@Cocopuff

Will have to look back to tag others as cannot remember all names.

Our other lab is now 2 but when she was a puppy she was in the garden and suddenly started hopping around and yelping - thought she'd broken her leg or something. Turns out she had some poo hanging out her bottom!

Less than 48 hours in and it's been fairly plain sailing so far (helped by very realistic expectations having been through it before!), settling in nicely

BigBundleOfFluff · 06/06/2023 19:47

Awww @tizwozliz another shiny black lab, she looks like she's smells delicious.

I had yelping the other day. I stood on the end of her tail by mistake! Was awful, felt so bad.

@Unluckycat1 . No frustration- she just doggedly gets every single bit out. Then licks every single compartment, just to make sure. She is ruled her belly though.

Riverlee · 06/06/2023 21:56

There’s nothing nicer than a sleeping lab (or two). It’s so relaxing.

Unluckycat1 · 06/06/2023 22:33

Aww @tizwozliz that's gorgeous, snuggled up together already 🥲

@BigBundleOfFluff how sweet, though goldies are known for being lovely calm dogs aren't they, I'm not sure if unluckypup would be as patient. Still, it's worth a try!

Orangebadger · 07/06/2023 07:22

@tizwozliz ahhhh gorgeous pup. Look lovely together.

My news... I managed to walk Orangepup off lead for the entire walk yesterday! Really good recall apart from 1 occasion when she met a friendly greyhound. To be fair as chuffed as I am, there wasn't much going on, but still she did great. However I am not holding my breath, I imagine next time I'll be totally ignored!

Gizlotsmum · 07/06/2023 11:32

That is amazing. I still don’t trust Gizlotspup off lead yet. His recall is fine unless anything else is going on!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/06/2023 12:19

FluffyPup is very firmly on a lead. He'd be off, never to be seen again if not. But we walk around the streets here, so the lead is essential.

He got to roam around the allotment yesterday though.

Riverlee · 07/06/2023 12:28

@Orangebadger Well done!!!

Britintheusa · 09/06/2023 01:40

New puppy mum to a 12 week old Cavalier King Charles girl. I know MN doesn't love the breed, but we did a ton of research and know the risks. We've had her 3 weeks now and it finally feels like the awful stress and regret is lifting. Lucky the snuggles are so amazing!

Cocopuff · 09/06/2023 05:05

Congrats @tizwozliz and @Britintheusa on your new pups. So cute!

well done @Orangebadger on the off lead walk - Coco is much better off lead too but most of our local parks require dogs to be kept on leads…

Cocopuff · 09/06/2023 05:08

Am getting a bit worried as have possible new job starting in the summer which requires me to be in the office 5 days a week (currently only in 2 days a week and have a sitter for coco which I can’t afford to do 5 days a week) - what do those of you who work in the office do with your dogs during the day? I really wouldn’t want to leave her alone for too long so it’s probably doggy daycare for Coco…

Cocopuff · 09/06/2023 05:09

Also spaying - does anyone have a pros and cons list of laparoscopic vs traditional spay? Trying to figure out which route to go down for Coco…

BigBundleOfFluff · 09/06/2023 08:22

Fluffpup had a lap spay. My choice as the vet said either option was fine. He recommended lap spay for very active dogs. Fluffpup isn't massively manic but I had the cash so I was happy. In terms of recovery - it was easy. She never licked or worried at her stitches and it was fine to keep her calm. I did try and stop her jumping on and off the sofa and she was very glum about the lack of tug or war play but it wasn't for long.

I 100% wfh but I do spend the odd day in the office. Regardless I've always used the doggy day care once a week - Fluffpup thrives in a group dog situation and they adore her. It's just me so daycare was my only option. I know it's much maligned here on Mumsnet but I love it and it's been great for her.

All the new pups look so adorable. It's making me broody!

BigBundleOfFluff · 09/06/2023 08:26

This is herself, taken just now, waiting for the dog bus. It's Friday and she knows she goes today!

@Cocopuff Orangepup is with a sitter one day a week when we are both at work, other days one is home. I imagine that will change to 2/3 times a week in a couple of years though! We are very lucky she is a neighbour and very cheap. I guess it will depend how long you will be out for? Ideally a dog sitter/ doggy day care but if not a dog walker twice a day? Do you have a friend who enjoys dogs who would have her 1 day a week?

@Britintheusa awwww she's gorgeous!
Did you post a thread a while back about choosing a breed? I recall some negatively about the breed 🙄 would not worry! There are so many wonderful breeds out there that many on MN hate! I met a gorgeous KIng Charles C yesterday on our walk, super cute, playful and friendly.

OP posts:
Orangebadger · 09/06/2023 09:34

@Cocopuff not sure about spaying but I would imagine the lap is better as less invasive but more costly.

@BigBundleOfFluff awww gorgeous fluff pup! I agree with doggy day care, orange pup loves going to the dog sitter, dog play all day!

Groutyonehereagain · 09/06/2023 09:34

We’re having our pup lap spayed. The vet told us it’s much better for the dog, as it’s not open surgery, they’re in less pain and they recover much more quickly. She said 24 hours and they are over it.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/06/2023 11:15

I like that there are more options for neutering these days. FluffyPup will be having a vasectomy rather than being castrated. Apparently it's a better decision for large breed dogs.

We have so many very attractive doggies on this thread. I want them all! 🙈🤣

Gizlotsmum · 09/06/2023 19:08

We are debating whether to get Gizlotspup done. He is a vulnerable breed with good breeding so has the potential to keep the breed going ( less than 250 registered with the kennel club last year) but he is a family pet and want to do what is best for him/us as well.

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 10/06/2023 16:04

Another black lab. Picked up on Sunday. Currently chewing absolutely everything. Especially my elbows.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/06/2023 16:05

Awwwww! ❤️

Is that a Highland coo in the crate?!

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 10/06/2023 16:08

@NoWordForFluffy yes it is! Crinkles and squeaks. Not sure how long he'll last as he's her favourite thing to chew on.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/06/2023 16:12

Probably as long as our lab's duckbilled platypus (ducky). I've sewn its head back on a few times now. Poor ducky! 😭😭

pookiedoodlepuppy · 10/06/2023 16:51

I thought it was just us who have sewn ducks back together , my previous dog was an unstuffer as well .

BigBundleOfFluff · 10/06/2023 19:02

I'm a sewer too! Fluffpup loves the destuffing experience
