Re-homing my beloved ZombieCats™

This is the thread I prayed I would never need to post. However...

I have terminal breast cancer and my prognosis is another few months if I'm lucky. I live alone with ZombieCatMaisie and ZombieCatTinkerbelle. They are 12 yo and 11yo.

Where do I begin to find them new homes? (They don't get along particularly well and would be happier apart.) Do I ask my vet? CPL? Local rescues?

I will check back periodically but I'm spending more time lying down (as that minimises my pain) than online these days.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tiggy, I can't believe you've got cake on your brain! now I want cake too

Zombie has been a lovely MN/FB friend over the years and if I can do something - anything - to help, I will.

Any updates I shall let you all know (if Zombie is unable)

Feel free to PM me on this, Brian or Zombie, if there's anything I can do by internet or phone in connection with the new homes for the girls.

I won't add to the comments already here, Zombie, but wanted to say how lovely of you to think of your dcats at this time - good on you, and I really hope the fabulous nest of vipers help you get it sorted.
Gentle squeezes (in case anything falls off). Xxx

Hi Zombie
Another one putting in a vote for the Cinnamon Trust. I am a volunteer for them. Their speciality is finding new homes for the pets of elderly or terminally ill people. They like to find "forever foster" homes, where someone gives the cats a new home and the Cinnamon Trust pays for the vet bills/keeps a lifetime check on the cats' welfare. They also have two farm sanctuaries in Cornwall for elderly pets who are not suitable for rehoming where they give them a lovely life. They have a national network of registered volunteers and will contact someone in your area who will be able to look after your cats on a long or short term basis. (I had a call from them last week asking if I could foster two cats for a lady who had to go into hospital suddenly). They have a 24-hour phone line too for people to ring up if someone is suddenly hospitalised and emergency foster has to be found.
Best wishes xxx

We got our lovely moggies through Mumsnet (as a Mumsnetter was moving abroad and thanks to someone on this thread alerting me)!

Zombie - hope you are doing as well as you can today. Your cats will be looked after and loved. I fostered a cat years back in a similar situation and we loved her to bits.

cozietoesie · 12/12/2016 13:40

My own boy came to me at 14 - as I said upthread. He's lived the life of Riley ever since. Grin

BrianCoxWithBellsOn · 12/12/2016 23:02

Hi everyone, I've seen Zombie on FB today and she's trying to sort her sleep pattern/morphine requirements out, so fingers crossed there are some ok days ahead. I've not messaged her as she did ask for a few days to try and sort things out, I will post if I hear anything. Cinnamon Trust are looking like an excellent starting point though, I'd have thought.

Old cats are the best.

Wolfiefan · 12/12/2016 23:05

Thanks for the update. Hoping Zombie gets some sleep and the morphine does the job. Cinnamon Trust is awesome. It offers real support. They aim to keep pets with their owners as long as possible and arrange short and long term foster care too.

cozietoesie · 12/12/2016 23:07

Cinnamon Trust do look to be ideal in her situation.

ComedyBoobs · 15/12/2016 16:22

Hello Zombie, have you found anywhere for the ZombieKitties?

OliviaStabler · 15/12/2016 17:06

I will help if I can.

BrianCoxWithBellsOn · 15/12/2016 22:29

Hi everyone.

I've spoken to Zombie this evening and for numerous reasons, she is leaving making any decisions/making calls etc, until after the festivities.

ZombieLad™ is coming from across the Pond next week with his wife-to-be, so Zombie and her lovely kitties will be in good hands.

So Zombie doesn't have to keep popping back here, she is updating her cancer-journey thread (which is positive and Absolutely Not For Sadness) which is Here

I've had some bloody lovely PM's and the support and offers for help on this thread, I'm not gonna lie - bit of a lump in my throat.

I'll update as and when, with Zombie's permission. Even if I end up fostering them myself for a while, which I doubt will be needed, we will see her right Flowers

cozietoesie · 15/12/2016 22:34

Thank you, Brian. Smile

CherrySkull · 17/12/2016 23:21

Brian, i love locally, have just dropped you a PM, hopefully it will help point you in the right direction!

ComedyBoobs · 18/12/2016 20:57

Thanks for the update, Brian
Best wishes to Zombie Flowers

Araminta99 · 20/12/2016 06:18
