The trailer has just been released and I can’t wait!

It’s probably my favourite programme atm so it’s a shame it’s ending but I’d rather that than it getting repetitive and dragged out.

Yes … If the remaining episodes are only going to cover a few days it’s hard to see how any early Kerry pregnancy could influence much. Whatever bequest or arrangement might have been made regarding said child could almost certainly be overturned in years to come - as the ‘kids’ discovered when their mother betrayed them at the end of the last season.

'I guess we will never see what happened on the plane prior to the phone call.'

Shiv asked Tom to join her in the car at the end of the episode and said something like 'so tell me again what happened...'. I reckon she's planning to grill the hell out of him so she knows who to blame. They're all so angry and vindictive, as well as heartbroken, I think there will have to be finger pointing and some kind of vengeance, even as a grief displacement activity

I wondered earlier, when Karolina said she was putting together a timeline initially I thought it was a timeline of events on the plane, so they were all clear what happened when and at what time in case there were questions or the Roys tried to sue them or the plane staff.

Yes, but that bequest, and overturning/challenging it, would make for quite good drama. Especially with Matsson and the board breathing down everyone's neck, all wanting the company to stumble in some way to further their own ends.

MayIDestroyYou · 13/04/2023 12:23

I thought it was a timeline of events on the plane,

I did too, until it was clarified! There will presumably be an inquest …

slamfightbrightlight · 13/04/2023 12:32

It’s like Kendall said - whatever they do/did is what goes down in the history books/hearings.

RaininginDarling · 13/04/2023 13:02

Listened to the podcast today. Brian's quite like Logan, isn't he? 😳

Mamathulu · 13/04/2023 13:27

Thanks for the YT links, @tribpot . I'd heard the podcast and seen the first trailer, but not the Into The Episode. As a writer and filmmaker, I'm always fascinated by these, and this was particularly great - the whole series has this ensemble feel you get from rehearsed, live performances, and they're all so wonderfully underplayed, they're just all so convincing. And yes, sympathy for them all, considering what shits they all are, is another monumental achievement! God, if I ever manage to write something half as good as that I'd be chuffed to bits.

tribpot · 13/04/2023 13:30

No probs @Mamathulu and @RaininginDarling I'd agree Brian Cox doesn't exactly come over warmly in that podcast, he seems absolutely irate that Logan was Canadian for the first 9 episodes, as if the interviewer had something to do with that.

MayIDestroyYou · 13/04/2023 13:41

Oh my! Radio 4 World at One talking about the Murdoch succession and rivalry between his children - on now.

blahblahblahandblahsomemore · 13/04/2023 13:44

Rewatching from Series 1 and a few observations - firstly in Episode 1 Roman seems to have a wife called Grace and there is also a child he has some attachment to (in credits as Grace Roy). Willa is in it from episode 2 (I'd totally forgotten that)- she looks so young (and much more into Con). Lots more emphasis on the relationship between Logan and his estranged wife.

Also, and v interesting, is that when Roman moots the idea of him taking over as head of Waystar Kendall describes him as 'not being a serious person'. ;)

Kerry definitely said Marcia was shopping in Milan 'forever', presumably meaning she and Logan were separated. I've looked at various recaps for Episode 2 of Season 3, where she was negotiating with Logan (like this one) and it's sometimes described as a divorce negotiation and other times not. I think it wasn't, it was a deal not to leave Logan in return for a fat wodge of cash and definitely some kind of preferment for her son. If Marcia doesn't return they've surely got to make some reference to her, either that she's there but off screen or has refused to come back because she was cut out of the will or some such.

I had a look for a transcript of episode 2 and she said "for my return to be public, I will need my role on the trust finalized, Amir's prospects assured, my daughter taken care of, and improvements in my financial position." Her lawyer then refers to "very, very large numbers".

Re Marcia - she wanted to divorce Logan after the Rhea infidelity, which he was very blunt and unsubtle about and made her look a bit of a fool. But this was just when the shit hit the fan about with the cruises abuse and Logan had to speak in front of congress to try to exonerate himself, and his people said that going through a divorce at the same time would be a disaster for his public image and he really needed to keep Marcia on side. So he bribed her not to divorce him, and she got insane amounts of money to do that and to be publicly with him, because it was such a big deal for him - he could have gone to prison if congress had decided against him. But it was pretty clear that they wouldn’t have any sort of meaningful relationship again and that she’d only stick around for the period she was being bribed to do so - and it’s no longer really necessary once they’re off the hook for cruises.

Blondbombsite · 13/04/2023 14:28

I’m not even sure that Logan and Kerry were trying for a baby. It was Conner who told the others about the herb and he seemed to find it very amusing, he may have just been winding them up to see how they would have felt in his shoes.

OP posts:
tribpot · 13/04/2023 14:30

Yeah, I would definitely have wanted to wind them up given (in the same episode but I think after this) Kendall refers to himself as the 'eldest son'. Ouch.

I would expect Marcia to put in an appearance to make sure the kids don't try and pull a fast one on her/her children's inheritance.

RaininginDarling · 13/04/2023 15:23

Indeed @tribot

It made me giggle to think of Jesse having to break news of Logan's early departure to the actor. No wonder he was nervous!

tribpot · 13/04/2023 15:30

Yes, especially saying "now, we're gonna kill you at the start of episode 3 but we'll need you to keep coming to set for x weeks afterwards, so no-one realises what's happened". Hence I think why he says at the start of the podcast (rather ungraciously) "I don't care as long as they're paying me".

Ah, yes, thank you; I'd forgotten the context/reason for Marcia being able to make such large demands!
She'll turn up again, I'm sure; she'll realise that the kids and the board may both try to screw her out of some or all of what she was given.

Not Kendall? In earlier seasons he has a wife who he's estranged from/maybe in the process of divorcing, and they have I think two kids (at his 40th we see him searching through his presents after his (ex)wife tells him the kids have left a present for him).
Is Willa more into Connor because at that point she’s being paid?
That is interesting about not being a ‘serious person’. I think that's probably the ultimate Roy insult Grin

tribpot · 13/04/2023 16:12

No, @blahblahblahandblahsomemore is right, in the pilot Roman has a wife and a child who may or may not be his - Hello magazine is all over this! Following the series being picked up they obviously decided to bin off this connection and only Kendall has a wife and children, in fact I think the ex-Mrs Kendall is in the trailer for the upcoming weeks.

MarkWithaC · 13/04/2023 16:19

I had/have completely forgotten this! I've just read a couple of recaps and seen pictures of the wife and child, but it still doesn't ring a bell...
The very first ep is where Logan pisses on his office carpet, yes?

tribpot · 13/04/2023 16:26

It rings no bells with me at all either. And yes, the pilot opens with Logan pissing on his carpet (don't remember this). Clearly a full rewatch when the show ends is going to be in order!

slamfightbrightlight · 13/04/2023 16:29

I’ve rewatched it twice and still missed the Roman and child part 😆

blahblahblahandblahsomemore · 13/04/2023 17:30

The child, woman and Roman bit is when they're all there for Logan's birthday at their apartment. Assuming they both go for 'the game' but wasn't paying so much attention then.

Blondbombsite · 13/04/2023 17:38

I remember the woman and child but I don’t think it was made clear that it was his wife. Roman was very irate that the kids all loved a film about a Turkey that he’d passed on making.

Eyesopenwideawake · 13/04/2023 21:08

Just rewatching the first episode and Roman's "wife and daughter" feature in lots of scenes.
