New pup arrives tomorrow and my anxiety is rising!

This is a normal feeling isnt it? I could really do with a glass of red to calm me down!

Riverlee · 15/09/2023 14:12

@Xiaoxiong handsome chappy.

Riverlee · 15/09/2023 14:12

@userxx very understandable. Get a good nights sleep tonight!

Losingmymind85 · 17/09/2023 18:29

@Xiaoxiong he is gorgeous! We were told you can go out a week after the second jab from our vet.
Things here are a lot better with biteypup. He's still very, very mouthy but has stopped biting at every interaction. He loves being on a lap and chewing his toy and loves nothing more than leaping onto your lap when playing.
We've been out walking for the last 3 days. It's made such a huge difference to his demeanor. We've got a long way to go to get him walking nicely and having manners around other dogs, but we start puppy class tomorrow so hoping that helps.
The odd thing is he doesn't really relax/really sleep. He always has one eye open and if you move, he's instantly up following you.
Also refuses to go out in the rain so now dealing with a lot of accidents inside.

foxylab2023 · 17/09/2023 18:45

We picked up our little one on Friday. However the amount we are supposed to feed him is huge!!

DueyCheatemAndHow · 17/09/2023 20:25

Guys it was all going so well for three weeks. I need your help please!

Sleep. She doesn't seem to like it. I feed her four times a day, give her probably 3 15-20 min play sessions a day. She has a kong etc. She has a good first nap but after that it's terrible. If we put her in her crate she stays awake (not necessarily unhappily, but awake) if we let her out she doesn't settle. She is such a happy little puppy, really chilled etc but just doesn't seem to want to nap.

I'm trying to get into a routine but it's impossible when she isn't napping!

She sleeps well at night.

Any tips?

Riverlee · 17/09/2023 21:15

Do you recognise the signs when she’s tired? Ie, white crescent in eyes , increase in playing up? Maybe you’re trying to make her sleep when’s she not tired. We found we had a two hour sleep, followed by two hour awake time (approx).

Also, are you over stimulating her ? Maybe reduce the amount of toys out so she’s not overwhelmed. We limited it to one chew toy and one play toy.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 17/09/2023 21:37

OK, from that looks like I'm maybe trying to get her to sleep when she isn't tired. I just thought at 11 weeks she's still supposed to be having 20 hours or so.

I’m away on a 20-day holiday. It was booked before we got Florapup. I miss her so much and even feel pangs of jealousy when our pet sitter sends me updates that show her being introduced to new things. I’m pining and feeling that I should be the one at her side. It’s safe to say, she is actually my baby 😳

Gizlotsmum · 18/09/2023 12:21

@AnnieSnap oh bless, hope you are having a fab holiday other than missing florapup! Gizlotspup slept through a massive thunderstorm last night (as did my son) I was awake waiting for the pup to react…

userxx · 19/09/2023 13:26

Ok, I'm officially a member of this thread now.... photo's to follow.

WTF is the biting about!! How can something so angelic turn feral within 3 minutes. Jesus.

Losingmymind85 · 19/09/2023 14:06

Biteypup got nipped at the walking bit by our house by a much bigger dog. Now refuses point blank to walk that way. Shakes, bites literally refuses to walk. Tried loads of treats but he's genuinely dead scared.
Wouldn't know it from the way he acts in the house. Jumps on the chair and climbs up over your head and pushes himself in between your back and the chair so you have no choice but to move to let him in.

Oh no! Poor pup. Orangepup went through a time of refusing to walk down the main road where buses pass. Was terrified of buses and lorries. I stopped walking there for a short time and then gradually reintroduced it and she's fine now. Take it slowly.

Morning all!
Just popping in with a discount code for forthglade direct. FIRST40. I used this code this morning and got 40% off everything - the 90% range, the Xmas range, treats and Salmon oil. Hopefully it will work again as that's the best I've seen for Forthglade, was well chuffed! Good until 25th sept.

Pic of pup included. She's huffy as it's past her bedtime and I'm still dicking around on my phone...

tizwozliz · 22/09/2023 12:24

I think that's a code for a first order only.

BigBundleOfFluff · 22/09/2023 12:31

Yes - I just used a new email address and cleared cookies etc

Riverlee · 22/09/2023 18:33

RiverPup ate a raw breaded chicken today. When you read up, the articles range from watch and monitor their behaviour, to its very serious due to the fat content etc, and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and infection! As hes presently trying to get at dh’s food, I guess he’s okay.

tizwozliz · 22/09/2023 18:45

Our oldest ate 100g of butter and a raw chicken breast as a pup (two separate incidents) - not even a hint of an upset stomach.

Riverlee · 22/09/2023 18:58

RiverPup loves butter.

Losingmymind85 · 22/09/2023 20:26

Biteypup injured his paw yesterday (got stepped on as underfoot) so went to the vet for check up.
Turns out foot is ok (we're keeping an eye) but he's got a broken baby tooth that apparently needs extracted.
It's not bothering him, he's eating, not smelly breath etc. Usual bitey, horrendous self. Does anyone know of the extraction is really necessary? I don't want to do anything that isn't..

Midnightstar76 · 23/09/2023 10:26

Took pup in for pre-op today and everything ok. Twice the size she was and in the healthy weight range. Now booked in for her spay in November which is best for her. She wasn’t happy when we first arrived but calmed down when other dogs arrived in the waiting room.

Riverlee · 23/09/2023 11:54

My dog is the exception to the rule when it comes to the rule when it comes to the vets - he loves it. The smells, other dogs, vet nurse, vets - he wants to say hello to everyone. It’s one big theme park to him.

userxx · 23/09/2023 12:34

Here's xxpup, love the bones of him but the biting is hard going! He's crate trained which has been a saviour to my sanity and ankles.
