The trailer has just been released and I can’t wait!

It’s probably my favourite programme atm so it’s a shame it’s ending but I’d rather that than it getting repetitive and dragged out.

And now we see how S4, Ep1 laid the groundwork. How swiftly has Kerry fallen from almost-greatness - and how badly I wanted ‘Bridget Randomfuck’ to somehow have witnessed it.

Kerry’s bag was less capacious - but I did wonder what Roman might spy amongst all the little bottles scattered across the floor. A pregnancy test or scan photo would have been an instant hit, given Shiv’s news.

And remember her moment of even-amongst-Roys unusual hauteur last week, when she rebuffed Greg for touching her sleeve? Today again she found being touched insupportable - we’re surely supposed to read that as a manifestation of … hyper-protectiveness towards her new physical self, even while she rages against having no control in her outside world?

It was all so much fun - an infinite number of things to relish and cogitate over!

slamfightbrightlight · 17/04/2023 22:37

“Screwups and dipshits” had me howling and the whole scene between Gerri, Frank, Karl and Tom. So, so well done.

2023usernameNew · 18/04/2023 07:15

morning!

about the note…

i personally think the name was underlined,
only because the line started under the name and ended up going up, could have been old man’s hands. I think if you’re crossing something out, you directly start in the middle (obviously, this is just how I think I would do it)

I think we’ve also seen Logan with a devil-ish smirk after being screwed over by Ken (like on the yatch at the end of season 2?) I believe deep down he saw it as Ken having the guts to run the business.

finally, would someone like Logan type and print the note himself (imagine him trying to connect the laptop to the printer 😂). If I was Ken I would have a gentle, long talk with Kerry.

2023usernameNew · 18/04/2023 07:17

Also, I see lots of crime shows but it was Marcia delivering the ‘intimate talks’ line that truly sent a shiver down my spine…

Yes! Excellent observation.

Tom was absolutely peak slimeball in this episode, "I'm just here to serve", awful. And trying to reignite happy memories with Shiv, and how quickly he betrayed his ally by revealing intimate details of his death to Greg.

Shiv's frustration and ultimately distrust with her brothers during the discussion about who would lead the company was palpable. Such good acting.

I saw on Reddit that people have screenshot the piece of paper. It reads:

Anyone think this suggests that Connor’s mother is still alive? Do you think we might find out what happened to Rose?

OP posts:
JaneFondue · 18/04/2023 09:06

OMG what a fantastic episode. Peak acting by Kieran C as always, but also Matthew M switching between obsequious toady to wisecracking fratboy with Greg! Brilliant.

Shiv is going to get screwed over but honestly she is the least competent of the lot. A lot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

I hope they don't leave the Rose storyline hanging.

I agree, I always thought that was a smirk of approval/recognition at Kendall being as much of an 'old bastard' as Logan himself. Kendall has always seemed hell-bent on alienating himself from his family and self-destructing as much as possible.

So much delicious awfulness in one episode. Marcia was magnificently regal and glacial: 'She can get the subway and go back to her little apartment.' Grin The siblings all trying to second-guess and out-manoeuvre each other while clearly still shocked and grieving. Matsson suddenly being unavailable and the impossibility of him leaving the sacred 'annual retreat' to talk to them. He's got them on a string.

I also wondered why the lingering shot of the contents of Kerry's bag. Just to show the 'mess' of her life and emotions now? Or more significant?

I always thought Connor's mother was still alive. I think she'll come back in some way.
Willa was a bit imperious, striding around talking about how she'd improve the apartment. I wouldn't be surprised if that deal blows up in her and Connor's face, although I'm not sure how.

Connor seems to have been burning through money, and last series was after more from Logan. He may end up without anything.

I think Kendall showed that he really is ‘a killer’. On the surface Roman seems like the biggest arsehole but then he has moments of humanity far more than the others

I’m also curious about what Shiv had been going through when she met Tom, in some ways it’s always seemed an odd pairing but we got a little insight last night that he must have been a stabilising influence through a personal crisis.

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 18/04/2023 09:45

Roman was certainly the only one who showed any kindness to Kerry. He is more vulnerable than the others, I think, in the sense that he lets more humanity show.
Agree about Tom and Shiv, I've always wondered how and why they got together and that was a fascinating hint.
Think you're right about Connor; Marcia will show no mercy about the apartment deal, so if he can't afford it/tries to delay or bargain, she'll just pull the rug.

