I've taken in a cat who has been living in a box on a doorstep for at least a few months. I wasn't too concerned when it was warmer but have been making enquiries since the cold weather and it has become clear that she has inadequate care and nowhere else to go.

Neighbours say she was left behind when previous owners moved, and she has definitely been spending all night every night outside in a plastic cat carrier with a coat partially over it. So, i snuck up and shut her in the box while she was asleep, and now she's in my kitchen!

Taking her to the vets next week for defleaing, deworming and general checkup, and of course if she turns out to have a microchip then things might go differently, but I'll probably keep her if she doesn't and I need a name ready in that case to register her at the vets.

She is (at least in comparison to my last cat) brick shithouse shaped, has been witnessed killing rats, and wants massive physical rofl cuddles and fuss every time she sees me. This is every hour now she's in my kitchen, she's not bored yet.

Am considering Katniss since my DSD is obsessed with The Hunger Games, all other suggestions much appreciated please!

She looks incredibly fluffy and soft.

The first name that came to my mind was Martha, she looks like one.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 15/12/2018 19:55

Her fur is incredibly dense, like a badger hair shaving brush but softer, all over. Don't know yet if she likes belly rubs, i hope so!

I actually think pp suggestion of Martha is spot on. Although Patricia would have been fabulous

I love the name Katniss 😻

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 15/12/2018 20:13

I do like Martha, but it's the name given to the domestic servants in The Handmaids Tale, and i personally knew a domestic servant called Martha for real too (while living abroad), so the association is too strong for me.

I’m so glad you’ve taken her in you lovely person!

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 15/12/2018 20:14

Missy is v close to previous cat's name, so that's out really.

Am considering Ethel, after the sufferagette that my late mum wrote a book about.

Ophelia!

My lovely cat who died a few years ago looked a lot like her, and was called Ophelia, it really suits the fluffy look Smile

SoupDragon · 15/12/2018 20:19

Go with Katniss.
