Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

I do think you should stop him from eating flies. They carry lots of Bacteria and Viruses. This can make cats very sick.

anoldiebutagoody · 04/07/2016 08:25

Yes fingers crossed cozie, in a couple of weeks the vet said as long as we can keep his temperature normal.
She's has a quick look every time we go and she wants to make the op as quick as possible so he's home quickly to keep his stress levels down so it'll probably be a quick exam when he's coming round.
I mentioned to the vet that he loves catching and eating flies and she has no problem with it, I actually said " he's better than fly spray" and she said " and more eco friendly", apart from which I'm not exactly sure how to stop him when he is in the garden, he's much quicker than me!

That will be good. He's already starting to get a slightly 'tommy' look to his head, I think, so you may not have too much time now he's improved.

anoldiebutagoody · 04/07/2016 09:54

What's a "Tommy" look ? Do their heads differ?
I'm hoping it all goes ahead OK I've noticed his wee is starting to smell stronger and I don't want him to start spraying the house.

Unneutered mature males can have a slightly different shape to their heads - more 'jowly', say. (It's sometimes referred to as 'cobby'.) I like it - my concern would be if his hormones were coursing, he escaped from the house/ garden, and got into a fight with another cat. I'm not too sure how his immune system would do if he had to live with extra infection from a wound of some sort.

anoldiebutagoody · 04/07/2016 14:04

I didn't know that about their heads, I suppose it's because all my boys have been neutered so I never came across it.
The fighting is my main concern and the problem with roaming long distances to find a female so any infection might have taken hold by the time he comes back and I can get him to the vet.
I really do want it to be done and ideally by the end of the month.
There's obviously the risk that the stress may trigger the FIP which is why he's getting the express treatment -I'm hoping they'll let me wait for him I can always go and get a coffee for an hour or so while he wakes up.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 04/07/2016 14:10

Yes - there will be risks but, on balance, I think they're outweighed by the potential benefits. Your vet will advise. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 04/07/2016 16:57

Last time we spoke she was OK to do the "express"version with feliway plugs and super fast turnaround, providing his temperature is normal. Until she explained it I didn't realise the impact of stress on cats with high Coronavirus titre.
She did say that if we couldn't do it there is an implant which will make him infertile for 12 months, but I don't know if it does it by affecting the hormone levels or some other way
Anyway fingers crossed we'll be able to do it the standard way
He's sleeping a fair bit today but so is Bobby so I think they've been playing during the night. It's rainy here so they don't want to go out. Still waking up for food, eating OK and bright enough so I'll still give him his day off from temperature taking.

cozietoesie · 04/07/2016 17:40

Given his troubles, you're pretty well bound to expect the worst - whereas a cat owner with another cat who was having a quieter day would likely just be saying to themselves 'Oh, he's having a quieter day etc'.

If he's perky (when awake) and eating as normal...........

anoldiebutagoody · 04/07/2016 21:15

Yes you're right, I'm constantly on tenterhooks. Eventually I'll get used to his ways and cut him some slack.
He's been running around with Bobby this evening and playing with me and his ping pong ball so he's just having a quieter day. He's having a little snooze at the moment t draped over the toys on the floor Smile.

How's the lad so far today?

anoldiebutagoody · 06/07/2016 11:16

Morning cozie
He's bright enough, he hasn't eaten a huge amount this morning so far, mainly because he keeps getting distracted by more interesting things. Also I found a half eaten bird in the living room this morning, well more than half eaten there was only half a leg left so he may have eaten some of that too.
He's had 2 days off from temperature taking so I must do it later -the growled and scratched hubby last time and keeps sitting down so I can't get at him Grin
He thought he was going to the vet this morning but it was Bobby going for a 6mth check.
Poor Bobby gets so stressed in the car, he's usually sick but added to that he pooed and peed today - I think may have to ask for some mild sedation for him. He's only been twice before and was sick both times but today was horrible for him. He has to have his jabs in Dec so need to think of something by then.
I'll update when I've managed to take Teddy's temperature, providing I'm not in the hospital with hubby!

