Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

How has he fared with the Prednisolone ?

anoldiebutagoody · 02/03/2017 17:47

He's doing really well, cozie.
The first day he had them it was a sunny day and he was leaping about in the garden trying to catch flying things. He has calmed down since but again the weather hasn't been as good.
His appetite has improved too which is a bonus. No sickness or pain and he seems to be enjoying his food more. He dislikes taking them and tries to spit them out but has only managed to do it twice ( then took 3 tries to get it down him ).
Spoke to Lisa yesterday to give her an update and she is pleased, I mentioned that he had a bit of a gungey eye and she said to keep an eye on it as the Prednisolone suppresses his immune system and we don't want the calcivirus to rear it"s head again, if he shows any signs she'll reduce the dose.
At the moment he's on 5g a day which we are going to continue for another 10 days (providing he doesn't get any other symptoms) then start to reduce the dose over a period of time, either to stop completely or get to the lowest possible dose.
Overall he seems to be benefitting from them so fingers crossed the gungey eye is just a blip.

Yes - the immune suppression is a slight downside. Good news otherwise, though. Smile

cozietoesie · 25/03/2017 01:02

How's the lad? Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 26/03/2017 12:37

He's going cozie, thanks for asking. He did have a bout of bad diarhea and sickness around 10 days ago and wouldn't eat, so we had another trip to see Lisa. Anyway we reduced the Prednisolone to 2.5mg and gave him antisickness and famatodine for 4/5 days and it all cleared. I think he probably picked up a bug and because the Prednisolone suppressed his immune system it affected him badly. He's on the half dose until 8th April then we'll halve it again to see how he does. He's loving the sunny weather we are having, out in the garden chasing anything that flies and attacking Bobby's head, when he's snoozing in the sun, so overall it looks like it is working well at the moment ☺, hopefully we'll be able to reduce the dose even more or get him off them completely in to e.

Phew! Don't do that to me again! Smile

Glad he's doing well.

Didn't know what you meant until I red my opening comment again 😁 oops sorry ! He's a little tyke but he's my little tyke and he's going nowhere ☺ they are both out again this morning checking on what the birds are up to.

Glad to hear Teddy's doing so well and they're both enjoying the weather. Will you be getting a yummy birdy brought in for your lunch?

cozietoesie · 27/03/2017 12:12

Nah. You're OK. It was me.Wink

Just that I had some great aunts for whom the words 'He's going' accompanied - as were most things of the flesh - by a breath sucked in through nicely pursed lips meant that the subject of the conversation was busily engaged in shuffling off this mortal coil. Combined with the lad's history, I felt a frisson of trepidation when I read that. So - it was my end not yours. Grin

I should have had more confidence.

Oh - and enjoy the yummy birdy for your lunch!

anoldiebutagoody · 29/03/2017 20:59

No yummy bird for lunch Time but Bobby did bring me a live one at 3.30 this morning Hmm . Definitely Bobby who catches them, not sure if he shares his spoils with Teddy as he's a greedy guts so think Teddy will only get the leftovers if any.
They were both enjoying the sun earlier in the week and are fed up with the rain we've had over the last 2 days

A wonderful pair. Smile (3.30 though? Shock)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 11/04/2017 10:31

Can't believe I haven't come across the new photos until now. Must have ignore the last new message on thread notification email.

They are both utterly stunning! Definitely no longer kittens but, instead, a very handsome pair of grown lads. And obviously enjoying the sunshine.

I hope you appreciated your midnight snack, though I get the feeling you weren't quite so as thankful as perhaps you might have been!

How have they been in the meantime?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 12/04/2017 10:05

I've just noticed it's exactly a year since you first posted! Such a shame his problems are still ongoing, but he is so much better than he was this time last year, and so much bigger!

cozietoesie · 12/04/2017 12:28

It's a shame but he's still with us, Time - which, if it was indeed You Know What, makes him, if not quite unique, one of a very very small number of cats. Go Teddy. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 15/05/2017 21:58

Quick update on Teddy.
He's still on the Prednisolone 2.5mg daily as when I reduced it he started vomiting again. Spoke to Lisa today and whilst she would prefer it to be the lower dose we have to give him what he needs however we are going to try 2.5mg every other day to see if that works better - if not we'll stay at 2.5.
Apart from a nasty bout of diarrhoea last Friday he's doing OK, eating well and has over the last 2 days found out that he can hunt too. Saturday morning we had 2 mice, I alive and 1 dead which either he or Bobby ate and this morning he brought me a live bird which he promptly lost behind the tumble dryer in the utility room. Bearing this in mind we think the diarrhoea was probably due to something he caught and ate.
He's 18 months now, still 3 and a bit kilos, so I don't think he's going to grow into his paws (which when he was a baby suggested he was going to be a big cat) but that's probably because of his early problems and shedding the Coronavirus. It doesn't really matter he's enjoying life and is as well as he can be 😀 unfortunately he still can't be bothered with cuddles 😏
