@Mumma2Ro I slept downstairs on the sofa , while my pup was waking in the night for a wee .
Make sure they have been toileted and put her in the crate with a cuddly toy a chew toy and a duck or something . The whining at night will stop when she is used to it(few days) . I never really give them any attention at toilet breaks , it's wee then back to bed .
I 'm maybe really strict with puppies, I don't get them out of crate at night for cuddles
You do have to be consistent though.
She is very cute .x
( I almost told you to give her a dick or something
😂)

Gizlotsmum · 23/05/2023 09:48

So Gizlotspuos new trick is chewing the floor😱any tips?

Riverlee · 23/05/2023 13:39

Can you spray it with anti chew spray?

Diversion techniques?

Pet corrector spray every time he chews it?

Gizlotsmum · 23/05/2023 16:21

i haven’t tried anti chew spray. It’s tricky as he does it when I am either out the room or on a works call so can’t actually interfere! (He’s not stupid) I crate him if I know I have a works call but sometimes they are not planned!

Cocopuff · 23/05/2023 17:21

Give him legal chew toys to focus on instead? And fence off the area he likes to chew on?

Beginningless · 23/05/2023 21:53

Aww @Mumma2Ro , what a beautiful pup! And welcome to all the other beauties. Our pup didn’t like the crate, lots of crying and barking too. Eventually we gave up! That’s probably not good advice but it worked for us. We have a small utility room at the back door that we could shut him into, so we used that for overnight and when we started to leave him for short periods. That went much more smoothly than the crate and before too long we just let him roam about downstairs.

Beginningless · 23/05/2023 21:56

I meant to say @Gizlotsmum, it can be helpful to have a set of toys or chews that only come out in case of emergency needing to occupy pup. Today whilst I got the shopping delivered I had a yak bar ready and he trots off to chew that instead of trying to ‘retrieve’ the delivery man’s clothes. See also licky mat with peanut butter or puzzle toys.

Gizlotsmum · 23/05/2023 22:19

Thank you. I think I need to keep some special toys to hand, at the moment he has all then toys all the time!

Southwest12 · 23/05/2023 23:42

I've come to join the other slightly frazzled new puppy owners. This is Bob dog, 12 weeks old today and been with me for 2 weeks now. He's super cute but dear god we need to learn the word no!

He will chew anything he can find, the anti chewing spray did nothing, and I'm sure that one day he's going to chew through a cable and go bang! He also thinks the pots in the garden are his personal digging pots!! He also eats anything he can find in the garden, he even sometimes rings the wee wee bells so he can go out and eat/dig.

But he sleeps through the night in his crate and only cries for a few minutes and then stops. Monday is the day we can finally go out for a proper walk! We can't go anywhere without people stopping to tell him he's gorgeous, he's going to get a big head.

Midnightstar76 · 24/05/2023 13:27

He is gorgeous @Southwest12
Have nearly completed puppy training course and pondering what next? Mine is 18 wks tomorrow and as a girl pup I have also been thinking of her first season as a complete novice. Thinking should I wait until after her first season to do more training and do my own at home in the mean time? Any advice anyone?

Gizlotsmum · 24/05/2023 17:51

So today has been a good day. We had 2 walks with minimum pulling. We ignored ( mostly) bikes and people. He didn’t listen completely but hasn’t chewed the floor and actually sat at the vets until people walked past but then sat again quickly

Riverlee · 24/05/2023 21:49

Welcome Bob pup. What a lovely, fluffy boy he is. What breed is he?

My pup was a pot digger as well. Didn’t really dog the grass, but loves the pots. They slowly got removed from the garden one by one… . I’m hoping as now he’s bigger (ten months old) we can return them back.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 25/05/2023 06:31

👋🏻@Southwest12 (virtual pet ) for Bob .

Riverlee · 26/05/2023 08:04

Stupid dog has woken up at 5am for the last two days. One disgruntled (and very tired) owner. I’m not an early morning person.

Gizlotsmum · 26/05/2023 08:29

Oh no. Is dog in a crate? Is it the early morning light? How old is pup? We are early starters but 5am would kill me!

Riverlee · 27/05/2023 17:12

Yes, in crate. Today, 6am so better

Cocopuff · 27/05/2023 20:22

Is there a cover on the crate? Is the light waking them?

Cocopuff · 27/05/2023 20:27

On todays walk Coco was sat with me at a bench calmly eating some treats post walk when an off the lead Pomeranian puppy ran up and started trying to hump her! I scooped her up quickly and stood up but the owner was nowhere to be seen - when she finally ambled up with her friends she used the excuse that the dog is a puppy so super humpy. If your dog is like that keep them on a lead! Other puppies don’t want to be jumped!!

Riverlee · 27/05/2023 21:09

I’d be super humpy with the other dogs owner if that happened to me and my dog!

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2023 21:11

FluffyPup isn't humpy and he's a puppy. He does throw himself at other dogs though, as he loves them. He's really annoying. I cross the road to avoid other dogs, as he's fine if they're not close to him!

Luckycat1 · 27/05/2023 22:19

@Cocopuff I can't imagine having luckypup out of my sight! She's still dog obsessed too @NoWordForFluffy socialising her so much when we first got out and about is potentially a regret, though she does have local dog friends and it's a real joy to see her playing with them. I read that dogs tend to grow out of the must say hi to everyone puppy stage, which I'm hoping is true!

Does anyone else's pup not like having their harness or lead put on? Luckypup looks so sad when I put them on her, and tries to slink away if she sees me pick them up :( I don't think it's to do with the fit as it's been the same with several harnesses. It might be a dislike of the car as we have to walk past it when we leave the house, and occasionally we do go in it. She seems to visibly relax once past the car when she realises it's a regular walk. I find it so sad that she doesn't get excited when she sees the lead, and that the car is potentially a source of anxiety :(

NoWordForFluffy · 27/05/2023 22:26

FluffyPup walks away and rolls over for a belly rub when we get the harness out. It's bonkers because he loves his walk! 🤷‍♀️

Cocopuff · 27/05/2023 22:31

Coco lies down when the harness comes out - but is absolutely fine when out and about

Riverlee · 28/05/2023 08:46

Riverpup hates having his collar put on and fights it, unless we put sone treats down to distract him (lab, therefore food obsessed). I’ve tried training him out of it, but to no avail.

Luckycat1 · 28/05/2023 09:11

These are really reassuring responses. Looks like not showing excitement towards collars/leads etc is normal for young ones. Phew! I've not had a dog before and the adult dogs I know are so happy when they see the lead come out. Hopefully that excitement is something that just takes time.
