Re-homing my beloved ZombieCats™

IamtheZombie · 08/12/2016 18:51

This is the thread I prayed I would never need to post. However...

I have terminal breast cancer and my prognosis is another few months if I'm lucky. I live alone with ZombieCatMaisie and ZombieCatTinkerbelle. They are 12 yo and 11yo.

Where do I begin to find them new homes? (They don't get along particularly well and would be happier apart.) Do I ask my vet? CPL? Local rescues?

I will check back periodically but I'm spending more time lying down (as that minimises my pain) than online these days.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Would you consider advertising locally first? Maybe through Facebook or your local vets. Seems to be a successful way of rehoming much loved cats round here.

BrianCoxWithBellsOn · 08/12/2016 19:49

When I worked at a local rescue centre, the cats with a similar history did tend to get snapped up because the story really pulled at heartstrings.

I was at a place that, if they weren't rehomed they just lived on site forever. There were 3 or 4 old cats with the run of the place, none interacted with each other, but I've never known happier cats! Even a feral cat made them his home for a number of years, every winter he'd rock up and then he'd disappear over summer to return the next winter.

Anyway. I'm babbling.

I hope reading this thread comforts you . They WILL be found new home/s. Just let us know what we can do.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:52

'Time for my winter quarters' he thought. Grin

WannaBe · 08/12/2016 19:52

Flowers zombie. Where in the country are you and can you tell us a bit more about them?

I could potentially take one (if they would rather not go together) I have a dog (two at weekends when DP is here) they are both guide dogs though and used to cats.

meditrina · 08/12/2016 19:54

It's been a couple of decades I've had a cat, but DD really, really wants someone furry in the house. DH is an experienced cat owner, with those of his living into their 20s.

If you don't find a local solution, pm me. If they'd be happy with urban, that is.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 19:55

Maybe Zombie could indicate - later on when she's able to - whether she could take PMs from people with potential offers? Smile

BlackDoglet · 08/12/2016 20:04

Another supporter of the Cinnamon Trust here. They were set up to support people in exactly your position. I'm sure they will find a solution for you. Flowers

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/12/2016 20:45

I'm sorry to hear your situation. Another yes to the Cinnamon Trust. If you give an idea of location I'll see if I have any other ideas. I have a job that involves country wide travel so may be able to help with transport if you get a good home offer but it's a long way from where you live.

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 20:52

That's a wonderful thought, Weeds. Flowers

I'm sure that ways and means will be found to get each zombiecat to a great new home, though, even if you can't do it.

Vinorosso74 · 08/12/2016 20:53

Am so so sorry to read what you're going throughZombie. There is some good advice on here, please look after yourself Flowers

stumblymonkey · 08/12/2016 20:56

I'm so sorry about your news Zombie, I'm one of your thread lurkers so have followed your story Flowers

I'm a foster carer for Cat's Protection, they will definitely help you and I'm sure they can arrange for you to keep the cats with you and then take them in when it is needed.

The Cinnamon Trust also sounds great. You're a fabulous cat mum to think of your fur babies at a time like this...

timtam23 · 08/12/2016 20:57

Oh Zombie so sorry to hear this. I hope you can find good homes for them. I don't have any useful suggestions but the Cinnamon Trust sounds lovely.

MOIST · 08/12/2016 20:58

I have no room for any more cats but wanted to add

Do Not Worry

Between us we will find them a perfect home where they will be loved. We will ferry them across the country in a chain if necessary.

Much love and hugs

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/12/2016 21:00

No more advice but Flowers I hope you find the best homes for them soon.

SnowBodyforrrrm · 08/12/2016 21:02

Flowers zombie. I'm so sorry to hear about your prognosis and your darling cats. Are you near London? Maybe the Celia Hammond centre could help with advice if not practical solutions. Sending much love through this devastating time.

BernardsBum · 08/12/2016 21:03

Zombie I am a long time lurker on your threads and so have picked up that you're in Shropshire (as am I. God's own county Smile). Try Shropshire Cat Rescue, or Cats Protection. My two boys came from lovely people at Telford and Wrekin Cats Protection - I'm sure they will be able to help.

kali110 · 08/12/2016 21:12

Zombie i'm so sorry Flowers
Cats protection? Or the cinammon trust as posted?
Could you ask friends and family if they know of any reliable people who would want another pet?
atleast you'll you they'll be with good people.
Take care of yourself x Flowers

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/12/2016 21:14

OK, Shropshire's not a million miles from me. If you get a home offer and need help with transport let me know when you feel up to it, I'm sure I could sort something out for you.

And as i've delurked, I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are Zombie and I wish you all the very, very best Flowers

bibbitybobbityyhat · 08/12/2016 21:18

Your cats will be well taken care of Zombie.

Meanwhile, who is taking care of you? Have you been put in touch with Macmillan or similar? If you need to spend most of your time lying down due to pain then you need a bit of assistance from someone who can visit you at home.

horseygeorgie1 · 08/12/2016 21:19

So sorry to read this Zombie. You are a very valued member of this forum.

ComedyBoobs · 08/12/2016 21:25

Hello,
I'm so sorry you have to rehome your cats, Zombie
I'm in the South West and have room for one more cat. If either of the ZombieCats are cat and child friendly and are interested.

We have 2 10 year old female cats, a large house and garden.
Please PM me if you think we are a suitable match.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/12/2016 21:31

I'm so sorry Zombie. We've never 'spoken' but I've often seen your posts. I'm sorry I can't add anything to what has already been said but I wanted to send you and the Zombiecats a gentle hug. You're doing an amazing job looking after them, I hope you've got someone looking after you Flowers
