I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

Yes, I watched about five minutes of one doctor who confidential and had to switch off as had had enough of her.

The other thing that is really irritating me about the new series (apologies if this has already been discussed earlier in the thread, haven't had time to read whole thread!) is why the angels were not sending people back in time but just killing them outright. The whole reason Blink was so good was because of that and the whole "wibbly wobbly timey wimey" thing. I can't understand why Steven Moffat seems to have just completely ignored it. Or maybe I am missing something.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 10/05/2010 14:28

Many of the companions would be bloody annoying in RL, after all. Leela's desire to kill things and/or people would be a bit tricky to deal with of a Friday night...

Arcadie · 10/05/2010 17:52

KayHarker thanks for setting my spelling straight.

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 18:51

Didn't realize I had - not sure how she spells it meself.

RustyBear · 10/05/2010 19:02

Actually Arcadie was right....

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 19:10

There you see - not a spelling cop here. I have other wierd fixations.

This series is just not doing it for me (sob).

Matt Smith doesn't have the acting ability to portray the nuances of a 900 year old who has seen and experienced so much. He does geeky doctor and shouty/action doctor quite well, but he doesn't do emotion or shades of grey like David Tennant. And let's face it, Matt isn't as easy on the eye either.

Amy is good DH totty but if they show one more close up of her big puppy dog eyes, I'm going to scream.

And generally the pace of the episodes is wrong. There is a lot of jumping from plot idea to plot idea, and not enough exposition of characters or humour. If anything, the Venice one was the first one, where I felt the series was starting to relax into itself. And there were some seriously beautiful sets and frockage.

Mind you DS (aged 8) loves the new series. And maybe they're just targetting the kids now rather than the whole family.

I think I might have to admit to finding MS growing on me in the attractiveness sense

OP posts:
RustyBear · 10/05/2010 19:23

Written anything yet....?

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 19:27

Not yet - not sure there's the market for it except my own sordid imagination

I don't know, he's just got a few charming mannerisms and a willing-to-be-corrupted public school charm about him. I know, I know, there's no excuse.

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 10/05/2010 19:35

There's always the market for it, Kay...

RustyBear · 10/05/2010 19:35

It's not just Doctor Who porn fanfic, it's MS Doctor Who porn fanfic....

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 19:55

fnar fnar. Not sure I've got it in me while Ashes is still taking up too much brainspace. We shall have to see what happens. Not sure I like Amy enough yet, though.

OP posts:
Arcadie · 10/05/2010 20:19

Kay I too find MS quite lovely to look at. but only when he's talking. i like the accent. He still looks a bit like a potato IMHO. Being new to the DW thread I'm slightly unnerved by rusty's comments - what does she mean - "Have you written anything yet?"

RustyBear · 10/05/2010 20:23

Hey - when did they fix the typo in the title????

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 20:43

Oh, I feel all honoured, having cocked it up in the first place - thanks MNHQ! (for a number of other things too, which we won't go into)

Arcadie, I'm not sure you really want to know the answer to that question. I write fanfiction (among other, more worthy pursuits).

OP posts:
Arcadie · 10/05/2010 21:00

what is fanfiction?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 10/05/2010 21:41

I think Rusty meant MS artistically justified erotica fanfic, though.

RustyBear · 10/05/2010 21:50

Fanfiction is fiction written by fans of films, TV show, books, about the characters in them - they may follow the overall storylines of the original or may investigate a 'what if' scenario - usually known as Alternate Universe, or AU - for example, one TOrchwood/DrWho fanfic I've been reading recently looks at an alternative version of the 'Year that never was' at the end of DW series 3.

It's written about all sorts of TV shows - my DH writes Gerry Anderson fanfic, mostly Captain Scarlet with occasional crossovers into Stingray, Fireball XL5 etc.

Kay writes great DW fanfic - I'll leave it to her to link to it if she wants to, but if you're interested this is the index of DW fanfic on fanfiction.net

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 21:58

This is my DW fic. I haven't written anything for ages though, had my usual crisis of confidence. I've still got stuff waiting in draft that may yet see the light of day.

OP posts:
aloevera · 11/05/2010 09:19

Kay, as a long time lurker, I've always thought your writing was brilliant. It got me through the dark 'other doctor/Rose' but-what-HAPPENED days!

KayHarker · 11/05/2010 13:51

aloevera ye're very kind

OP posts:
RustyBear · 11/05/2010 15:22

ProfessorLayton - that is, of course, what I meant

RustyBear · 11/05/2010 19:18

Waiting for Gordon Brown's speech outside Downing Street - DH just predicted he's going to come out and say:

"Do you believe that I would let a lifetime's work be ended by the will of spineless fools like you? You have won nothing! I allowed this charade to be played out for one reason only: To find those men who were truly loyal to me and to discover those WHO WOULD BE-TRAY ME! WE? I! WILL! GO! ON!"

The scary thing is that he was word-perfect....
