Why are you awake?

My DS is 2 years 3 months, and he just started sleeping through the night yesterday. In his bed! But what am I doing? I am awake checking up on him if everything is ok 🫠🤦🏻‍♀️

I am also 15 weeks pregnant with #2, and you'd think my body would know by now that uninterrupted night is a gold dust in this parenting world and would just fall asleep, but noooo... Here I am lying awake, thinking about most random conversations I had 10 years ago.
Why are you awake?

I did @CuriousMama - and went and had an ecg yesterday, which showed nothing as I didn't have any during the 15 seconds or so they do the reading for (sods law), bloods were OK too. Need to follow up with my GP, but that's going to take a while.

They should get you to wear a 24 hour machine shouldn't they? I hope you get seen asap. Is there a practice nurse you can maybe see sooner?

I'm awake with an UTI.....peeing blood and it feels like razor blades. Going to the bathroom every five minutes....am contemplating wrapping a duvet round me and just staying there. The out of hours doctor left me out antibiotics, started them around midnight and I'm praying they kick in soon! 😓

That sounds awful - you're peeing blood? It's a humdinger of an infection by the sounds of it.).

I remember the days of UTIs (used to get loads in my 20s) and they are just horrific. The only thing that gave me any relief whilst I was waiting for the antibiotics to kick in was to drink a mixture of water and milk (yes, I know, eugh), and a hot water bottle.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 13/02/2023 05:04

@CuriousMama i agree, I want them to be checked out and unless I camp out in A&E (which I have no intention of doing - I really didn't want to go in yesterday tbh) they aren't going to get picked up unless they do a 24 hour monitor. The practice nurse is actually a friend of mine - I usually actively avoid being treated by her (last thing either of us want if for her to do my smear test, for example!) but maybe I need to take advantage of me knowing her just this once.

Definitely tell her. Best wishes.

JeanMarie · 13/02/2023 05:28

@inigomontoyahwillcox Must admit I'm not too keen on the water and milk but at this stage I'll take anything! I'm unfortunately prone to UTI's....had tests a while ago and they've ruled out anything sinister. Apparently it's because of vaginal atrophy....deep joy. Menopause....the gift that keeps on giving.😡

Raindancer411 · 13/02/2023 06:30

Awake as my dog who had a heart issue just had a funny turn. She is in her bed asleep currently but I cannot get back to sleep and it's set off my anxiety and palpations...

TheExistentialistCafé · 13/02/2023 06:41

Bloody jet lag. I usually adapt very quickly, but not this time. Then of course, if there was a switch to turn off the brain and stop thinking, that would also help.

I recently had a nasty uti, I found a hot, wet flannel pressed against my vulva helped sooth the discomfort.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 13/02/2023 09:19

Hope you're feeling better today @JeanMarie, and hope everyone gets a good nights sleep tonight. I hope I don't see you again tonight.

JeanMarie · 13/02/2023 10:52

@inigomontoyahwillcox Thank you. I'm feeling a bit better. Been drinking loads of water and managed to sleep for an hour or so. I'm an insomniac so I'm used to being awake in the wee small hours.....not in bloody agony though!

@DuchessOfDisco I'm going to try the warm flannel. Only bit of relief I got through the night was pouring a jug of tepid water over my vulva while I peed.

Covid for the third time and am feeling dreadful. Too hot, too cold, aching joints, coughing, sneezing you name it. Hopefully I'll get some sleep soon

Oh god, me too - all of that. Hope that you feel better soon. I’m feeling like I could go to sleep, but when I lie down, it’s all so much worse. Hate covid so much.

GodspeedJune · 14/02/2023 01:29

I’ve got a horrible cold, all congested and throat feels like razor blades. I imagine I’ll drop off just before DD wakes for a feed. Annoyed at DP for snoring and giving us the rotten cold. Happy Valentines!

FenghuangHoyan · 14/02/2023 02:14

Anxiety again following my body washing me up for the loo as I've reached an age where that happens.

UsernameNotPresent · 14/02/2023 02:20

@Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals and @GodspeedJune I hope you feel better soon.
It looks like my insomnia strikes again, tonight brought to you by terrible mum guilt.

I have been a rubbish mum yesterday. Life is so full on at the moment, we are moving house, I am working long hours full time but in the middle of applying for a dream job/prepping for interviews, doing a course on top of that, plus I am pregnant, 'D'H is being pissy because he is stressed with houses move. I let DS watch too many cartoons after nursery last night, then he had an almighty tantrum come bedtime (which was later that usual), and I ended up having a tantrum of my own. I said things to him I wish I didn't, like I was going to throw away his favourite hat, that I will keep him in nursery full time when on mat leave, and that I am fed up of him 😥 He is 2. He got got upset and was saying 'mummy, mummy, and trying to give me kisses. Broke my heart. What kind of mother does that. I apologised to him and we had a cuddle, but goodness me, I still feel rotten about it.

@FenghuangHoyan cross post! Anxiety is pants. Sending strength and sleepy vibes.

And to you.

You have a lot on and you're only human, so you can expect to not be at your best all the time. That doesn't make the world's worst mum, it makes your a human.

Ref the cartoons, I noticed mood swings with our kids after too long on screens, so we've stopped that now. It was really noticeable, so much so that they noticed it.

Anyway, your not a rubbish mum. If you were, you'd not be here and upset about it. Give yourself a break and get some sleep, your son is probably fast asleep and not thinking about yesterday, so you should be too.

Goodnight and sleep well and have a better day tomorrow x

UsernameNotPresent · 14/02/2023 02:38

Thank you @FenghuangHoyan I really needed to hear that.
I hope you manage to get some rest tonight! X

First night on holiday and I feel like shite. My Dad passed away on Friday and I don't particularly want to be here, but we thought it was better than moping around the house with the kids on half term. Plus we'd lose a lot of money if we cancelled.

Anyway, toddler has a sickness bug and I've felt rough for the last 2 nights so I'm assuming I'm getting it.

This bed sucks and I miss my own. Can't stop thinking about my dad and the activities planned for tomorrow that I don't have the energy for.

Sorry, very ranty and first world problems, I know.

Had an op on my finger yesterday….it’s throbbing with pain. Just been up to get some paracetamol.

Zola1 · 14/02/2023 03:52

Decided 9pm was a great time to just 'have a quick look at' a massive report I needed to write for work. Accidentally hit my stride writing and when I looked up it was 3am but I was almost done 🙃🥴 finished about 10 min ago but wide awake now and the alarm is in 3 hours

Itisbetter · 14/02/2023 04:01

I’m awake with flu. It’s been a week and I feel better sat up but oh I am so tired.

SpringIntoChaos · 14/02/2023 04:04

Woke up at 2:15 for a wee...still awake at 4am as couldn't go back to sleep. I'm now REALLY hungry! Do I go and make some toast and then try and get a bit of kip...or lie here hungry? 😨

Ouch! But I guess it feels good to have it out the way? I hope you have a restful day today 🙂

I have insomnia/broken sleep, have done since I was about 12... can take me hours to fall asleep (on occasion I just don't at all) and then sleep like a newborn when I do, awake every couple of hours 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've always said I sleep in shifts.
