Ddog2 sneaks upstairs most nights, and gets up between dh and me - or snuggles up as close to me as she can get, if dh is away.

One night, dh was away, and ddog2 and I were woken up by the loudest thunder I have ever heard - ddog2 HATES thunder, and the only thing that comforted her was being right under the duvet, wrapped up as close to me as possible, until the thunder - and the trembling - stopped.

But our dogs are not spoiled. Ohhh no.

CarbyDiem · 03/10/2017 20:45

Nope.

Yes - allowed on every piece of furniture in the house really. Sleeps on our bed. I grew up with a dog who stayed in her bed in the kitchen. Really don't recognise myself sometimes.

nodogsinthebedroom · 03/10/2017 20:48

No dogs on the sofa!

Whenever he wants. Not beds tho but only cos he doesn't settle upstairs and paces about the landing getting on my tits

yetwig · 03/10/2017 21:29

yes :) but not on beds as too old to jump on now.

One hairy dog and one not so hairy but on a leather sofa so we can wipe clean :)

Headinthedrawer · 04/10/2017 07:57

Yes, we put a throw down where she sits

CatastropheKate · 04/10/2017 08:12

Nope. Spends a lot of time outside so often a bit damp and stinky. Occasionally when everyone else has gone to bed and he's dry and fragrant I ask him to snuggle up for a foot warmer. Very occasionally he'll 'ask' to come up as soon as dh is up the stairs. Leather sofa only though.

Fabellini · 04/10/2017 08:20

Our old man has to be lifted up due to his arthritis, so he's on the sofa only when we facilitate it......but he's so cuddly we facilitate it a lot!

Yes he's part of the family too. And he's warm and snugly.

Yes and actively encouraged but prefers the floor Sad

sparechange · 04/10/2017 10:36

zobalina
He looks so content and happy in that pic!
It would take a heart of stone to move such a sleepy pup...

Athrawes · 04/10/2017 10:48

No never. That's not their place. Cuddles can happen on the floor. Sofa and beds are for humans who are higher in the pack order than dogs. Humans go through the door first too, visitors ahead of regulars then dog. The dog weighs 45kg and has lots of teeth; she needs to know her place if she is to be safe.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/10/2017 10:53

That's such nonsense, Athrawes.

mydogisthebest · 04/10/2017 11:09

Athrawes, dog trainers, behaviourists and experts no longer believe in the pack theory.

Allowing a dog on the sofa does not mean they are going to take over the house or become vicious.

Sandycarrots · 04/10/2017 11:11

This must be my favourite thread of all time!

BestIsWest · 04/10/2017 11:15

The puppy has made it onto the sofa this morning. There’ll be no stopping them now.

Flippetydip · 04/10/2017 11:18

Yes, but we have two and she's only allowed on the one with the throw. She's never tried to come upstairs which is great because I wouldn't want her on the beds.

No.
can't stand dogs on sofas.
lovely warm carpet
rug in front of fire
snuggly bed.

or, asleep with head on my foot

sparechange · 04/10/2017 11:23

Athrawes

That has been debunked for so long, and by so many people

You don't know as much about dogs as you think you do

steppemum · 04/10/2017 11:26

mind you, cat sleeps on the sofa....

LadyinCement · 04/10/2017 11:28

I've really enjoyed the pictures!

Dog was allowed on sofa, but we have had to get a new one and he is not allowed on that (yet). I have made him a lovely nest on the floor, however, with many cushions and a fleece.

Reason for dumping old sofa is that I was beginning to realise that it stank. A big, hairy, damp dog drooling and farting on the sofa every day ensured that no one else wanted to sit on it. The moisture penetrated through covers, everything. I have placed shiny magazines along new sofa to discourage dog, and so far so(fa) good!
