ch ch like you would pss pss pss. Brilliant!

@FelicityBeedle - exactly! That's why we chose it (I said it as a joke & DH loved it). He does respond to the ch ch ch as well Grin

😍 He is just gorgeous!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/02/2021 14:48

As gorgeous as kittens are I suppose you know what you're getting with an older cat.

FelicityBeedle · 26/02/2021 16:20

@TheLongRider you win an imaginary prize! He is now called Ulysses! Uli for short!

GuppytheCat · 26/02/2021 16:27

If he's being sick, check with the rescue whether he's due a worming tablet. They should have done it before you got him, but it might have been missed.

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 16:31

Ulysses is a brilliant name for him. He has come home after many years of wandering... (well if he was an intact Tom until recently I'm guessing he got around).

We found a ginger kitten on a tow path last year on holiday and obviously called him Nemo!

Roystonv · 26/02/2021 16:38

Our ginger neutered tom chose us, he climbed into Dh's duffel coat hood and snuggled down so of course he came home with us. He was a sweetie and was with us many years.

FelicityBeedle · 27/02/2021 19:45

He’s settling in very well, he has a single black smudge on his cheek and one on each inner ear tip that just make me want to worship him more. He’s only using the litter tray at night, is that normal? Last cat was outdoor

Cats are very vulnerable when they do what they do in a litter tray, so it's understandable that it's the last thing they will do when people are around. My pair only poo once a day each, and pee the same amount but at a different time to pooing, and I don't think I saw either of them "go" for months after they came home.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/02/2021 20:29

Isn't that black splodge just dirt?

FelicityBeedle · 27/02/2021 21:08

I thought it was dirt too, but it seems to be an errant patch of black fur. After much rubbing it and pissing him off 😂

OP posts:
FelicityBeedle · 27/02/2021 21:11

That’s good to know, he didn’t poo last night but he didn’t eat much yesterday either so I’m not too surprised. He’s less needy today, yesterday we wouldn’t let you stop fussing over him, now he accepts you need to go

minipie · 27/02/2021 21:22

My ginger and white cat has one rogue black splodge too!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2021 09:18

How is he getting on?

FelicityBeedle · 04/03/2021 00:09

He’s the friendliest most beautiful lad you’ve ever imagined. Quite vocal but only when you’re interacting with him, behaved wonderfully at his micro chipping appointment. Razor claws but learning to keep them tucked away and if you’re sat down he leaps straight to your lap. He’s just tolerated me trimming his toe bean fur for 10 minutes with no complaint

I’m finally going to get a cat!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2021 09:10

Aww that's great news. He might let you trim his claws.
