What's your DCat up to today? (Thread 7!)

I wanted to reply to @EachandEveryone but thread number 6 is full! That cooling mat thing looks fab.

What is everyone's cat up to today?

Today I am 26 weeks pregnant and my cat Freya is communing with the baby. Mainly purring and gentle pawing in response to little kicks. I am hoping they'll be friends! Meanwhile Maisie is looking on disdainfully. She's in the huff because I tipped her out of the pregnancy dungarees, which she had commandeered as her personal nest.

What are your furry overlords all up to?

Actually, just thinking about it now, it's possibly quite telling how much the two girls are looked after by their brother.

Do you think he feels protective?

He opens doors for them, as I have described. He waits until they've had their bedtime wee in the litter trays before he has his. And he waits until they've finished eating before he tidies up whatever they have left uneaten.

Now I actually think about it, he's a very good boy, isn't he?

Want2beme · 27/03/2020 17:11

Oh yes, I recognise mine. I've got 3 and they all sound very different. One has a high pitched scream when she wants attention. The big lad has a dainty little cry and my other girl has a gorgeous wobbly meow.

I wish my big lad was as capable as yours is opening the door. He just launches himself at my doorsConfused

Buns aged 18 has become extraordinarily clingy. She knows something is wrong and she will not stop wailing until I rock her in my arms like a baby. This can go on for half an hour and if she wakes up suddenly and I am not in the room the wailing begins again and so does the rocking.
She is not a small cat so it's a feat of strength doing this.
There is nothing wrong with her, she's had her teeth done, radioactive iodine so her thyroid is fine again and a full check up.
It seems she is just extra needy at the moment.
When I am at work she has to be supplied with a small box with a cosy blanket in to make her feel secure, when I come home from work she dashes out of the box and greets me like I left her to starve for a week!!!
Cats know when the world is all wrong.

Want2beme · 30/03/2020 17:11

I think we're all wondering if pets are thinking that something's amiss at the moment. I work from home, so I think that mine are generally none the wiser re the current situation. They must be puzzled that so many people are invading their precious territory, uninvitedGrin

Hope Buns settles soonSmile

Sybil has had enough of self isolating so has escaped this morning by flying out of the kitchen window Grin.

The 3 of them are snoozing after sleeping all night. Here's the old man, snoring away.

I've watched how he does it from the closed side of the door.

He doesn't just leap up to grapple with the door handle! He has worked it all out.

He jumps up above the handle, not touching it on the way up!

And then he lands his front paws heavily on the handle on his way back down again.

Thus opening the door.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/04/2020 21:48

Do your cats know when you are going to bed?

When I turn off the lights in the living room and head for the kitchen, on the way to bed, my two girls visit the litter trays and have a wee. And then their brother has one when they've finished.

Like they're thinking "Better have a wee before bed so we won't need to get up in the night" .

I'm convinced cats understand far more than we give them credit for.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/04/2020 21:53

Just incidentally, their Mother hasn't taught them any of this!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/04/2020 21:59

Her litter tray habits are weird!

She spends all day outside, but actually waits to use the tray when she comes indoors. What's that all about?

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 10:38

Taken to snoozing with his head in the breeze.

I've only just started to let him in the room with the window open as he was standing at the door meowing as he had taken to sleeping in his old bed under my bed

Ernie!!!

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 10:50

We have the battle of bedtime in our house.

I switch off the computer, tv and sockets and as soon as Ern hears the click he will took his head under and pretend to be asleep. I've now taken to switching the light off and shutting in half of the doors so getting Ern out is the last thing

He will actually try and fight me to not get picked up and bought out. He's not averse to biting my shoulder or hair. Everyone else had absolved themselves if the responsibility.

I don't know what it's all about as he will then do his routine of coming upstairs having some water then going to bed

Occasionally he will take himself off to bed and had been known to come back down to fetch you if I've not followed him up

Haven't a clue what the getting antsy with being taken out the living room is as he's rarely fast off. OH didn't believe me till he saw it that he pretends to be asleep

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 11:10

Ern also doesn't realise just now but he has a rival fu his affections

DS has finally got his own cat, just before lockdown. So good company as he's on his own, though the cat is 9/10 months old and not nuetured. He was hoping to give the cat time to settle in then get him done

It sounds as though they adored each other already

Oldraver what a gorgeous lad. How lovely to have his company during lockdownSmile

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 16/04/2020 11:51

That's a beautiful boy, oldraver. He's going to be a big cat, isn't he? What a gorgeous face he has.

Oldraver · 16/04/2020 12:05

Yes he looks a sturdy lad but wont know tillI meet him.

He has a quite squished face, so dont know what kind of cat he is. He does have a Passport so has the been vaccinated as his former owner was Lithuanian.

DS says he very very placid which is probably good as an entire (for the time being). He was quite scared when he first arrived and is still a scared to be outside, but he's coming along and has claimed DS 's brand new armchair as his own

DS is mostly working form home and said the new colleague isnt helping much, though likes to watch DS. So he's restricted himself to a fuss every so often

TheLongRider · 17/04/2020 16:27

The good weather over here has started the night time cat shenanigans.

There's a large green area with clumps of trees and a mature horse chestnut in front of my house. There are at least half a dozen cats in the neighbouring houses. I have four, two elder statesmen, one three year old grumpy female and one young lad,18 months.

In the quiet evenings most of the neighbouring cats come out to play. There are multiple games of cat chess and lots of hiding in the long grass and pouncing on an unsuspecting victim. It's definitely play, there's no hissing and they run up to each other chirruping.

Last night a new cat was inducted into the gang. The black and white cat was being sniffed by my grey boy. Tabby young fella is looking for his cat friend who's behind me. Black cat is grumpy girl cat who came to see what the fuss was about.

After this the black and white cat joined in with the games. I watched them for about 20 minutes in the dying light. A bat was flittering about the chestnut tree too. It's a nice patch of suburban Dublin.

Dcat4 is just back from the vet as he had a long grass seed embedded in his eye. It's Good Friday where I live so the vet had to open the surgery specially for him Blush Fortunately he's a nice guy and only charged me the same price for the treatment as a normal day. Poor Kloppy is staggering round as the sedation is wearing off but at least his eye looks fine now Smile

Bloody cats! 😻
