I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

Just been reading Dr Who mag. interesting episode coming up regarding reality/dreams/worlds

NorkilyChallenged · 04/05/2010 17:49

Hermya - that can't be right as the River Song in the Matt Smith eps was from earlier in the timeline (didn't know she was going to become a Professor).

Though obv time can be rewritten.

I do think there's a good chance she killed the Dr. Octavian said "a hero to many" and "a good man" and you're right, the look River gave the Dr was v pointed

Was thinking about earlier eps for clues and there don't seem to be any in the Dalek ep (except for Amy not remembering the Daleks) but I wondered about the inventor guy - all the stuff about him being built by Daleks and not reallyhuman but he had real memories of real feelings etc.

Am wondering if Amy not human somehow, not a real life which is why all the discrepancies (duckpond, no ducks, no Dalek memory etc).

Also that's my theory why the Dr is always late back to her - time is weird around her because she's rewriting time somehow/shouldn't exist. So he thinks he's gone for 5 mins but it's 12 years.

Okay, so my theory is a work in progress

Hermya321 · 04/05/2010 18:23

Norkily They meet at random points and don't always meet in order though, the Doc first met River at the end of her life. What if the Doc first met River at the end of his?

NorkilyChallenged · 04/05/2010 18:47

See what you're saying htere, Hermya.

This is why dp won't discuss the timey wimey stuff with me, it is a bit confusing

noeyedear · 04/05/2010 21:49

urgh yeah, to be the docs kid would be a bit yuk now! How embarrassed would you be?? I still think she's River's child though. She didn't seem to ask her who she was or anything. I think I'll just wait for a few weeks, when all will be revealed! My head hurts!

EdgarAllenPoll · 05/05/2010 21:20

i thought the AMy jumping doctor scene was pretty cringeworthy. but cringeworthy not because it was' sexual' content in a family show (and more smoochy-smoochy stuff you'd regularly get on Star Trek...) but because it was ...not built up to...no tension at all - so none to work with!

i liked River Song as vamp. And as slightly butch trooper. it was all about her sassy wit either way. although i feel there was a little too much referencing Other Plot Yet To Happen at the end of the episode...i like an episode that holds itself within its own story right up to the end....

the angels were less scary at the end. they stopped being terrifying when they stopped their endless onslaught. why did the doctor waste so much time chinwaging once the forest was open? why?

flabby writing like that loses tension.

JackieNo · 06/05/2010 12:44

Don't forget, the actual Doctor's Daughter (Georgia whatserface, Peter Davison's daughter from the episode of the same name) is still Out There, waiting to be used in something, so to speak. Ooh - maybe she's River Song. But he'd recognise her, wouldn't he.

KayHarker · 06/05/2010 14:28

and she is still 'out there' at Moffat's request so yer never know.

OP posts:
KayHarker · 06/05/2010 14:29

and it's georgia Moffett methinks

OP posts:
EdgarAllenPoll · 06/05/2010 17:56

just read the wiki entry on that epidsode - ver' interesting ...
here

espcially as there are other mentions of family...
of course, the general look isn't indicative, is it, as time lords regenerate....

River song is quite the warrioress so could be the Doctors daughter...but i don't think so...

although on reflection i think Amy marks a return to the more familiar territory of the assistants job in the episode being to get in trouble, make a lot of noise, and get rescued...(which Donna was a departure from)..

you know, my fave assistant is still Ace.

KayHarker · 06/05/2010 19:26

I still love Ace. Survival remains a cheesey favourite.

Is it an Eddie Izzard sketch where there's a lot of: 'Doctor, doctor. Oh, I've been captured' (DH and I often quote this while watching )

Kay, yes, of course - Moffett (d'oh!).

I really didn't like Ace, for some reason (though she had great hair [shallow]. I liked Leela, as I was young enough just to admire her toughness, without realising she was just eye candy for the dads. I liked Catherine Tate a lot too.

KayHarker · 08/05/2010 19:12

Well, that was great fun. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought it was rubbish!! not scary, boring and the doctor seemed so out of character.

next weeks looks good though

ShadeofViolet · 08/05/2010 19:33

I did really like it, but the whole thing morphed into a copy of the Doctor/Rose/Mickey relationship at times which was annoying.

Loved the broom/swordfight bit though.

KayHarker · 08/05/2010 19:38

No, i'll give you that, twasn't scary, but I loved the script, so funny. And Amy is much ballsier than Rose ever was for me. So much so that I'm not really liking her, but still. Loved the Doctor coming out of the cake.

OP posts:
Ripeberry · 08/05/2010 19:49

Good laugh this week. The cake and the broom/swordfight were great! .
Next week looks really good....almost like Avatar (is the dream world real and here a dream?)

RustyBear · 08/05/2010 19:51

Loved the First Doctor's library card!

KayHarker · 08/05/2010 19:55

Yes! And the snarky little lines about Casanova. Marvellous fun.

I didn't think it was as good as it looked like it was going to be. But good steady dw romp nonetheless!

Not sure about the whole Rory thing, very like dr/rose/mickey except Rory seems a bit brighter and Amy seems like she actually wants him around now. I'm also hating the whole "I was about to die, so I need someone to shag now." eh?

Am I the only one thinking this dr seems to get very angry/shouty a lot?

JackieNo · 08/05/2010 20:34

I quite enjoyed it, but I just don't seem to get involved in the same way as I did with the DT ones. When Matt Smith climbed to the top of the spire thingy and turned off the machine, I found myself thinking 'Was that it? So what?' .

essenceofSES · 08/05/2010 20:50

Hello! Mind if I gatecrash?!

I've so far been much happier with MS than I expected to be. Tonight's episode was a bit disappointing though.
As others have said, the dynamic is now a bit Rose/Mickey/DW.
I also agree that this Doctor does seem to get a bit shouty and angry at times. He seemed to just snap at Amy at one point telling her to do as she was told. Maybe he is her dad?!

Next week's does look good though and I'm intrigued by the River Song link, who Amy actually is, the silence theme, the crack, etc.
