I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

I think the crack will come back in a few stories. It did eat a load of Weeping Angels last week.
Takes time to digest

Leoniedelt - I had to look up the Valeyard () - but having read about him, you could well be right!

Wikipedia entry for the Valeyard.

So River Song killed the Valeyard?????

KayHarker · 16/05/2010 19:14

Rewatching I know what the problem is - it felt like a rehashing of the first episode - the Eleventh Hour. Sleepy village, aliens disguised as humans with their mouths revealing them, race against time, Doctor versus Rory banter. I'm hoping it'll improve on a rewatch but it was one of the weakest so far for me (and I have mostly loved this series).

Ooooh Live Shows!

JaneS · 17/05/2010 19:52

I thought it was really dull. And I don't quite get the half-hearted 'choice' thing. After that smooch, it doesn't seem as if Amy fancies the Dr, or Rory, and Rory doesn't seem too interested in her either! So why the blazes was there all that cringey rubbish about it being her big 'choice'?

Disappointing.

Ripeberry · 17/05/2010 22:03

I love finding out where the locations are.
Found it! It is Skenfrith castle near Abergavenny.

EdgarAllenPoll · 18/05/2010 18:51

last episode - interesting, pacey...yes i thought the 'big choice' aspect played badly (too early for this kind of plotline!! No-one gives enough of a toss who Amy chooses yet...)

I think they could have played it to be even more scary though. and they didn't have to kill theselves in the village-dream to find out it was a ream - they could have jsut waited to go back to the other one, and if Rory was there, that was the real one..(although, as it seemed, not..)

I want more River Song.

TheCappster · 19/05/2010 12:28

hello peeps long time no see

came on here because me and dh had a row about how pitiful I thought the whole 'choice' thing was and how it was too early etc

clearly I was right and he was wrong

also can Amy stop pouting like someone in a Carry On film?

MerlotPixie · 19/05/2010 13:57

Doctor = good.

Story lines = not so good.

Shame eh?

RustyBear · 19/05/2010 18:10

Cappster - was wondering where you were (assuming you were once a beverage?)

Looking at Saturday's previews, Amy appears to be back to the hooker gear.

The Silurians on the other hand, appear to be wearing pinafores....

EdgarAllenPoll · 19/05/2010 18:20

of course you're right cappster - you agree with me!

Arcadie · 19/05/2010 22:39

Ok eagle eyed people....

I watched the confidential for Amy's Choice. I'm not proud of it but there we are. MS mentions that he comes in for some "chin bashing" this episode. I didn't spot any (and I think his chin is just as lovely as the rest of him). Was I just missing some throw away comment?

mummag · 20/05/2010 12:16

back to riversong and who she is, someone mentioned to me that she could be rani, from ages ago who was some kind of lady time traveller. Just a thought

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 22/05/2010 20:23

hmm, not sure about this episode really. Didn't seem much of a cliffhanger for a 2 parter. and I'm getting fed up of the doctor promising to save everybody.

Peace8lossom · 22/05/2010 23:04

Found it a little dull here too. Quite old school in the long setting up of the story, and the cliffhanger was very abrupt.

Katisha · 22/05/2010 23:54

Yes dont think it was gripping enough for a two-parter.

Am also disturbed by the line about being dissected while conscious. Thanks, scriptwriters for that image...

Methinks Amy is a little too keen on her own legs. But I suppose I would be if I looked like that...

Peace8lossom · 23/05/2010 10:32

On a rewatch, choc full of really disturbing images and ideas - the dissections, the ground swallowing you up, the coffin type thing Amy was trapped in and being pursued in the dark through the graveyard. Really quite creepy.

(Kay here, I did radical name change cos I'm a bit too identifiable)

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 23/05/2010 13:42

I liked it.
Disturbing yes but it had a very old fashioned feel to it which I really enjoyed - a hark back to the old pre-CGI days - until the very end that is.
And I loved the twist on the 'I"m the last of my species' line. For a millisecond my (and I'm sure lots of) heart(s) sank and thought 'not again' so the pay off was excellent.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 23/05/2010 15:24

I liked it, although am reserving overall judgement until we see the next part. And I thought this week's Confidential was excellent and a real insight into what goes into pulling the programme together. I had no idea how much the images got tweaked in the grading process or that every single noise of anything was provided (mostly) by a foley artist or (sometimes) by computer.

And it was interesting what they'd cut out -- the long scene with the Doctor and Amy that was left on the virtual editing room floor explained why there's no discussion of where Rory is or what the deal is with Future Amy and Future Rory (which I'd wondered about) and the way in which Amy delivers the line "I was dressed for Rio" in the mine building (meant to be part of a running joke but the other instances got cut out).
