BigBundleOfFluff · 06/05/2023 17:12

Awwww joshpup looks like a complete cuddle monster. Still looks like a tiny rottie, just gorgeous!

Orangebadger · 06/05/2023 21:26

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam awwww lovely Josh pup cuddles

@NoWordForFluffy lovely red fox pup 😍

@Sunflowers765 yes same, Orangepup is very chilled and lovely around the house unless she's tired then she's mouthy! It's mostly when out that she's a challenge.

Having said all that she's just gone bananas at at the back door, growling and barking into the garden. I look out, thinking there must be a cat or fox or the occasional frog we get, cannot see a thing! Finally on very close inspection I see a teeny tiny snail on the patio! 🙄😂 she's meant to be a scent hound but I swear she could be a sight hound sometimes! Anyway snail removed as we know how much she loves to gobble them up and she's happy again!

Can I join too please? HappyPup is a mongrel- we're not sure what as she and her siblings were a dump and run at a refuge. She's currently around 14 weeks and is estimated she'll be a small to medium mutt.
She's getting better every day but still has days when she's a total arse. Semi toilet-trained, in that she goes outside if we leave the door open (we're not in the uk) but still does pees in the house if not.
She's crate-trained and is currently waking me between 6 and 6.30 most days, which is a big improvement on her first month here. 🫣 We love her to bits, but she is exhausting. 😴

Midnightstar76 · 08/05/2023 06:19

@HappyHealthy23 she is adorable, lovely photo’s. I have just woken at 6.00 to let mine out for wee but she has started to fall asleep again so going to give it five then go back to bed myself. Fingers crossed this works would love a lie in this morning

userxx · 08/05/2023 14:49

Marking my place as I'll be stepping over to the darkside in approx 3 months. Yikes.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/05/2023 16:09

She's very cute, @HappyHealthy23! Some kind of terrier?

I had a lovely wet walk with FluffyPup this morning. He chose where we went for some of it (indicating to me that he wanted to go down his favourite alleyway, plus down certain roads), which is quite cute. He does love his walks though sometimes it's like being towed by a mini reindeer when he's off on one!. Hopefully he'll get more reliable at just walking along with me soon, as you can't predict if you're going to get the obedient dog or the loony dog right now! 🙈 🤦‍♀️

Here he is enjoying BBQ'd salmon yesterday. 😍

Even though I knew there was a new thread, I hadn’t posted anything so wasn’t getting all the updates. Lovely to meet all the new pups.

I have RiverPup, who had just turned ten months. He’s a lively and lovely (and frustrating), but is definantly easier than he was.

His current new trait is The Paddington Stare. He used to jump towards other dogs (cats and birds) wanting to play. Managed to reduce this trend, but now he just stares at them, and as we walk past said temptation, his head will twist around, fixated on his mark, a bit like an owl.

Riverlee · 08/05/2023 19:14

Meant to add a photo.

Aww happypup is adorable @HappyHealthy23 , looking forward to seeing her develop, my mongrel has changed loads in appearance since we got her.

@Orangebadger love the snail story ❤️🤣

@NoWordForFluffy fluffypuppy is gorgeous! Lucky pup getting bbq salmon! How old is he?

@Riverlee handsome lad 😍 sounds great progress with the other dogs (and birds! We have such a bird obsession here)

Luckypup has recently turned 5 months and is getting mouthier again. She nips me for attention, is this regular puppy behaviour or is the 1/4 border collie coming out? Also lies flat on the ground when she sees other dogs then approaches in a crouch position, again seems collie like but maybe is just normal behaviour 🤷‍♀️ - I'm slightly obsessed with breed traits as you would train the four breeds in her quite differently and I want to get it right.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 08/05/2023 19:27

Aww @Riverlee he is gorgeous ,he really is lovely 😍

NoWordForFluffy · 08/05/2023 19:39

@Luckycat1, he was 7 months yesterday! He is a handsome hound (good job, seeing as he's a bloody menace!).

He alternates between leaping at other dogs or doing the stare thing too. He sits down and just watches even if they're having a poo 😳. Sometimes (rarely), he'll wander past.

We also have a bird obsession. Pigeons and gulls are his targets. I've told him he'll come off worst against a gull, but he ignores me!

AboutTheDog · 09/05/2023 20:45

I have had AnkleBiter for just over a week. She is almost 12 weeks old. I last had a pup 16.5 years ago and I had completely forgotten how hard it is 😳.

She is crated and I know you aren’t supposed to put them in the crate when they are being naughty, but when she is naughty she is really, really, really naughty. It’s just like having a toddler really. About 30 seconds after putting her in the crate, she’s fast asleep.

