I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

I really enjoyed it and thought MS was brilliant and that's something from me as I truly loved DT. Really liked Amy, think she's fab.

taffetacat · 03/04/2010 21:26

omg - how quick are they with the merchandising?!

WorzselMummage · 03/04/2010 21:28

My first thought when i saw the green light on the new sonic screwdriver was 'i bet they have done that to make money' !

Clarissimo · 03/04/2010 21:36

Me too worzel [grin[

AS I die ahrd DT fan I adored it, didn't think I;d like MS, well done them

Currently not so keen on AMy, will give that time. boys hooked

aloevera · 03/04/2010 21:36

can I join in? been a lurker for a bit, but need to put cards on table and confess my inner geek!

I thought it was brilliant, super-duper, ultra, excellent, brilliant! Matt Smith was great. I thought I'd never get over Tennant leaving, but he's brilliant. And I loved the new feel to it all. I think there's a new producer as well, is there?

Although I completely agree with RedTartanLass, the whole kissogram thing was awful. Mmmm, I love to see the thorney issue of sex work portrayed in mainstream children's tv shows. I can see what they're implying behind it. Girl has hard life-girl meets dr-dr disappears-girl goes off rails-dr comes back-girl gets saved... etc. But really, a kissogram?? And I can see what everyone's saying about the past, but surely we've come a bit further along than: assistant = totty for the dr who men and boys. I've already seen slimy posts on some dr who forums/reviews asking when they can see her in the police uniform again.

AvadaKedavra · 03/04/2010 21:40

Children's TV??

Goingspare · 03/04/2010 21:41

Sorry, joined in without asking...

Yes, I felt the kissogram thing smacked of 'something for the dads'.

aloevera · 03/04/2010 21:46

AK - ok, family tv?? My understanding is that it's mainly aimed at children, but has a wider appeal. I heard Steven Moffat say that he's writing for children mainly.

taffetacat · 03/04/2010 21:47

re the kissogram/short skirt business.

As I was watching it I thought it all smacked a bit of attracting a hetero male audience, which makes it different from the more recent previous series.

I was wondering if DS (6) would noticed the skirt. ( We'd just got back from the circus where he was snorting at the girls who were wearing pants, Mummy! ). He started pointing at the screen animatedly and said "She's rude! She's naughty!" DH and I exchanged glances. But DS just thought she was naughty for being rude to the Doc.

noeyedear · 03/04/2010 21:47

I loved it! I thought the food bit was hilarious, but maybe I'm a big kid! The bit where little Amelia sits on her suitcase was lovely and sad at the same time. I thought the plot was a bit thin and I thought the whole silence is coming or whatever was tacked unnecessarily onto the end, but overall, I could watch that again! (and will probably have to, several times before next week!)

Deanna1977 · 03/04/2010 21:48

Can I confess my inner geek too? Who am I kidding?? My geek is way out there & has got purple pants on.

I loved it!(Apart from the music). Thought Matt et all did an excellent job. Very funny & pushed all the right buttons. Of course lots of wine & chocolate increased my enjoyment enourmously. David who?....

sphil · 03/04/2010 21:49

If Steven Moffat could have seen DS1 watching this he would have been delighted - at the beginning he was clutching his chest saying he could feel his heart beating really hard and when we saw the new Tardis for the first time he said ' I think I'm going to shiver to death!'

I kept sneaking looks at him and his eyes were shining.

I thought it was fabulous too. Liked the return to humour and swashbuckle after the angst of the last DT episodes. Even a diehard DT fan like me could only take so much of the 'Doctor is forever alone' stuff.

PricklyThistle · 03/04/2010 21:55

I agree sphil!

DD watched it (DS is away at PIL) and when I was behind the cushion she was giving it 'oh look, spikey teeth'.

Frizbe · 03/04/2010 21:58

Liked it here, was good fun good new Dr, nice change of pace with the writing Assistant very well received by every male I know (texts and twitters raving about said female) Interesting to see the merchandising kicking in with the change of the sonic screwdriver from Blue to Green, that will create a whole new market for Christmas

aloevera · 03/04/2010 21:59

noeyedear- completely agree about the food scene- we were rolling around laughing! And loved how, at the end of that scene, the dr realised that the crack must be really scary because of how she wasn't phased by him. ooo, that gave me chills.

deanna1977 - I nearly put "david who?" but thought I might get hounded out after my first post

aloevera · 03/04/2010 22:01

sphil - completely agree. It felt like a breath of fresh air after a year of goodbye/lonely/breakdown doctor. (whom I loved btw!)

squilly · 03/04/2010 22:02

Went down a storm in our house, but DH always said MS would be good. DD is 9 and was trying not to be bothered by it, but clearly loved it and I loved the Tenant man, but thoroughly enjoyed MS tonight.

Whether it was the anticipation of Dr Who generally or whether it was the specific tensions raised by the new Doc, we found it a tense, exciting, funny adventure.

And DH loved Amy...and the little girl actress shares my dd's name, so she loved that!

Writing was good - as a diehard DT fan, I'm reserving judgement on MS. He looked better in DTs clothes than his own.

I still haven't watched the last two DT episodes...maybe next year.

RedTartanLass · 03/04/2010 22:11

LeonieDelt ok ok I'll admit defeat but still don't like it! And loving sphil's DS1 ' I think I'm going to shiver to death!'

EricNorthmansmistress · 03/04/2010 22:18

I just watched it on iplayer - I thought it was brilliant! I'm late to Dr Who, only got into it in DT's time, he was brilliant but Matt Smith was also fab. Plus he looks just like my little brother so I'm predisposed to like him.

AndiMac · 03/04/2010 22:19

I agree, scaryteacher, the new outfit is lousy, he looked much more sexy better in the rumpled shirt.

I liked DT, but Matt Smith did a fantastic job this first episode. The previews were leaving me a bit worried that it would be terrible, but it was great. I'm sure the episodes will be hit and miss, as per usual with Dr. Who, but I think Matt Smith will be a good Doctor.

fidelma · 03/04/2010 22:30

Watched it with our eldest once the others were in bed.

He is going to be fantastic.

Great side kick also
