HELP!! Being held to ransom by a stray cat

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2021 10:34

this sounds ridiculous but I don't know what to do. I'll start off by saying I have lived with cats on and off for last 30 years so am experienced cat wrangler Grin

I have two cats who mostly stay indoors but like a bit sniff about every day in our garden . The last few weeks have seen a small entire tom visiting which they didn't like one bit- lots of stands offs in the garden. After lots of enquiries and he wasn't claimed we trapped him & got him neutered. Have done this many times over the years with strays.

Kept him in shed overnight to recover and after a feed took him to a farm several miles away- know the people there and they are willing to let ferals & strays live in barn etc

10 days later he turns up at the back door again!!!! However he is becoming increasingly aggressive and our cats are frightened to go out. They aren't the only ones as he also goes for me each time I'm out and has made a mess of my legs as he launches himself at me clawing away. My legs are terrible this morning as even with jeans on he's shredded them! Bloody hurt I can tell you

We still have the trap but even though he's been obviously very hungry he won't go inside.
He's there all the time

Did you guys hear about the man who became a target for a vengeful crow? The crow didnt have a problem with anyone else in the family and it got so bad he couldn't leave his house without a helmet

TodgerStrunk · 06/01/2021 13:35

And I guess the man had done nothing to upset the crow?

@Gatekeeper has captured, neutered and dumped this monster 14 miles away. He's walked all the way back to get his revenge. Perhaps you should call him Inigo Montoya. You killed his testicles. Prepare to die!

You lot are rotters Grin
I face death each time I go to the woodstore/garage but oh no...have your laughs. If it wasnt for Mr Rubber Broom I would be a pile of cheap looking mince...the 25% fat one!

@TodgerStrunk
Actually yes he had by mistake! This showed that crows are actually able to use facial recognition

TodgerStrunk · 06/01/2021 14:20

The only practical thing I can suggest is to ensure someone else who he doesn't attack is the one who goes out to collect whatever you need from outside. You should be the only one to feed him - and feed him lots of nice food as well as more food. He might not attack you if he associates you with food rather than the broom-wielding bollock cutter. And he might be hungry - just one can amd no biscuits might not be enough for a growing boy - who has also worked up an appetite walking all that way. Revenge is thirsty work after all Grin

CrotchBurn · 06/01/2021 14:20

Maybe hes trying to tell you something OP. Something important

@TodgerStrunk has made a good point there and is definitely worth giving a go.

Op, I think between this thread and @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats tales of TC you are keeping a lot of us entertained, it just means you and Grumpy have to endure maulings at your own expense for the Litter Tray readers to have a good chuckle 😜

Just shuffled out in dhs muck boots and gave him a whole tin. "Do not savage me" I said, "I come bearing gifts ". Scoffed the lot and then buggered back to his gaff. I remain intact but the muck boots will remain a fixture. Those anti biotics are horrible and have given me a right gippy tum. Dont wish to repeat it

I’m having a really creepy case of deja vu...cos I swear I’ve read this before

Theunamedcat · 06/01/2021 16:45

He needs happy pills could he have post op pain or infection?

TheGonnagle · 06/01/2021 16:55

More pictures of his evil regal self please!

TodgerStrunk · 06/01/2021 17:21

OK, you have completed Step 1: More PPE and Step 2: More food.

Step 20 = Inigo, inside, on your lap, purring. You're almost there!

We used to have a cat that would rugby tackle your leg if you walked up the stairs. He didn't really do it any other time though he did bite if you weren't careful and knew the signs when to leave him alone. Most of the time he was a big softy but we had to tell visitors not to go near or touch him as he was very unpredictable.

Now we have a cat who terrorises ours, has cost me a fortune in antibiotics for ours due to bites from him and who spends many, many hours a day in our garden and demands to be fed and tries to get into the house at every opportunity. I did trap him a few years ago and took him to the vet but he has a home, is called Yoda and is neutered and chipped. They rang the owners (from the chip) but didn't tell me where they lived just that it was somewhere near here. I keep thinking I will put a paper collar on him as he is looking very thin and a few weeks ago had a worm climbing up his tail Envy It can't be normal how much time he spends camped outside here (also mainly on the woodpile) and not warm at home!

@Soubriquet some other poor sod has gone through this?

Gatekeeper · 06/01/2021 19:04

I've rehomed stray and ferals over the years, the most notable one was Heidi whose story was much lauded on here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3094554-can-anyone-give-this-sweet-little-girl-a-new-home

Murinae · 06/01/2021 19:28

How’s Heidi doing now? I vaguely remember she was ill or maybe that was another thread

Soubriquet · 06/01/2021 19:40
@Soubriquet some other poor sod has gone through this?
Well...either I’ve dreamed it or yes!

ginghamstarfish · 06/01/2021 19:40

Oh I remember the Heidi story, was that where another kind MNetter drove a long way to collect her and give her a new home? You sound very patient and kind OP, hope you will be able to resolve this!

EachandEveryone · 06/01/2021 19:53

I thought it was you. Good luck and more photos please!

ThePawtriarchy · 06/01/2021 20:04

Our old cat was like this and got worse throughout his life. Redirected aggression was the closest behaviour that seemed to match it. He would seek us out to attack unprovoked, it was actually scary and upsetting. It seemed as though he was angry about lack of attention but would also attack if you gave him the attention. Anyway, not helpful I know. The vet did suggest medication but not sure whether that’s possible when you can’t trap him at the moment and then obviously the ongoing issue of giving it and not having other animals accidentally get it, if via food.

Gatekeeper · 19/01/2021 20:41

Evening all

Several weeks on and he's still here. His favourite pastime is staring in the patio window...he's been here all through the heavy snow we had. We feed him 4 times a day and he gets some calming down treats that have valerian in. Here he is sitting on my husband's knee in his man shed. Still a little bit bitey but not as bad...not anywhere as bad
