My partner and I want a dog and a cat, me more so cat, and him more dog. I’ve finally made him realise a cat is the sensible first choice with our lives right now. We’ve signed up with the local rescues, looking for a young adult cat and I am so fucking excited. I’ve owned cats before but from a young child, anything I should get I haven’t thought about? Can I see your cats just to get me more excited? I’m genuinely over the moon

Oh well done OP! You'll never wear black clothes again, there will always be fine white hairs stuck to your clothes.

IrenetheQuaint · 25/02/2021 20:19

I got a new rescue cat on Sunday - she hid for 48 hours but is now feeling much more at home. I spent ages dithering over a name for her but in practice find myself addressing her as Miss Furry Features Hmm

I’m finally going to get a cat!

I agree, I love Frances for him but that’s my uni tutors name and I don’t like her much! Maybe derek

I think he looks like a Toby.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 25/02/2021 21:08

How's he settling in, OP?

carolinesbaby · 25/02/2021 21:28

He's gorgeous. I think I'd call him Gary. My cats all have 'people' names ending in 'ee' sounds.

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 21:49

Pretty well! He was sick earlier but seems fine now, had a hide behind a chair for a bit but he’s out now

I’m finally going to get a cat!

He's lovely OP. My cat took weeks to feel comfortable around me. You've done well I think.

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 21:52

He has the sharpest claws thoigh!

He looks so at home! It'll probably take him a bit of time to really trust you and realise that he has a proper home.

I agree that you'll end up adding the "ee" sound to the end of most names. My boy is Walter and I often call him Walty.

FelicityBeedle · 25/02/2021 22:07

I love poncy names, so really I want a posh boys name with a shortening. I still want Sebastian/Seb/Sebby but OH is being difficult. Says this is a big several day decision

He looks very smug! I think he's a Dexter.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 25/02/2021 22:18

Rupert, after Rupert Penry Jones (one of my favourite ginge's)

And Rupert Grint! Rupey, I love it. I love Sebastian too.

iklboo · 25/02/2021 23:34

Theodore / Teddy?

thatonesmine · 26/02/2021 00:20

He's very handsome, I'm madly envious, would love a cat but DH doesn't like them. Have you considered Anthony? It's classic and can be shortened.

chipshopElvis · 26/02/2021 06:32

He's gorgeous! What a fine fellow. Well done OP!

1starwars2 · 26/02/2021 07:13

My only male childhood cat was called Cassius.
Your new housemate is gorgeous OP.

Mabelface · 26/02/2021 07:47

Edward! Here's my rescue Wilson. He was 11 months when he chose us very vocally. He's 3 now and a real cuddle monster.

I’m finally going to get a cat!

I live Sebastian/Seb as him his name, it really suits him. hope he is settling in well today and enjoying his new life of luxury.

FelicityBeedle · 26/02/2021 12:06

Settling in well! Absolutely attention whore, but I can’t say I mind! He was sick yesterday and was again last night, I’m guessing nerves and food change poor thing. And he needs a bigger litter tray no doubt... But ultimately he seems to be a very happy boy

I heartily recommend a top entry litter box - since we got one there has been so much less litter kicked out onto the floor.

We have this one:

Iris Top Entry Litter Box

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 13:25

He's probably so attention seeking because he wants reassuring that he's really at home. Seb is a great name for him.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/02/2021 13:29

Congratulations. Wouldn't you want a kitten
