I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

Wow- that was scary, proper Doctor stuff.

DH thinks the tardis is underr stonehenge when it explodes.

Liking the River stuff, although wondering why The Dcotor woudls udddenly adopt a name if it were her- unless to deceive The Doctor.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 21/06/2010 18:42

Also why, if you were the Doctor and someone phoned you and said "Doctor?" you'd say "No".

singsinthebath · 21/06/2010 18:57

I didn't mind dad-totty when we had David Tennant or Christopher Ecclestone to look at. Now I'm just for the lack of mum eye-candy.

I'm still struggling a bit with this series. I found Russell T's writing much more emotionally resonant - e.g. compare the long drawn-out parting of Rose and the Dr at the end of series 2, with a quick pop shot and disappearance of Rory in this one.

But DS is loving this series and, after all, he IS the target market.

SoupDragon · 21/06/2010 19:02

"Oh & the sontaron said only the Dr can fly the Tardis so was he wrong or was it another twist on River?"

Didn't Amy fly the Tardis last week in The Lodger? If she can fly it, anyone can.

Every time she pouts or shouts DOCTORRRRR i want to slap her.

i did, however, warm to Rory in his Roman incarnation....

ShadeofViolet · 21/06/2010 19:13

When River was in Amy's bedroom, she said 'Oh Doctor, why do I let you out?' - I think this is a hint as to what will happen next week. I hpe its not the end of River, however it might tie in with why she is in Prison - does she take the Dr's place in the Pandorica?

noeyedear · 21/06/2010 20:13

River is still alive at the end of it because she still has to meet DT's doctor and die in the library. I thought the 'why do I let you out bit was like "I cant take you anywhere (hubby!) "

nymphadora · 21/06/2010 20:35

River still has to meet the angels too.

So far her timeline seems to be

  • kill someone , get locked up
  • pandorica
  • weeping angels
  • library
Pixel · 21/06/2010 20:53

So the only thing left in Pandora's box was hope wasn't it? Do you think that means anything?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 21/06/2010 21:21

I think it means that at some point next week someone is going to deliver a cheesy line something along the lines of "You used the story of Pandora's box in creating the Pandorica But you're forgetting what the one thing left in Pandora's box was - HOPE!" and then the Doctor will do something clever and inspirational. Preferably something that doesn't involve looking like Dobby the House Elf or borrowing the transformation effect from Shrek.

Pixel · 21/06/2010 22:05

I was thinking along those lines too. Could be ok if it's done well I suppose but as you say, on previous form it could be truly awful('Dobby' thing just cringeworthy).

I'm now picturing The Doctor leaping out of the Pandorica shouting "ta da!", and the assembled crowd launching into a song and dance routine like the end of Shrek.

SoupDragon · 21/06/2010 22:09

"River still has to meet the angels too."

surely she's already met them because she knew the doctor's current incarnation in this episode and not in the angel one.

SaintIncognita · 21/06/2010 22:26

This thread definitely needs to have a regeneration, but someone else will have to do it, given numpty me started this one with a typo.

persephonesnape · 21/06/2010 22:32

fills space as wants sparkly new thread for last episode of S5

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 21/06/2010 22:43

I thought she did recognise this incarnation in the angels one? Will have to check when it comes out on DVD.

She definitely said in this episode that that hadn't happened for her yet, though -- Amy said "You told the Doctor you'd see him again when the Pandorica opened" and River responded (something to the effect of) "Perhaps I did, but I haven't yet". Also the angels-River knew about the Pandorica (hence her being able to tell the Doctor that that was the next time she'd see him) which again suggests that in her timeline the Pandorica happens before the wreck of the Byzantium.

nymphadora · 21/06/2010 23:10

She stopped Amy from
talking about the other meeting with 'spoilers'

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/06/2010 23:20

i think the doctor has crossed his own timeline....DH told me today (his is a total Dr who fanatic - really seriously - yes its that bad)

in the one with the angels when he left amy in the wood - he came back and he had his jacket on again and his tie on again - when he left her he didnt - he gave her a funny message saying to trust him - dh thought it was a continuity error to start with but now he thinks the doctor has crossed his own timeline and somethings gonna happen next week! he is all excited!

EnglandAllenPoe · 21/06/2010 23:44

ah well now, i've missed comenting on two episodes!

spooky second floor spaceship = good.
doctors antics = a bit dubious, but i'll live wiht that. he is normally a bit odd in company (and likes to act odder than he could manage)
lack of Amy = very good
solution = neat. 'there's no place like home'..etc...little too neat.

what was the fungus about though? how did that fit in?

The Pandorica....

well, River song is back! - YYYYYYYYayYYYYYYY! give us more sSong, less Pond!

all she bloody does is scream and get into trouble. and who CAREs about her and Rory...I certainly don't.

although there have been previous assistants in this role, comparisons with Bonnie Langford (the unutterable) are surely not welcome?

lots of mysteries....

ShadeofViolet · 22/06/2010 07:30

I was looking forward to seeing a Zygon! They are my favourite enemies ever

SoupDragon · 22/06/2010 07:35

Maybe I'm all confused with all the twisty turny bots of time. I thought shed recognised him as the doctor but not his actual incarnation. IYSWIM. I remember the "spoilers" bit now though.

ShadeofViolet · 22/06/2010 07:39

And who's voice was it who was saying 'Silence will Fall' when River was in the Tardis, that was scary!

Did anyone else think that the scene at the beginning when she was looking for the Doctor, there was a scene that reminded me of Star Wars.

There's a pic on one website of The Doctor with a someone

So i think the someone, who you ould never expect to be pro doctor, must survive the explosion (somewone looks a bit worse for wear) and be involved

which would be good

but I don't want to reveal who someone ius and as its only a till could be on completely wrong track

aaaarrrgggh

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 11:08

Maybe its a paradox where he saves himself by crossing his own time line?

lucysnowe · 22/06/2010 12:53

So am I the only one who fancies the trousers off of Matt Smith? DT never did it for me, for some reason...

EnglandAllenPoe · 22/06/2010 15:16

i thought the creepy voice was that of Davros...
