Re-homing my beloved ZombieCats™

This is the thread I prayed I would never need to post. However...

I have terminal breast cancer and my prognosis is another few months if I'm lucky. I live alone with ZombieCatMaisie and ZombieCatTinkerbelle. They are 12 yo and 11yo.

Where do I begin to find them new homes? (They don't get along particularly well and would be happier apart.) Do I ask my vet? CPL? Local rescues?

I will check back periodically but I'm spending more time lying down (as that minimises my pain) than online these days.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sorry you are faced with this decision. Get in touch with your local Cats Protection, they should help you.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 08/12/2016 18:55

Oh Zombie I'm so sorry.

Sorry to hear your situation. I would start with friends and family, see if anybody would like them both or one of them.
After that vet is a good call, and then I suppose you are looking at rescues.
I find local rescues are better as rarely pts.
Are they used to dogs at all? I wold happily take one.
Have 4 cats and 1 dog currently so that might not suit them

acornsandnuts · 08/12/2016 18:56

So sorry Zombie. Do you have a Marie Curie or Macmillan nurse, they do have resources that they can contact to make sure Zombiecats go to a good home.

Take care. Flowers

Manumission · 08/12/2016 18:58

Aw (((((((zombie)))))) Flowers Wine

RSPCA maybe?

glenthebattleostrich · 08/12/2016 18:58

No other ideas but just wanted to say how sorry I am to see this. You are a wonderful poster and come across as an all round lovely person.

Manumission · 08/12/2016 19:02

Home Direct sounds a good, pet-centred approach polter

LineyReborn · 08/12/2016 19:02

Hi Zombie, please don't use the RSPCA.

I'll help any way I can.

lougle · 08/12/2016 19:03

Hi Zombie, I'm sorry that time has come. It's so hard to say goodbye to old furries. www.cinnamon.org.uk The cinnamon Trust is a charity for exactly this situation. I hope they can help you.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:04

I'm so sorry, Zombie.

Try all the suggestions if you have the strength. My own lad came to live with me at 14 and has had a good many happy years since by the way.

TheCatsWhiskers · 08/12/2016 19:05

So sorry, Zombie.

These organisations may be able to help, but not sure where you are based.

If you speak to your vet they Should to give more local contacts and may know someone who is looking for older cats.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:10

Oh - and don't worry that loving homes won't be found. The Litter Tray will ensure they're both sorted out. Smile

sananbaz · 08/12/2016 19:11

Definitely call the Cinnamon Trust, it's what they specialise in. They can arrange volunteers to help you look after the cats whilst you're still at home, then they can arrange fosterers if you need hospitalisation. When they need a permanent new home, they arrange that too.
Sending you strength and peace Flowers

LineyReborn · 08/12/2016 19:12

I agree that this Litter Tray will sort it out. It will happen.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:15

Can you give us a (very rough) location, Zombie so that people reading can start asking? Smile

Gowgirl · 08/12/2016 19:16

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this on top of everything else zombie. Take care of yourself x

monkeyfacegrace · 08/12/2016 19:24

Oh zombie. I'm a long time poster but always only lurked on your threads as I never know what to say.

Surely MN can pull together and rehome your cats. Whereabouts are you?

monkeyfacegrace · 08/12/2016 19:25

Maybe zombiecatstm could have their own threads.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:26

Here's your starter for 10, anyway.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:28

And the app is still substituting ''' for ''' it seems. Wink

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/12/2016 19:29

(((((Zombie)))))

blueeyedpea · 08/12/2016 19:36

Sorry that you are facing such a difficult decision, I know people who have successfully used the Cinnamon Trust and am sure they can help you too.

Soubriquet · 08/12/2016 19:40
Sad

I hope you manage to find somewhere perfect. Take care of yourself Zombie dearest
