HELP!! Being held to ransom by a stray cat

this sounds ridiculous but I don't know what to do. I'll start off by saying I have lived with cats on and off for last 30 years so am experienced cat wrangler Grin

I have two cats who mostly stay indoors but like a bit sniff about every day in our garden . The last few weeks have seen a small entire tom visiting which they didn't like one bit- lots of stands offs in the garden. After lots of enquiries and he wasn't claimed we trapped him & got him neutered. Have done this many times over the years with strays.

Kept him in shed overnight to recover and after a feed took him to a farm several miles away- know the people there and they are willing to let ferals & strays live in barn etc

10 days later he turns up at the back door again!!!! However he is becoming increasingly aggressive and our cats are frightened to go out. They aren't the only ones as he also goes for me each time I'm out and has made a mess of my legs as he launches himself at me clawing away. My legs are terrible this morning as even with jeans on he's shredded them! Bloody hurt I can tell you

We still have the trap but even though he's been obviously very hungry he won't go inside.
He's there all the time

Surely if he goes in and doesn't want to get out, all you'll have to do is go outside and Darth Maul will follow to attempt to do justice to his name?

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2021 14:03

Well he’s not going anywhere so you may as well have a crack at socialising him. You care about him a little bit to have neutered him, provided alternative care, a special bed and food twice a day.

It’s very odd he’s so aggressive, our feral was scared stiff of us and just ran off all the time.

Beamur · 04/01/2021 14:10

That level of aggression is unusual. Was it post operative?
I think they get given something to wake them up from anaesthesia. My kittens were demented after being spayed.

Confusedcatlady1 · 04/01/2021 14:12

That’s good news that you have ABs to take. Please keep an eye on the wound though because cat bites can be serious (I say this having had plastic surgery last year on a wound inflicted by my cat). I hope you are feeling better today and please take care of yourself. That cat certainly has a strange way of showing his appreciation! Personally I wouldn’t let him in the house until his attacks have stopped because he could do a lot of damage to you and your resident cats.

SciFiScream · 04/01/2021 14:23

He's so handsome. Aggression can be a sign of pain in cats can't it? Could trap him and get him checked out by a vet.

You've done so much already I think -could you do more?

Maybe you will be able to adopt him in time. He is so handsome.

Gatekeeper · 04/01/2021 14:23

@Beamur first bash was pre op and second post, long after anaesthetic had worn off. Can cats be psychopaths?

Beamur · 04/01/2021 14:37

Yup. Just psychosis I think. It's a lovely thing you're doing, I just hope he starts to appreciate it.

TodgerStrunk · 04/01/2021 14:39

How fond were you of your house?
Time to move, me thinks.
More than 14 miles away though Grin

Gatekeeper · 04/01/2021 14:43

I am looking at suits of armour on ebay

Kevlar over trousers?

Confusedcatlady1 · 04/01/2021 17:46

Perhaps you can learn to walk on stilts?

Dodie66 · 04/01/2021 20:12

CrotchBurn · 04/01/2021 20:20

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2021 21:02

How is Rambo tonight?.

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/01/2021 21:18

Hmmmmm. He just hates you then?

notapizzaeater · 04/01/2021 21:23

Sorry, it made me laugh. He's def got a love hate relationship with you !

SixesAndEights · 04/01/2021 21:26

My little fellow did that after I'd caught him and had him neutered. I ended up terrified of him. He used to lunge at me and sink teeth and claws into my calves. I put it down to a combination of hunger and his hormones being all over the place for a while after his op.

I fed him more, worked out what he needed to eat and fed him that, and he calmed down a bit. His aggression generally has lessened over the last year. Now he's a big softie and you wouldn't know he was a stray once.

If he's waiting at the window he may be hungry. Poor fellow if he's been on the streets for a while. He obviously feels a connection with you.

Gatekeeper · 04/01/2021 21:58

He gets fed twice a day and decent portions at that. Swine got some roast beef..lovely it was, and this is how he said thanks. Legs intact from my last sortee in the garden thanks to the rubber broom but Percy my younger cat nipped out the same time and got the stuffing knocked out of him Sad. He is feeling very sorry for himself with his nose and lip clawed and ear bitten
Oh dear...if it is a temporary thing I hope it abates soon as this is awful

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2021 22:09

Poor Percy. He didn’t need that.

Causes of aggression are usually hunger, tiredness, illness, pain. Maybe he needs more food? Would a tinned food work out cheaper for him? But split into 3 meals. I’d send the husband out to do it though.

Gatekeeper · 04/01/2021 22:24

Its only me he does it to even though dd and dh feed him as well. He gets half a tin of Sainsburys own brand morning and other half evening plus what our two have left

Could your vet deliver sedatives by drone?

Kittekats · 06/01/2021 08:41

Blimey, that sounds awful. Is he still going at you?

SoupDragon · 06/01/2021 08:48

I found this in my photo reel last night...
