Hope he is ok. It’s so hard.

Cocopuff · 03/06/2023 22:49

Yelping and biting lots sounds like pain @AmyyL - could well be teething. Speak to your vet - they may be able to recommend something for the pain. Having something in her crate pup can chew on might help too. I made sure night time toilet trips were super low key - no lights on and a petzel
to see my way, minimal talking then straight back in the crate and lights back out till morning

Cocopuff · 03/06/2023 22:51

@Southwest12 hope your puppy has a settled night and is home soon.

coco hates strawberries - bit of apply, cheese, watermelon, mango or melon is generally tolerated but she absolutely loves broccoli! Odd puppy

Midnightstar76 · 04/06/2023 08:35

@Doseydots very cute pic
With the warmer weather I am concerned my pup is not drinking enough and feel like I have to encourage her or she won’t drink. Anyone else? Or does anyone have any tips. She does have wet food mixed with kibble and we mix a bit of water with it in the morning.

Ice cubes go down well here! Loves crunching them!

Midnightstar76 · 04/06/2023 09:19

@NoWordForFluffy what a great idea! Going to get some sorted now.

Cocopuff · 04/06/2023 11:54

I’ve made bone broth ice cubes for coco - she loves them and has them when the rest of us are having an ice lolly or ice cream. She tried dog ice cream last weekend and liked it too

NoWordForFluffy · 04/06/2023 13:19

DH froze some natural yogurt onto a Licki Mat. FluffyPup appears to be a fan!

Aww @Southwest12 I hope bobpup is better and home today.

Unluckypup is six months old today. We went on a big greyhound and lurcher walk to celebrate. I think she only just qualifies as a lurcher (50%), but she loved it so we'll probably keep infiltrating.

I can't remember who mentioned biting, but she still bites on occasion. Very much overtired or overexcited play biting without aggression, but she's big so I'd love it to stop. I think maybe it's the lurcher in her, as they are mouthy players with each other. Twice now I've stopped a play session quickly as I could tell her play style is not compatible with the other dog's. It feels like there's always something to stress over 🙈😅 someone mentioned an off lead dog coming over. That's normal here (on a recent national trust walk 9/10 dogs were off lead - though not mine), and I previously thought it quite nice really as she loves saying hi (other than a couple of bad experiences) but now I think it is a big part of why unluckypup is so dog obsessed. If she doesn't get a play on a walk that's often when she gets overexcited and then bitey.

I've come to this thread very late but just looking for folk in same situation. I've just homed two lurcher pups. I've older sighthounds too but never had a pup! They're gorgeous but I'm a tad anxious.

Luckycat1 · 04/06/2023 16:07

@allabitmadtbf welcome! How old are they? Can we have a picture 😁

allabitmadtbf · 04/06/2023 16:13

Just turned 8 weeks. I'll try and get a decent pic next trip to the garden. They're a pair of smashers!

Gizlotsmum · 04/06/2023 16:22

So chew success here. A cows ear has lasted Gizlotspup 4 hours so far and is still going. Normally boredom has kicked in by now. It does mean he isn’t sleeping but we will hopefully get a good sleep tonight. He has also had our first attempt at a bath ( has been to groomers previously) which wasn’t a total disaster and he passed his bronze puppy class. Back to work tomorrow ( from home luckily) so am sure we will have the odd disaster!

pookiedoodlepuppy · 04/06/2023 18:33

@NoWordForFluffy That looks handy might try that , don't have lickymat thing (must be newish thing) lol

There's a few different designs. We have ones with square holes he has his meat on and I've ordered a few more of this 'dotty' style for freezing various things on.

He has his kibble in a snuffle mat or a Kong.

Our puppy trainer recommended giving food otherwise than in a bowl. Can't for the life of me recall why now though!

Southwest12 · 04/06/2023 18:50

Bob dog came home from the Vets this morning. He's slept alot, and wee'd for England thanks to the iv fluids but he's back to his normal self. The vet said it was some sort of toxin he'd eaten, so assuming he picked something up in the park that I didn't notice. £650 lighter, may claim on insurance but might just suck it up for now.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 04/06/2023 19:00

@NoWordForFluffy I'll definitely have a look at lickimats next visit to the pet shop, the frozen yogurt just looks like the thing .

Riverlee · 04/06/2023 19:02

Glad Bobpup is better.

Unlucky pup is such a unique looking dog (in a good way). I so want to meet him!

Got cheesed off with a dog owner yesterday, whose dog was off lead. Was walking through a park and horrid-dog (not on lead) after initial sniff, got all snarly. The owner said he doesn’t like dogs who are on lead. Then keep you (insert rude word) on a lead if you can’t keep it controlled, although I didn’t actually say anything (being too polite) but wished I had. Horrid dog definantly had small dog syndrome.

Riverlee · 04/06/2023 19:04

@pookiedoodlepuppy we’ve just brought our second lickiemat. First one was keeping RiverPup occupied for ages. Then realised he had eaten all the foodstuff and was in the process of destroying the mat! We’ve since brought a ‘tough lickie mat’ but not tried it yet.

BigBundleOfFluff · 04/06/2023 19:17

Fluff pup gets her entire dinner on this below. Honestly - no exaggeration, it takes her 30 mins to eat her dinner now.
I think trainers say to ditch the bowl to help with enrichment and something about dogs not liking being freeloaders? I just like as as I can have a tea in peace.

pookiedoodlepuppy · 04/06/2023 19:37

I'm definitely going to have a look at the new stuff , I'm a bit old school , I go down to the butchers for a marrowbone . I do have to say that my pup does like her butchers bones . On a hot day licking a marrow bone out of the fridge is a delight but I do have to put her on a towel though🙈 .

Missed being on this thread so found a reason to rejoin 😂
Settling in well so far

@tizwozliz An adorable reason to rejoin. Welcome back.

Unluckycat1 · 06/06/2023 11:20

@BigBundleOfFluff oooh I think we need one of those! Unluckypup eats her (much anticipated 😅) dinner in seconds. Does Fluffpup ever get frustrated with it?

@Southwest12 great news that bobpup made a swift recovery. Eating stuff outside is a worry, we've had chicken bones, chewing gum, cow and fox poo and human vomit eaten outside so far 🤢 I'm now obsessed with hemlock as it looks so similar to another plant (cow parsley?) that's everywhere atm.

@Riverlee I've had the same with an off-lead dog not liking Unluckypup, though the owner did at least apologise. Dog walks are so stressful sometimes.

Aw how cute @tizwozliz 😍 labs stay all puppyish and adorable for ages. I met a 5 month one yesterday who still looked like a proper puppy (esp compared to my 6 month beast)

Does anyone's pup ever scream? I've heard of the sighthound scream of death, but maybe other breeds do it too. Unluckypup has twice now stubbed her toe when running in the garden and screamed and yelped like she was caught in a bear trap, only to be fine a few minutes later. I've never heard anything like it.

Riverlee · 06/06/2023 11:38

No screaming, but definantly yelping.
