I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

OP posts:

Is it just happening for me, or is this thread really slow for anyone else?

Spotted this interview with Neil Gaiman where it mentions that he's written a script for Doctor Who - presumably for the next series - could be v good.

nymphadora · 14/06/2010 14:19

Very slow, I'm not that inspired to post this series

Ripeberry · 14/06/2010 15:48

The house was very silly. Why would anyone in their right mind have a one storey house in the middle of a row of two storey houses?
They should have used a house by itself.
Hope the last story has a really good twist, we think the Tardis will just blow up, but there is more to it....

nymphadora · 14/06/2010 16:02

Should have used one of those random hous streets. My town is full of them.

JackieNo · 14/06/2010 17:09

Maybe we need a new thread?

Just had a thought about the last episode - if it was some sort of time machine like the Tardis, and it was capable of looking like other things, maybe it turns itself into a shape that looks like the Tardis, and then blows up. And then time is re-set and Rory comes back . So it's not THE Tardis that blows up, just something that looks like it (OK, I'm not entirely convincing myself, but it's interesting to speculate).

I think how much the Doctor is in tune with current Earth habits varies from incarnation to incarnation. Ten was quite at home in 21st century UK but Nine was more socially awkward in terms of picking up social cues, and Eleven is in many ways a throwback to One (who spent most of his modern-era Earthbound time sitting in the TARDIS while Susan went out to interact with people) and Two so his being more gauche and socially clueless sort of fits.

I think Matt Smith is a fantastically good Doctor. I like Amy in principle but they've not really developed her character or done anything with her the way that I thought they might at the start of the series -- I thought she was going to have a really good and interesting arc of her own but that seems to have fallen by the wayside now. In terms of other companions, I liked Donna, liked Rose for the first series and a half untill it All Started Getting A Bit Silly and would have liked Martha if she hadn't been saddled with that awful pining-after-the-Doctor subplot, although I did find her plot-driven metamorphosis into gung-ho UNIT soldier-type in her comeback appearances rather unbelievable (and marrying Mickey? Per-lease.).

The writers/producers have, in theory, a good point you are thrust together with a man who is at least reasonably goodlooking, very intelligent and charismatic, and who saves your life on a regular basis, so it's quite understandable that you should start falling for him, but it's a bit dull for the audience so I wish they'd give it a rest. I would actually like to go back to having a companion who's not from modern-day Earth someone from the future or the past or another planet. Or have two companions on a regular basis; I quite like the vibe when the TARDIS has someone else along for the ride. The assumption that the audience is too dumb to follow the show without having a modern-day human companion to stand in for them asking all the obvious questions (which is basically what Julie Gardner said when asked about the companion policy) is insulting and irritating.

I get the impression from reading NG's comments on the subject that his script was originally commissioned for the first series (he got to watch MS's audition tapes to give him a feel for the kind of Doctor he was writing for) but that time constraints and deadlines pushed it out into the second season. Definitely something to look forward to in 2011.

SanctiMoanyArse · 15/06/2010 12:00

Rather liked last two episodes but didn't like the inhabited earth things at all so a mixed bag.

So from looking about it seems people think there are two dr's becuase of a blue tie / red tie thing; there's a second time line with another Dr and that's why there is another tardis.

So the pandora-thing is a gatewway or similar.

So my guess fwiw is that the dr has to make a choice (that ebing an overall theme os the season) and sacrifices himself in favour of the other dr (apparenlty Riveer kills the dr that goes) thius alolwing rory's reincarnation.

Perhaps.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/06/2010 12:07

But David Tennant used to have two suits and a range of different ties, so by that reasoning there would be a whole load of David Tennants running about the place. Hmm...

I really don't think Rory will be back. I think (hope?) that SM is taking a stand on the "gone is gone" point rather than RTD's "they are gone forever and you will never see them again, ever. Except that time. Oh, and again. And then there's the time you get together for that thing. Actually, better not delete their number from your mobile, now I come to think about it...". If he isn't I shall be mightily hacked off and boo at the television (and I liked Rory. In fact, I feel more strongly about it because I liked Rory, I think).

SanctiMoanyArse · 15/06/2010 12:12

I loathed Rory and I hope you are right.

Thenjist of the otehr sites (second hand I dmit through DH) is that the reed tie / blue tie pertains to the specific finale episodes.

It does tie in with the clues given so far.

The main themes I have picked out are chocies, and also the fallible dr- minor and mroe severe errors along the way.

Whetehr they get tied in though who knows?

Persoanlly i'd like to see Rory desptahced witha final sign and sixteen feet of lead coffin LOL.

Of copurse there's also the Amy clue and why is it following her- no idea at all.

overall though have been majorly and pelasantly surprrised by the new Dr; alst one ahd turned into a miserable so and so and tbh was starting to annoy me (and I like DT generally).

PersephoneSnape · 15/06/2010 14:27

neil Gaiman episodeis scheduled for S6 ep 3.

DS1 is having his primary school leaving assembly tomorrow and is...playing...the...role...of.... THE DOCTOR!

faints with happiness!

I have spent the last few days trying to cobble together a reasonable costume, going through his lines and intonating 'bow ties ARE cool.' in clipped english tones. We have perfected the twirl. I am trying to surreptitiously film it. i am all a -squee!

SanctiMoanyArse · 15/06/2010 16:50

Ohh good luck Perse's son!

Now spoler alert some think that this is a pic of as it says below below but I am not so sure....

(Is that obtusde enough? Sorry)

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/06/2010 17:56

Oh, not the bloody mh-mh, the a-hem and the cough again. Many of them were name-checked on the "Next week..." section on Saturday but I was rather hoping they'd stay off-screen. Perhaps they just have cameos... [hopeful]

Re the lead question: it's at least superficially plausible .

nymphadora · 15/06/2010 20:10

Anyone else think there has been a lot of numbers used in this series too?

SUPportblacksENGLand · 16/06/2010 09:27

It's been bugging me for ages who Amy looks like and watching last Sat it finally clicked

nymphadora · 16/06/2010 10:22

Hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

ROFL! Brilliant link

MrsSaxon · 17/06/2010 10:40

The air kissing just plain annoyed me, but this was a much better episode.

So what does everyone think is inside the Pandorica? Could be the Doctor?

Glad River is back next week, she rocks.

Kaloki · 19/06/2010 14:11

I actually got bored during the last episode and wandered off, that's not good.

nymphadora · 19/06/2010 19:32

Ooh ooh ooh dare I hope...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/06/2010 19:37

Oooh. I nearly started sticking my pins into my little SM doll, but a brainwashed Auton who just thinks he's Rory and winds up killing Amy is definitely permissible.

That was very promising. Now please don't let him do an RTD and cock it up at the end with a giant reset switch. Or do a this-series SM and just fluff the ending a bit.

nymphadora · 19/06/2010 19:48

I'm quite happy with the bring Rory back & the twist of Auton is good!

Please please no reset though!

Oh & the sontaron said only the Dr can fly the Tardis so was he wrong or was it another twist on River?
