Why are you awake?

My DS is 2 years 3 months, and he just started sleeping through the night yesterday. In his bed! But what am I doing? I am awake checking up on him if everything is ok 🫠🤦🏻‍♀️

I am also 15 weeks pregnant with #2, and you'd think my body would know by now that uninterrupted night is a gold dust in this parenting world and would just fall asleep, but noooo... Here I am lying awake, thinking about most random conversations I had 10 years ago.
Why are you awake?

Travelled late, take a while to wind down for sleep but I'd have been asleep an hour and a half ago if I wasn't on my phone!

I am awake because every time I am having a rough day and decide to let my toddler watch (he had 1 hour 30 mins total all day) and not go out to run around all day he rewards me by being awake from 12-4am .

Northernsoul90 · 10/02/2023 03:34

My 18 month old DD is unwell with a virus so she's been up since 2... I'm just sat watching the monitor hoping that she goes back to sleep after putting her back down 🤞🤞

It's hard to relax sometimes isn't it, I often lie awake anticipating the wake up especially when they are teething or unwell!

An1ta · 10/02/2023 03:40

I'm 39+2 weeks pregnant with debilitating hip pain and general discomfort. I don't get sleep at all I only nap and weirdly wake up around the same time every night around 03:30am.
It will take a bit of time for u to get used to a new sleeping routine. I'd probably create my own once the baby is asleep. Have a bath, cup of tea or read a book.

I’m peri menopausal and find myself waking between 2.50 and 3.10am every night. It’s worse when I’m anxious and I’ve a lot on my mind at the moment - silly things that in the light of day won’t seem so worrisome but I catastrophise about everything in the small hours, thinking the worst outcome.

I’ll go back to sleep for an hour or so about 5am - I’m constantly knackered

Munches · 10/02/2023 03:43

I have an anxiety disorder that does not allow me to sleep as I am awake worrying.
I also feel like shit physically- aching bones, sore throat etc. Just took some paracetamol to help.
I am also peri menopausal.

It’s a delight 🙄

The dog wants to play with his tennis ball Confused

Feeding baby, my eyes are stinging ha

UsernameNotPresent · 10/02/2023 03:47

@007DoubleOSeven oh the phones. I had all the intentions of cutting the habit, even put a book on my bedside table, and a small reading light. Nope, still on my phone 😬
@An1ta I remember those last few weeks of pregnancy, feeling like a whale with sore hips. I also remember my irrational rage when someo would pitch up with 'sleep now before baby comes', like, I am trying mate, I really am, but I JUST CAN'T.
@happynewyear55 I have love/hate relationship with cocomelon for precisely this reason! @Northernsoul90 hope little one gets better soon

I wish someone would just invent a mind switch for the nights. You flick the switch, and it stops spinning and dragging up random crap at inappropriate times.

@Munches and @Honeymoone I am up and listening if you want to unload any worries.

I’ve recently started a new job and haven’t been trained very well so am muddling through and finding it more stressful than it should be.

Plus I’m feeling a bit dodgy, there’s a tummy bug going around at DCs school. 😱

babynoname22 · 10/02/2023 03:53

Because my three year old has just made an appearance. I thought it was my husband coming in off night. No small pattering feet suggested otherwise. Back to bed little one!

hellosunshineagainxxx · 10/02/2023 03:53

Because I'm 34 weeks pregnant. Got a full on day with the preschooler tomorrow as well who will get up in about an hour 😭

babynoname22 · 10/02/2023 03:56

@happynewyear55 I'm sorry you've had a rough night. My DD used to do split nights too. 11-4. It was torture. You have my sympathies

Cassy92 · 10/02/2023 03:57

I'm awake because I had a row with DH at 7pm this evening. I took myself off to the bedroom and wound up falling asleep. So I've slept from 7pm to midnight, woken up and now wide awake.

Now I can't sleep because I'm upset and feeling like my marriage is terrible! And plus I'm hanging around MN! Haha.

ohlalalalalalalalala · 10/02/2023 04:16

Waiting to test my daughters blood sugar again so I can treat the inevitable hypo and get some sleep!

WhenAGrapeIsBorn · 10/02/2023 04:19

Covid for the third time and am feeling dreadful. Too hot, too cold, aching joints, coughing, sneezing you name it. Hopefully I'll get some sleep soon

Sodullincomparison · 10/02/2023 04:22

@Honeymoone Snap!!!

hoping this HRT might result in a full night’s sleep one day.

I’m still awake though as my boss is overseas and saw that I was online and he is very bored as he is the only one awake in his time zone so sending lots of feedback from meetings though.

Commonsensitivity · 10/02/2023 04:24

Left Internet on so had to go down and switch it off (get paranoid about leaving it on all night). Pizza repeating on me and just saw on Facebook that an acquaintance went to a show I wanted to go to and I forgot about (rock orchestra) so feeling bit sorry for self.
Also worried about strikes in my sector, and ongoing impact. Also worried about my youngest DC who is having a tough time in school atm 😓

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 10/02/2023 04:26

Feel shocking. I have a horrendous cold and haven't been able to sleep for days.
Been back at work a week after maternity leave and they're so unsupportive it's praying on my mind constantly.
At least my baby is sleeping through his cold for the first time in days and it's nice not to hear his constant chesty cough.

The earliest I can start working from home is 6am so will probably fall asleep at 5:55am for a couple of hours and end up having to work late 😄

yvonneb13 · 10/02/2023 04:27

38+ 4 days pregnant and the insomnia is REAL

GladysPew · 10/02/2023 04:29

My lovely friend is terminally ill and I cannot stop thinking about her. I have been waking in the night for weeks and I am so sad for her.
