Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Thanks for all the suggestions I'll keep them in mind .
Well there's good news and no news -the tests for Flev and Fiv are both negative so that's good but we're still waiting for the results of the others FIP, Toxoplasmosis and the blood parasite (Haema something) . When I spoke to the vet I said that he wasn't eating but had been eating OK after our visit last Thursday when he'd had some Metacm
alongside the antibiotics, until Saturday when he went downhill again
Anyway she's prescribed a low dose of Metacam and within an hour he was eating for Wales!! He's got enough to last until the weekend and hopefully we'll have the other results by then. I think the main one to worry about is FIP in fact we has a girl cat who died of FIP about 15 years ago xx I'll update when we have some more news.

Really hope your poor kitten is a bit better today. We've had exactly the same problem with our kitten for the last 2 weeks, sickness, won't eat or drink - he's been hospitalised twice, once for 6 hours and then again for 24 hours to be given iv fluids. He seems to get better, then he goes downhill again, I'm beside myself with worry so I can understand how you feel.

Out of interest, can I ask you what food you are giving him? I only ask because I've noticed my Kitten seems to go back downhill after he has eaten one specific brand of food and was starting to think there may be something wrong with that batch of food ( it's probably nothing, but we're at a total loss as to what's wrong with him ). He has terribly inflamed intestines.

Good luck with Teddy ( he's a beauty ).

Lady I' m really sorry to hear about your current baby -it's very worrying isn't it. Teddy is now eating Applaws chicken and pumpkin or shredded chicken I cook for him. He was eating Felix good as it looks and the vet did wonder if he'd developed an allergic reaction to something in it, but he was never sick after he's eaten it was always when his tummy was empty so just froth. When we control his high temperature he's running about and eating like a normal kitten but when the meds wear off he's poorly again. Hope you get to the bottom of it with your little one soon xx

Do you know when the results of the other tests will be coming through?

anoldiebutagoody · 05/05/2016 16:56

We've had the rest of the results through and it's negative for Toxoplasmosis and Haema whatsit so that's the good news. The not so good news is that he has high levels of the Coronavirus antibodies in his system so he has to go in next Tuesday to have X-rays and scans to see if there are any growths, abscesses or cloud in his lungs or abdomen so nothing more to do until then which is OK as he's fine now he has the Metacam. But we are controlling it rather than curing it, if it can be cured.
Korma I think I misled you these were a repeat of the bloods the ran when he went in overnight for fluids, only these were sent to a haematology lad for more in depth investigation. I do believe my vet is doing everything they can and the vet looking after Teddy specialises in feline illnesses and is a real "cat person" - she talks to him just the way I do :-) .

Oh dear vomiting and off his food today despite having his meds. I'm starting to get scared that we're going to lose him Sad.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2016 16:58

What's he fed on?.

cozietoesie · 06/05/2016 17:10

I think you said that you had once had a cat with FIP. Sad

Have the relevant tests been carried out for this lad?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/05/2016 17:10

Poor baby. We've got all our fingers and claws crossed for him here (though my huntress says she hopes he gets better soon, it's very hard catching mice with crossed claws!!!)

anoldiebutagoody · 06/05/2016 17:29

Yes Cozie we did have a cat that died of the "wet" version of FIP it was about 15 years and 3 cats ago. Our last cat died just before Christmas and he was producing a lot of fluid in his abdomen but they said he had Pancreatitis and tumors in his abdomen - I'm begining to wonder if he had FIP. Even so it was before Christmas and the litter trays and feeding dishes were brand new as old cat used to go outside. It would have been 21/2 months between old cat dying and kittens being allowed into the garden.
The last blood tests showed Teddy has high levels of the coronavirus antibodies but I don't know what the numbers are. He's not showing any signs of the wet version yet which is why the vet was doing the xrays and ultrasound to check for any abnormalities, fluid, abcesses etc.
He's still not eating and has vomited again so I phoned the vet, she didn't want to leave it until Tuesday to see him so I'm taking him in tomorrow morning. He's still quite bright and playing with his toys and the other cat , so I don't think leaving him another 12/15 hours will make much difference.

Oh no, poor Teddy. Have they suggested opening him up and having a look? That is what our vet has done for our poorly kitten today Sad and it has shown that he keeps going downhill because the muscles in his intestines are not contracting and so not moving any food along. The vet has said this explains him going off his food ( because his stomach is still full with it not being moved away down his intestines ) and explains the vomiting. We think this has been caused by a virus that was brought in by kitten number 2 who we bought a few days before this kitten became ill. Do you think it could be something similar with Teddy?

anoldiebutagoody · 06/05/2016 17:51

Hi Lady
I don't think it's anything like that as he never vomits food and his stools are normal. We had a cat that had something called Key Gaskel syndrome where the intestine wasn't moving the food I used to feed her liquid food by syringe.
The vets hope they will be able to spot anything remiss on either the xrays or scans - they are looking for things associated with the high corona antibodies/FIP. Just had to stop mid post as he came in looking for food, tried him with the chicken I'd cooked for him but he didn't want it so tried Applaws chicken & pumkin and he's eating it (speaks volumes about my cooking Blush Grin ) .
Just keeping everything crossed for him poor baby.

Best of luck to him and to you all.

Let us know how tomorrow goes.

anoldiebutagoody · 06/05/2016 19:34

Cheeky little so and so has just eaten half a tin of Applaws and three-quarter of a steamed fillet of fish :-)

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 06/05/2016 19:48

Excellent - but don't let him eat too much in case he overloads a tender stomach and brings it up again.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 07/05/2016 09:01

How is he today? Did he manage to keep his yummy supper down?

timtam23 · 07/05/2016 11:42

Hope he is doing OK today OP

cozietoesie · 07/05/2016 13:34

How did it go at the vets this morning?

anoldiebutagoody · 07/05/2016 13:35

The vet decided to do the X-rays and scans today rather than leave it until Tuesday, so he's there at the moment, but he can come home later today. They said they would ring me with the results this afternoon although the vet that usually takes care of Teddy isn't there today so I won't be happy until she has seen them.
He kept all his food down, in fact he has never brought up any food it's always just white froth. He was sick about 5am this morning and just a little at 9am,however he hadn't had any meds this morning as they said not to.
I don't know whether to hope they find an abscess or that it's all clear Hmm.
I told him before he went in that everyone wants him to get better and there are lots of fingers and paws crossed for him .

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 07/05/2016 13:36

Good luck to him. Let us know if/when you hear something.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 07/05/2016 17:25

Hope it's goodness and that he's feeling better very soon. Give him a hug for me.

anoldiebutagoody · 07/05/2016 19:33

He's back home- no fluid on lungs or in abdomen and no tumors/growths or abscesses. He's a bit groggy from the anaesthetic but has had some fish which I steamed in milk and was thirsty so had a little of the milk and water.
He's now gone to bed.
My proper vet will review the scans and X-rays on Monday and we have an appointment at 4.15 to see her to decide what to do next.

Sometimes ours does the white froth sick. Cereals sets ours off spectacularly.
