Yes to old leather sofas, no to newer fabric ones. Pup seems to have worked this out.

JigglyTuff · 03/10/2017 16:06

Yes but only when clean and dry. He waits in the porch to have his paws/coat wiped before he's allowed in the house full stop. Sadly I haven't managed to train the cat to do that

Floralnomad · 03/10/2017 16:07

Our dog sleeps wherever he likes , all the chairs and sofas have throws and he is very short haired , rarely moults and is clean . He is also allowed on beds .

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 03/10/2017 16:12

No he is too big there would be no room left.

CMOTDibbler · 03/10/2017 16:16

Yes, we have leather sofas which are a bit battered now so are covered in large fleeces. All 3 current dogs with us are lurchers so not small (one is stretched out on the 3 seater at the moment and touches both ends) but are happy to curl up in order to share

ButFirstTea · 03/10/2017 16:32

Yep of course, but we do have a blanket over it. He doesn't shed if that makes a difference (and we wouldn't let him up there with muddy or wet feet).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/10/2017 16:36

Yes , but on their sofa, not ours. People said it would never work and they wouldn't know the difference, but they do, they stick to theirs.

GinGeum · 03/10/2017 16:49

Dog 1 is allowed on sofa whenever he likes always

Dog 2 is allowed on there in theory, but she is very bossy and needs more boundaries than laid back Dog 1. So she has to be invited up. She also has a tendency to guard me from Dog 1 or DP when we're on the sofa together, so she gets booted off if she starts that as well.

BestIsWest · 03/10/2017 16:51

You what?

GinGeum · 03/10/2017 16:52

We don't put any blankets or anything on the sofa, I just hoover it once a week. Dog 1 rests his chin on the edge of the chair to ask to come up, so if he's wet/muddy/smelly then he's told to go on his bed instead.

(Half the time DP is muddier than the rest of us put together and I can't stop him coming on the sofa, so the two dogs seem positively hygienic compared to him Wink)

BlueKarou · 03/10/2017 16:53

Yes. Otherwise I'd be tripping over them! Not to mention that the cats go on the sofas, so it wouldn't exactly be fair if the dogs were banished to the floor.

tabulahrasa · 03/10/2017 16:56

I have a very strict no dog on the sofa rule...only, I'm the only one that follows it, so, it's more of a dog all over the sofa unless tab is in the room rule Hmm

No. Dogs should be at your feet not on the same level as you. So no to sofas and a big no to beds.

MrsWooster · 03/10/2017 17:04

Love having my dog on the sofa for cuddles

GinGeum · 03/10/2017 17:11

Life would be very boring without this Wink

As the saying goes...'Get a Whippet & lose a sofa'.

I don't mind, she is very clean and non shedding on our leather sofa- I love it when she snuggles up next to me & then stretches her paw onto my leg like a little whippy cuddle.

IratusCats · 03/10/2017 17:21

No, he’s got his own raised bed.

BLUEsNewSpringWatch · 03/10/2017 17:41

falange do you mind me asking why you feel dogs "should be at your feet not on the same level as you"?

exexpat · 03/10/2017 17:45

There are two sofas he is allowed on (old leather ones which now smell very doggy), and two sofas he is not allowed on (newer fabric-covered ones). He knows the difference and (usually) follows the rules. He also knows he is not allowed upstairs.

Pombliboo123 · 03/10/2017 17:52

Of course. Supposed to be on the blanket but generally ignore that rule.

Since I moved into a flat on my own they also sleep ok n bed with me Grin they both get groomed every 4 weeks and aren't smelly dogs and it makes me sleep better than being alone.

(I was trying to get them both to look at the camera but the little one just decided to bound over so she's blurry)

pontiouspilates · 03/10/2017 17:56

No here, but I reckon he gets invited up when I'm not around!

fleshmarketclose · 03/10/2017 17:59

Yes Eric is allowed on the sofa. I did say he wouldn't be going on the sofa but he jumped up when he was twelve weeks old and seemed so pleased with himself that it would have felt mean not to let him. I'm waiting for our new sofa to be delivered having already sold the old one and he actually cried when he realised that he'd have to be on the floor.

mydogisthebest · 03/10/2017 18:00

Yes my two dogs are allowed on the sofas. All my previous dogs were too.

Always had a non shedding breed and they live in the house too so why not?

I love them snuggling up to me or laying full length on their backs with their head on my lap
