IDIOTS walking dogs in heat.

It's 34C where I am and idiots are walking dogs. Are these people totally stupid. My dog hasn't been for a walk since Friday due to the heat. I am shocked 😲 at the stupidity of some people.

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 18/07/2022 13:14

Dh took our dog out last night at 9pm to a lovely shady country park at the end of our road. The rest of the time he has just been pottering around the house & garden trying to fid a cool, shady spot.

Some idiot was walking a pug round the streets at 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

Lovelycheese · 18/07/2022 13:18

Yes people are indeed completely fucking stupid. Our dog won't be walked today or tomorrow.

SuperCamp · 18/07/2022 13:21

Why can’t they go out at 6am or 9pm?

Spudlet · 18/07/2022 13:21

We were out for a run at 5.45 this morning and it was still warm enough to make Spuddog2 pant a little (and me too!). He’s now sulking on the armchair about the cancellation of his lunchtime walk, but too bad - one of us will pop him out this evening when it’s cooler. And he’s a fit, lean, young dog - how an older, fatter, or flat-faced dog would manage I don’t know. Absolutely insane to even consider a daytime walk in such temperatures.

BellaGoth · 18/07/2022 13:23

My black lab isn't going anywhere (except from the sofa to the kitchen, when he decides he wants to lie on a hard, cold floor).
Sadly OP you are quite right - people are stupid.

StrangeCondition · 18/07/2022 13:25

It won't harm a dog not having a walk for a couple of days, that one walk could kill them though. Keep them in

twistyizzy · 18/07/2022 13:29

Yes they are fucking cockwits.

Iamclearlyamug · 18/07/2022 13:29

I live in a flat so have to take mine out otherwise he can't even pee. I put him in the car with the air conditioning on, drive to a local field which has plenty of shade and let him wander for 10 minutes to do his business and then we go home. Would never let him set foot on a pavement or anything in this heat, but without a garden I have to take him out.

And before anyone comes on moaning 'why did you get a dog without having a garden' he came with my OH when he moved in with me (his landlord sold his place and couldn't find anywhere else that would allow pets) so here we are 🤷‍♀️

wetotter · 18/07/2022 13:31

I have a fit, young, normal-snout dog who likes running with me. We've not run together for a few weeks already, and she's walked early morning (as are many of her dog friends) and maybe in the evening, mainly pottering in the shade.

I went out (without her) later this morning and saw a pug out by the shops. Now I know some people have to take their dogs out to toilet, so you do sometimes see ones out and about even at hotter times, but I did feel fearfully sorry for the poor thing

And I'm really hoping it was a necessary toilet walk, not ignorance putting a dog at risk

isthismylifenow · 18/07/2022 13:32

Thank goodness for your thread OP.

I have been going on about this on recent threads, now I can't post a reply to someone who had a go at me when I asked people to please change routines and don't walk your dogs in the day.... To be told I am lazy 🙄

I wanted to ask the poster to go and have a nice long walk barefoot on the road and see how she felt on her return. Pity I am not able to reply to her, but it just infuriates me.

I live in a hot country, and mentioned how previously I was slated for not walking my dogs every day. I have seen far too many burnt paws from tarmac for my liking, dehydrated dogs, and the list goes on. Yet people still don't get it.

I don't know what is going through peoples minds. "Oh the heat won't affect me, I love the sun, I am not changing my day for a sake of a bit of heat'. If only they would realize its not about them, but the poor animal.

Sadly I think the vets are going to be really busy this week.

SuperCamp · 18/07/2022 13:21

Why can’t they go out at 6am or 9pm?

It was 23 here at 6am and it'll be 31 at 9pm. You do know it's about the temperature not time of day don't you?

TattyBogart · 18/07/2022 13:34

I've put a big bowl of water near my gate as people are still walking dogs :(

Lovelycheese · 18/07/2022 13:35

If you live in a flat you really should have an option for them to pee during weather like this. We have a grass potty patch on the balcony so no need to walk anywhere

SummerLobelia · 18/07/2022 13:35

twistyizzy · 18/07/2022 13:29

Yes they are fucking cockwits.

This. I am not even going into details of the St Bernard I saw being walked yesterday on the way home from swimming so circa 13.00.

SummerL0ving · 18/07/2022 13:36

Not walking my dog since Friday would be over the top where I am.

He's been out Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7am. It's been cool at that time.

He will not be going out today or tomorrow as I think even 7am will be getting too hot. He will be in and out of the garden all day so should be absolutely fine. Not like he won't get any fresh air.

SummerLobelia · 18/07/2022 13:36

Oh and someone on our community page posted about two labradors being left in a car at Tesco yesterday only to be jumped on for being an interfering cunt.

I literally cannot believe the sheer stupidity of some people.

I mean I was swimming, not the dog.

Suzi888 · 18/07/2022 13:39

No chance will I walk my Lab in this heat, if it cools we go at 7/9pm depends on heat. He has a cooling mat, fan and can go in the pool. He has a bed on the balcony (3 storey house). We are shaded until 2pm ish. Frozen kongs, fresh water and I split his meals through the day. We both wfh so doors are open for him.

No one is judging you Iamclearly. We know not everyone has a garden and that is just how life is. It does not mean you cannot have a pet. I find pet owning 'rules' in UK very odd. People are so judgmental if you don't walk you dog, don't have a 50 foot garden. It isn't like this everywhere, honestly. But just from your post it is clear you have your pups best interest here. Why should you have to defend yourself because you live in a flat.

My dog loves the car, even more so when I roll down the window a little just enough for his snout and tongue to stick out.......... (I would roll it down all the way but he has tried to escape in that manner before lol). It does involve a clean up after all the way down the window...

Comefromaway · 18/07/2022 13:43

It was lovely and cool where I am at 9pm last night. As it was at 6am this morning.

Sally090807 · 18/07/2022 13:44

SuperCamp · 18/07/2022 13:21

Exactly 🙄

Lovelycheese · 18/07/2022 13:45

Sally090807 · 18/07/2022 13:44

Exactly 🙄

Tomorrow at 6am it's 27 here!! If it's 19 where you are great, that's different

WinterfellsStarbucksConcession · 18/07/2022 13:45

I took my German Shepard dog out at 5:30am this morning, it was so cool
I wore a sweatshirt. No reason why a dog can't go out early or late when it's hot. She'd miss her walk, when it's hot we do woodland walks.
Agree however that owners shouldn't be walking their dogs in the heat of the day particularly on pavements.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 18/07/2022 13:46

We went for a wander at 5:15 this morning. Never ever seen so many dog walkers out at that time! It was quite funny really. We the. Went home had some breakfast and went back to bed!
Not seen any dog walkers out during the day today. In fact there seems to be absolutely no one about! I went for a blood test at the hospital and the nurse said it was the quietest Monday she had ever known!

Comefromaway · 18/07/2022 13:46

I was also able to walk comfortably barefoot on our tarmac drive
