Older boy licking nipple

For the last week or so my 16 year old boy has been licking his nipple. I keep catching him and telling him to stop, which he does, but then catch him again later (2-3 times a day so it's not constant). He's going bald around it, but nipple doesn't look red/weepy/bloody.

He did it for a while a couple of years ago and nipple became very red and inflamed, and then he stopped and it got better.

Have wondered if he's stressed, but can't think of anything that could be causing it, although we did get a new washing machine a few days ago so could be the stress of that? He's generally very chilled. He has been a bit quieter the last couple of days

Anyone had similar/any ideas why he could be doing it, or any tips on something which may calm him?

Oh well at least this post has made parents of teenagers across mumsnet feel - however briefly - that at least their darling son isn’t as mental as the one licking his nipples and stressing over a new washing machine.

Ahhhh I love this so funny.. I was a bit disturbed by it all but trying to find some constructive reasoning for why an adolescent human was licking his nipple.. especially when it wasn’t the first time haha! So funny!!!!!

The idea of hairy boys licking their chest bald made me laugh more than it should!

It sounds like he might need reassuring, mine sucks his tail when he's angsty - love bombing + bribes help.

Many years ago I knew a bloke who said he could lick his......oh you don't want to know about that, TMI.

Returning to the topic (although I have also enjoyed the mix up!), given his age, I wouldn't assume it is stress caused by the washing machine but would take him to the vet for a checkup. When my old cat started overgrooming his stomach it was the first sign of kidney problems. Keep an eye on his litter tray habits if you can to see if there are any signs of straining/distress.

If the vet rules out medical causes, then I agree Feliway is good for stress. I would also recommend a natural supplement called Zyklene (more info if you google it) which you can sprinkle on their food. I use it for my highly strung cat before stressful situations like travel etc. and think it helps calm her. Also look at his environment - does he have enough cosy spots? In particular high up cosy spots are important (and make sure he can still access them given his age).That might help if he's feeling threatened by the washing machine. Good luck!

@lockout198991 Thank you! He has had previous problems with cystitis and is now on a bladder/kidney food and Cystease supplements. No problems since then thank god! Miracle supplements! So luckily I have some experience with looking out for wee related problems, and he seems fine from that point of view but will keep a close eye.

Hmmm we have reconfigured the living room slightly so a couple of his usual spots are slightly different but still easily accessible. Will have a look at Zyklene Smile maybe the reconfiguration AND a new washing machine in the same week is just too much to cope with....!

No nip licking this evening that I've seen!
