@BigBundleOfFluff
@Cocopuff

Will have to look back to tag others as cannot remember all names.

Cockapup hates his harness and backs away with his tail down. We've tried two different ones and had the same reaction to both. Once he's outside the front door his tail goes up and he's happy as Larry.

Gizlotsmum · 28/05/2023 11:50

Gizlotspup is the same. Even in puppy class! I try to put as much distance as possible and distract with treats but it doesn’t always work!

Gizlotsmum · 28/05/2023 11:51

That was about jumping up at other dogs!

Gizlotsmum · 28/05/2023 11:53

Yep our pup is the same. He lies down and the flops as soon as it is on. He does enjoy his walks tho!

Unluckycat1 · 28/05/2023 12:06

So glad I asked about the harness :) Unluckypup loves her walks too so I'll focus on that. Gizlotpup looks just as gloomy as she does at the injustice of having it put on.

I have yet another (tmi) question 🙈

We're nearly at the bottom of a 15kg bag of dog food that is rated very highly on that all about dog food website (Carnilove). When we first got her Unluckypup had awful runny poos and terrible smelling wind. James Wellbeloved seemed to fix that but it didn't rate as highly on the website so I made the switch. While not as bad as before, I feel like we've taken a step back in terms of her guts on the better dog food. I don't know whether to persevere and put up with the wind etc knowing she's getting food that's good for her, or to switch back to James Wellbeloved. I've tried SO many different dog foods over her short life and just want to settle once and for all. (I also mix in sardines or butchers wet food, and occasionally meat for some meals)

Orangebadger · 28/05/2023 12:42

Orangepup also hates the harness. Ears down lies down etc but once out very happy. We also occasionally go out in the car to walk somewhere further away and once past the car she's happy, so very similar.

Runny poos also a problem here. Usually very solid in the morning and worse as the day goes in. Tbh I put in down to orange pup eating anything, as much as I try to stop her, it's impossible to keep on top of it at all times when out. She's not over fed. And as it's not consistent I don't think it's her food.

@Unluckycat1 have you thought about raw diet? I hear that helps if it's runnny all the time?

With regards to loose poo our vet said it was normal can be due to excitement or stress..

Orangebadger · 28/05/2023 12:56

@Gizlotsmum yes sometimes Orangepup will sometimes do a loose poo when walking down a noisy road she doesn't like so stress certainly part of it.

But she is also a dog who tries to lick bird poo, eat our cats poo tries to eat chewing gum etc so a big part of her loose stools is all the crap I try to stop her from eating!

@Unluckycat1 did you try Millie's wolf heart? That sorted fluffpup's poop out. Smalller and clean pick up. Holy grail of poop! I don't think Fluffpup tolerates chicken very well.

PastaPup · 28/05/2023 13:11

Loving reading this thread! We have chosen our pup but still 2 more weeks until gotcha day

@PastaPup what a beauty!
I think I am going to try and work on our pup jumping up at people with regards to training. We went out for a walk this morning and she was full of excitement when a runner went past. I find it difficult trying to pep talk my 10 yr old DD when greeting doggy to not over excite her but it is like talking to a brick wall at times. I came across a good training technique where dogs don’t go up to each other usually but carry on calmly walking past each other and it’s generally me that greet’s puppy and she get’s hyper. Was very interesting so will try and put that into practise. Will ask my trainer at training class this week as well what she suggests.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 28/05/2023 16:01

Oh @PastaPup Oh my that pup is beautiful , puppy season in full swing . So many lovely puppies on the site now .

Gizlotsmum · 28/05/2023 16:04

Oh I have one of those and stones are a favourite! I am trying to reach drop it but not very successful

Riverlee · 28/05/2023 19:18

@PastaPup Pastapup. Is adorable.

@Gizlotsmum we have a stone cruncher as well. He had got a lot better, but seems to be having a phase of picking up stones again. He’s worse when he’s tired, or trying to get our attention. It’s as if he taunts us with it.

We've always taught our dog the word "dirty" for anything we never wanted them to pick up , a bit like you would with a toddler ,simple but effective .

Unluckycat1 · 28/05/2023 20:42

@Orangebadger maybe unluckypup is suffering from the same, a reaction to all the rubbish she eats (cow poo today 😒) plus maybe the training treats. As she's fine in the morning and it gets worse as the day goes on. Excitement is definitely a trigger to loose poo 🙈 eg post playing with another dog.

@BigBundleOfFluff I think it's time! - I've tried everything else 🤣

@PastaPup awwwwwww ❤️

I'm attaching a pic of just how ridiculously sad unluckypup looks after the harness goes on (which made me sad, but now I know it's normal I'm quite amused at the sulking drama of it 😁)

@Unluckycat1 ooooo that look rivals the look my teenage daughter gives me when I tell her to do her homework. Look at her long legs!!! Would you consider dna testing, she's so pretty.

Lovely to see all the new pupsters.

Riverlee · 28/05/2023 21:49

@Unluckycat1 what a great ‘Kevin and Perry’ picture.
(apologies to those who don’t get this reference).

Luckycat1 · 28/05/2023 22:58

@BigBundleOfFluff I'd love to dna test her. I've seen talk of some tests being less accurate than others so if anyone knows a legit service let me know :)

@Riverlee reference understood 😅 and yes! The slouch 😁

Unluckycat1 · 31/05/2023 12:00

Aw Unluckypup's sister has been returned to the rescue centre :'( Applying to adopt her would be madness, right? Risking them bonding too strongly (littermate syndrome)? I won't do it, just the cost of food, insurance and flea treatments etc x2 is enough to put me off, but the thought of them running around together is so lovely ❤💔as an aside, she looks so different!

Just had Pookiepup for her second visit to my local dog friendly pub , the staff made such a fuss of her . I think she likes it there .😁

pookiedoodlepuppy · 31/05/2023 14:58

@Unluckycat1 What a dilemma , the cost of running two dogs is so much more expensive than it used to be , I don't think I would have two again .

Riverlee · 31/05/2023 15:03

Unluckypup’s sister is a very unlucky pup, (and I thought you’d re-named your pup Luckypup?).

I think lots of visits to the pub is in order, to increase her socialisation skills of course,as she’s doing so well there…

Riverlee · 31/05/2023 15:03

The second response is for Pookiepup, although perhaps all our pups could do with some socialisation training!

Unluckycat1 · 31/05/2023 15:16

@Riverlee after a couple of scary incidents (one was Unluckypup inhaling two large chicken bones! thankfully no terrible consequences) I feel like calling her lucky is tempting fate 🙈

@pookiedoodlepuppy has the cost of dog ownership gone up a lot then? I find everything costs a bit more than I had expected, insurance was a shock for a young healthy mongrel, especially knowing it will go up year by year (and will shoot up after a certain age).
