Why are you awake?

My DS is 2 years 3 months, and he just started sleeping through the night yesterday. In his bed! But what am I doing? I am awake checking up on him if everything is ok 🫠🤦🏻‍♀️

I am also 15 weeks pregnant with #2, and you'd think my body would know by now that uninterrupted night is a gold dust in this parenting world and would just fall asleep, but noooo... Here I am lying awake, thinking about most random conversations I had 10 years ago.
Why are you awake?

Bloody palms of hands and soles are burning and itchy. Bloody hormones!

The cat started the usual after dinner nonsense of diving about, waking and disturbing my child who struggles with sleep. Now the 🤬 cat is happily grooming between naps, child is wide awake 😫 and currently coughing and sneezing for good measure 😫😫

3rd night shift in a row, starting to flake now. Only 4 hours to go, then my bed will be calling me.

MagicMatilda · 11/02/2023 04:20

Full of cold!! Haven’t slept one wink yet

Nobodytellsmenothin · 11/02/2023 04:41

Can’t sleep and haven’t for over a week now. 39 weeks pregnant with first baby and hubby was made redundant last week. Very scared and worried, we have managed to borrow money from family to pay a debt to our builder but of course that debt now needs to be paid back to family. Can’t sleep, incredibly stressed and lay awake crying. I don’t see any answers or outcomes and I’m genuinely terrified. No answers really I guess but glad to get it off my chest as I hate to burden hubby with the worries too. He has no problem sleeping but I’m glad of that, I would hate for him to worry and stress too.

Flashbacks. Taking me right back to a time something bad happened. Feel too unsafe to be in my bed. Camped out on sofa instead, longing for the dawn.

Hi fellow night owls (intentional and unintentional alike).

I'm on night 3 of almost no sleep due to palpitations which kick off as soon as I lie down for some odd reason. So I am currently propped up on many pillows and awake again after a couple of hours sleep. I wish I knew why they were happing as they frighten the bejesus out of me. Possibly as I'm currently anemic, possibly stomach issues (probably a bit of both).

PurplePositivity · 11/02/2023 04:51

Woke up for a drink, DS18 has just walked in I had a feeling he wasn't here. He's brought a mate back, no idea where they've been until this time Hmm

Have you tried slow feel breaths when it happens. If you're frightened of the palpitations, you're just going to keep them going through the fear.

I know @FenghuangHoyan - I'm probably in a vicious cycle at the moment. Trying to be less anxiety ridden and more matter-of-fact about them - it's tough when there's so many.

FenghuangHoyan · 11/02/2023 08:03

@inigomontoyahwillcox (nice name by the way). I know what you mean. I suffer from anxiety. You have to break the circle of emotions, thoughts and physical symptoms. Deep breathing calms the body down and that calms the symptoms which calms the thoughts.

Easier said than done and it takes time, but it gives you something to focus on target than your chest cavity.

Kate8990 · 12/02/2023 01:01

I've been riddled with anxiety for about a year, sometimes mild sometimes full blown panic attacks. Trying to switch off is a chore. Was taking CBD but I'm trying to come off it and cope on my own. I don't want to be reliant on them. Anyway same as usual, my chest feels heavy but just trying to relax watch YT vids.

My 3yo, who had a serious health condition woke with an almighty meltdown at 10pm. Effort she stopped screaming after an hour, she's still awake. Urgh.

Her condition causes fatigue, so if her energy levels arent paced enough she becomes overwhelmed, then she had meltdowns and tricks sleep, which in turn makes her tired and overwhelmed and the cycle continues.

My husband is in Critical care and has been since Monday. Due to a medical blunder. We should never have ended up in this position. We thought things were improving but now he has gone rapidly downhill.

LemonSwan · 12/02/2023 01:57

My boy started sleeping through the night a couple of weeks back. Before that he was waking 2 hourly for months. So I split the night, would stay awake till about 3 then I only had to wake up once or twice before DP got up and looked after him in the morning when I could get an uninterrupted deep sleep stretch.

And now he’s sleeping 8-8, Im chronically overtired so much I am running on adrenaline still and my body clocks fucked!! 🤦‍♀️

Don’t know how to make it go back

Going to sound weird but your not laying on your left side are you?

If so the vagal nerve can send abnormal signals when you lie on your left. Quick fix is lie on your right instead.

So sorry whowhatwhere 😞

I'm up with a bout of tonsillitis, can barely swallow 😩

whoisjoe · 12/02/2023 02:39

Sending virtual hugs to all those struggling tonight 💐
Recently diagnosed with breast cancer at 34. I think it’s the hormone suppressor Tamoxifen to blame - feel hot, itchy, anxious and overthinking. Cats are keeping me company. Off to put on my eye mask with built in Bluetooth speakers .. it helps sometimes!
p.s Where are the tamoxifen threads? 😂

Appleskypietoday · 12/02/2023 04:03

Menopausal. The top half of me is boiling and the bottom half freezing.
I seem to go through periods of insomnia.
I've finished my book and read the internet.

Sorry to everyone who is experiencing trauma. Also to anyone pregnant - I had a lot of pregnancy insomnia.