Oh my. Poor Bobby.

anoldiebutagoody · 06/07/2016 13:05

Yes I feel really bad putting him through it, all for a check up to get full cover on the insurance Sad.
He's fast asleep now after having some food, got out of the carrier when we got home and came up to me ,tail up and purring, he's such a lovely boy bless him .

A lot can happen to a cat in six months. Smile I have them to the vet half yearly if I can afford it and I recall dates. (Seniorboy goes much more often now but that's age and circumstances.)

exWifebeginsat40 · 06/07/2016 14:59

i also have a Teddy - she's black and orange, 8 months old and just awesome. i'm glad your Teddy is doing ok.

anoldiebutagoody · 06/07/2016 20:08

Ex your Teddy is the same age as my Teddy hope she has had a less eventful life health wise.
Managed to take his temperature again and it's 38.5 so normal range again (8 days now). Vet is back in work tomorrow so I'll see if I can speak to her.

exWifebeginsat40 · 06/07/2016 20:17

she was tiny when i got her - vet reckons 5 weeks. because of this i am definitely mama kitty - she is my shadow, stares at me to get to sleep and likes having her paws held!

my older cat, who is 9, was VERY unimpressed to begin with. they play together now and it's given Stella a new lease of life.

i hope you get to the bottom of Teddy's issues soon. he's beautiful - both of yours are.

cozietoesie · 06/07/2016 20:28

Good news about the temperature. Smile

Was it easy to take?

anoldiebutagoody · 07/07/2016 09:19

Aww Ex she sounds lovely, I wish Teddy was a bit more cuddly, he's like a 9 year old boy you go to hug - it's sort of "that's enough now gerroff" Smile.

Temperature was OK cozie, he grumbled a bit and kept trying to sit down but wasn't as bad as the last time, I think the few days off helped. He's bright as a button this morning even though it's raining. h
He's had his breakfast, been chasing Bobby around and is currently sitting on the windowsill half snoozing and half making that clicking noise they make at the little birds on our guttering. Oh spoke too soon they're both off to have a look outside 😀

cozietoesie · 07/07/2016 09:46

You got away with it then. 😊 Good on Teddy.

When are you due to chat with the vet?

cozietoesie · 07/07/2016 09:49

PS - is he still taking his probiotics and antacid?

anoldiebutagoody · 07/07/2016 11:54

Hi cozie
Yes got away with it this time, who knows how he 'll be next 😀
He's still having the antacid at night which seems to have stopped the vomiting in the morning, bearing in mind his temperature was OK when he was vomiting previously so temperature didn't seem to be the cause.
He's gone off the probiotics a bit, I' m still adding them but he's not clearing his plate like he used to so he may not be getting the full dose - my thoughts are that some must be better than none (and Bobby gets the leftovers anyway.)
I'm going to put a call into the vet after lunch, as she's just back after a week. I'll update after we've spoken.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 07/07/2016 12:22

Good luck.

It was always going to be his immune system doing the business, anyway. All you can do is give supportive therapy - and love of course! Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 07/07/2016 17:04

Seems vet isn't back in work until tomorrow -I could have sworn she said Mon,Tues &Wed. Never mind I'll try again tomorrow.
I don't think I can do any more for him at the moment - wish he'd purr a bit more, I'm not used to cats that don't purr, maybe he'll grow into it. Smile Sometimes I'm quite hopeful, he comes running up to me when he's outside and I go out, but when I stroke him he's not fussed. I did get him to purr today by stroking under his chin and the sides of his face 😀
For some reason he doesn't like my hubby, he seems very nervous of him, maybe it's because he's heavy footed and noisy on the wood floors , he did frighten him once when he nearly stood on him but that was when he had not long arrived and he's done nothing but try to be friends since.