JaneFondue · 18/04/2023 09:46

Roman is a puppy dog under that " fuckity fuck fuck" exterior. Kendal is a stone cold killer, as seen in the last scene where he blackmailed Hugo into throwing dead Logan under the bus.

Game recognises game, hence Logan's letter.

MayIDestroyYou · 18/04/2023 10:13

No sight of Grandpa Ewan at the wake? It’s bad news if he’s been written out; he’s still my favourite character.

Doesn’t he have shares in the company - I’ve forgotten?

Yes and Greg mentioned him having a vote at the board meeting. Historically he always seemed to back Logan despite not liking him. He’s an unknown quantity now.

OP posts:
MarkWithaC · 18/04/2023 10:25

Surely Ewan will have to come back, as a shareholder and board member?

MayIDestroyYou · 18/04/2023 10:30

I’m also curious about the Logan / Marcia apartment. I would have assumed that Marcia would have it for life and it would then pass on to Logan’s children - whether one or all. It seemed extremely odd to me that Connor would find it necessary to buy his own father’s property.

And it’s true, Willa loudly exclaiming about how she would alter the decor - a very rare mis-step in the generally outstanding writing. There’s been absolutely no indication that she is in any way neuro-divergent - it’s inconceivable that anyone would be so crass, in the dead man’s home, in the presence of his wife.

tribpot · 18/04/2023 10:31

That wasn't really the wake. It's still only the day after Logan's death, Ewan will presumably travel for Logan's funeral. Greg mentioned his grandpa being at the board meeting (on the phone) so I think he does still have shares in the company.

Lots to say about this episode, it was a brutal one. But when Frank and Karl are first talking about Logan's letter one of them (Frank?) says "we're not going to let that little princess block things, are we?". I thought he was referring to Kerry and that potentially there had been something written about her in pencil which they and Gerri had rubbed out before showing the document to anyone else. However, you get quite a clear shot of the document as one hands it to the other and there doesn't seem to be anything else on it. So who is the little princess? Is it Logan? They are understandably concerned about handing control of the company to the people who tried to undermine the deal and sent Logan back to the negotiating table, leading to his death (as Shiv clearly feels it).

Marcia on absolutely top form in this episode - good for Willa saying "to the both of us" when Marcia tried to crush her by pointing out how far she'd risen.

I did wonder about Connor spending 63 million dollars so freely when he seems to have been perpetually 'broke' by Roy standards, I'm assuming that he's inherited a shedload of cash - and Marcia must have inherited the apartment, and hence why they could do their deal (although clearly the will hasn't been executed yet).

Shiv's fall - I really hope that doesn't lead to a miscarriage as it would be far too cliched. However, what I think it will do is frighten her about her physical vulnerability. Tom's story seems creepy as all hell - he seems to have hunted her down when she was in some kind of crisis, the main thing he can remember is that she was wearing a fine silk shirt (gak) and that she 'eventually' said she liked his arm around her (after he had asked repeatedly).

Maybe Marcia negotiated getting it as part of her deal to return 'publicly' to Logan after his affair with the Holly Hunter character?
And even if not, I wouldn't be surprised if it was set up to pass to someone else; Logan is the type not to pass things on out of spite/for the hell of it/for tax purposes, like his paintings!

Mydoghealsmyheart · 18/04/2023 10:59

Does anyone wonder why Kerry was desperate to go upstairs to Logan’s bedroom? Is there something that she wants to get to first? Or to hide something from the others? She just seemed almost hysterical about needing to be allowed upstairs.

MarkWithaC · 18/04/2023 11:04

I thought she was just hysterical with grief. The wanting to go upstairs seemed to me like just wanting a last look at the room/not quite believing she wouldn't be going there any more.

JaneFondue · 18/04/2023 11:17

I think Kerry was hoping to find a letter that would confirm they were going to be married, so she could use it to bolster her standing. Which is now non-existent.

I agree and I think that’s why she dropped her bag’s contents on purpose, so that she could tell Roman about it and maybe she hopes he’ll look for it.

slamfightbrightlight · 18/04/2023 11:36

Yes the princess line was odd. In an earlier episode Shiv and Tom were talking about freezing embryos so do we think this is a planned or unplanned pregnancy? I need to watch again to check what the doctor said.

And why Greg’s name on the paper?

hopeishere · 18/04/2023 11:42

There was definitely some whispering between Roman and Kerry. Plus he knows Geri was sacked but hasn't dropped that bombshell - keeping his powder dry!

Shiv is so complex as a character! I like her but don't at the same time.

I loved Kendal beginning to flex his power!
