I’m finally going to get a cat!

My partner and I want a dog and a cat, me more so cat, and him more dog. I’ve finally made him realise a cat is the sensible first choice with our lives right now. We’ve signed up with the local rescues, looking for a young adult cat and I am so fucking excited. I’ve owned cats before but from a young child, anything I should get I haven’t thought about? Can I see your cats just to get me more excited? I’m genuinely over the moon

It will happen.

FelicityBeedle · 23/02/2021 20:25

Bernard is beautiful, I love grey cats (grew up with one). I’m just impatient now, I know I’ll get a cat and will love them but I want one now! I feel like stamping my foot a la verruca salt

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea please can I see a photo of your cat? He sounds amazing!

chipshopElvis · 24/02/2021 19:15

Any luck yet OP? We are having 6 month old kittens from the RSPCA but I emailed them within a couple of hours of the ad going up on the site and had been (obsessivley) stalking all the shelters near us for a while. Don't give up.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 24/02/2021 20:03

You’ll find the right cat(s) OP. Here’s my fella who I adopted 8 years ago when his previous owners decided he was too boring and a dog would be better. Their loss was our gain. He makes me smile everyday, even though he can be a grump at times. He hates everyone except me 😁

I’m finally going to get a cat!

We’re going to visit a cat at a one woman shelter tomorrow, he’s ginger and white and very pretty ex stray. So less desirable than the others we’ve tried for maybe. The shelter is a little way away, so just in case we bought a carrier today, as due to covid it’ll probably be a one trip meet and take home if he likes us. So fingers crossed for me again.

Poor boy, they get chucked out when their not cute kittens anymore or not neutered and they wander off but get lost.

Ginger boys are cuddly and very friendly.

chipshopElvis · 25/02/2021 08:02

Ooh fingers crossed he is the one for you!

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 09:26

On our way there now!

Good luck, if successful a photo is mandatory Grin

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 10:31

We’ve got him! I’ll post a photo as soon as we get home. I’m over the moon!

Oh congratulations. Welcome to serfdom! 😃

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/02/2021 10:45

Brilliant news, delighted for you OP. Looking forward to updates.

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 12:41

This is the best photo I can get, it’s a still from a video. He’s out now, and hiding under the sofa poor scared chap. He’s also quite smelly

Was he recently neutered? The hormones take a while to go away, he looks like he’s got cheek pouches too which they don’t have when you neuter early.

He should wash himself when he’s feeling more relaxed. Although some males see washing one paw as enough primping. I had to bath our white Persian when the paws started to look dip dyed.

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 13:20

Yeah he’s 5 and only neutered a week or so ago

He's lovely OP!!! We adopted an older tom who got neutered later in life, all fine but he does have the occasional hump-fest with his blanket Blush

Plump82 · 25/02/2021 13:41

Aww his wee pink nose. Does he have a name or are you naming him. Congrats on becoming a cat slave!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/02/2021 13:42

Very handsome chap OP. Give him space and I suspect he'll gain confidence take over quite quickly. Grin

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 13:54

He had a name from the rescue, but he was stray so it’s only recent. We’re currently arguing over names as you do

minipie · 25/02/2021 13:59

Ah ginger and white lovely!

We have a ginger and white rescue too but a girl. She is awesome - had DH (previously cat sceptic) eating out of her paws in no time.

He will make friends with all your neighbours by the way, gingers are notoriously friendly Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/02/2021 13:59

I’ve seen people on here have more “heated discussions” over naming cats than naming their children.

The testosterone takes 3 weeks or so to go. Have you got any dried catnip? If you sprinkle it on the floor they roll over in it. He’s probably never had catnip.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/02/2021 14:04

He's gorgeous! He looks like he should be called Potato.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/02/2021 14:05

Maybe get some dry cat shampoo. Cheddar was a bit softy when she arrived. She soon smelt of raspberry lemonade. Hmm

TicTac80 · 25/02/2021 14:12

Awww he's lovely! I have a 7month old calico called Arya (the Assyrian word for lion)...and she's nuts. It's payday this week, and I've just treated her to a new catnip toy. She went on a crazy for about half an hour and is now asleep on the sofa. I LOVE cats :D