Everything is going well, in spite of the constant biting, except that she has had loose stools since she came here. The breeder has been brilliant and we are sending stools off to a lab tomorrow to see what’s going on.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

CockapooMadness · 09/05/2023 21:08

Welcome to the new pups. We have a poorly pup on our hands tonight. Had a bit of diarrhoea on our mid afternoon walk which I didn’t think anything of as he was otherwise ok, but at 6.30pm the vomiting started along with another bout of diarrhoea. Not sure what’s caused it, but every time he moves after being laid down for a bit he starts licking his lips and I think he’s going to be sick again. He was last sick at 8.10pm so I’m hoping that’s the last of it. My plan is that as long as he’s stopped being sick to feed him white rice tomorrow and introduce his normal wet food on Thursday. Just wondering if there should be anything I need to be aware of with him being young (8.5 months) and does anybody have any experiences to share?

AboutTheDog · 09/05/2023 21:19

Oh that’s quite worrying. I’m sorry, I’ve really no idea and I hope someone more knowledgeable will be along soon. My insurance has a vet telephone helpline. Otherwise, I’d be phoning the vet.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 09/05/2023 21:24

Aww sorry to hear about the poorly dogs tonight hope they all feel better soon. Pookie puppy had her first training class tonight . I wasn't there , Husband and son took her . She enjoyed herself and made some new friends , so that is good although she didn't like the fact she had to have her tea later .Grin

BigBundleOfFluff · 09/05/2023 23:46

Well hello there riverpup. Still as handsome as ever @Riverlee !

@CockapooMadness . Sorry to hear pup isn't well. It's horrible when they are sick. Fluffpup has had the odd spell of diarrhoea or vomiting as she was awful at scranning stuff off the street. It always resolved itself with 24hours. Just before Xmas she had a prolonged spell. I didn't starve but I perhaps should have done. Every I fed came back up. I tried little snd often and as I love data - I did keep a diary of ins snd outs. After 48 hours I rang the vets and we went in to see them an hour later. They gave her an anti sickness injection and offered an ultrasound as I was worried about a blockage. We decided to wait until the next day for the ultrasound. That day she kept everything in but the next morning she was back to diarrhoea with blood now so we went for the ultrasound. It showed inflammation but no blockages. We put it down to a bug - that afternoon she kept everything down and she was fine.
If she's not fine tomorrow morning, I'd give the vet a call - if the same thing happens Fluffpup again I'll be calling the vet after 24 hours. My insurance covered it.
Hopefully tomorrow it will have resolved itself.

Riverlee · 10/05/2023 11:06

@CockapooMadness I hope poorly pup is better today.

Just a thought, if you want to speak to someone, does your pet insurance offer vet appointments? I’m with Manypets, and we can get free vet video calls.

Riverlee · 10/05/2023 11:07

Glad Pookie pup enjoyed first puppy class.

Beginningless · 10/05/2023 20:34

We have also had a fair bit of vomiting @CockapooMadness, it’s usually been short lived but like Fluff we had one more prolonged episode where there was blood in stools that led to more investigation. We ended up restricting him to one protein source (lamb, annoyingly as that was what his dry food was from birth) as chicken is commonly an irritant apparently. It took ages for stools to firm up again and we’re now introducing things a few weeks apart.

Anyhow when we’ve had one or two episodes of vomiting, we have avoided food for a few hrs and done plain rice or rice mixed with a bit of food, in smaller but more frequent meals. Hope Cockapup is better very soon!

Our latest thing is that he has started humping his bed…it freaks me out a bit as I don’t want him to start doing it to any of us!

CockapooMadness · 10/05/2023 20:57

Cockapup much better today. A bit more sleepier than usual, but he has eaten and kept it down. He turned his nose up at the rice I offered him so popped to the vets across the road and got him some gastrointestinal food which he ate. Still got diarrhoea but I’m hoping that clears up over the next few days.

@Beginningless Cockapup used to do this too, every night between 7.00-8.00pm to the point where I was called it humping hour. It lasted a few weeks and then he just stopped doing it one night.

BigBundleOfFluff · 10/05/2023 23:14

Glad he is feeling better - I forgot to mention something. I always have a tube of protexin kaolin paste in the house. The vet recommended that and some probiotics. It's pricey at the vets but can buy it on Amazon etc.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/05/2023 23:25

FluffyPup's guts have been way better since we started him on a daily probiotic. He was relatively sicky up to that point with rather soft stools.

Does anybody else have a digger? Dear god this dog loves to dig! 🙄🤣

Orangebadger · 11/05/2023 12:11

@NoWordForFluffy yes Orangepup loves to dig... our garden is full of holes!!

OP posts:
Riverlee · 11/05/2023 13:12

RiverPup used to dig holes in the gravel around the edge of the garden (which was only laid last year - note to self, don’t re-landscape garden prior to getting a dog!). However, we noticed recently that he hasn’t done this much recently. Never really dug on the grass, at least not with his paws. He did seem to did with his nose at times (and hence ‘muddy nose’ is one of several nicknames I give him).

Dh once said that they like to dig the same areas so always fill in holes, or they’ll dig there again. Not know if it’s true or not.
