I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

Potentially because she had twelve years to pick over every turn of phrase, every nuance, every micro-expression. And because the RTD/SM Doctors do seem to have trouble working out who they are, really, for a little while.

Yes, it doesn't quite work (I'd like to see her being wrong about him more often and having to readjust her assumptions) but it's a reasonable try.

persephonesnape · 27/04/2010 20:40

thinking about River Song today - thought she was - just nicer in the library - she was a little bit smug, but clearly adored the doctor and would die for him - which she kind of did. i genuinely believed she loved him. now she's just a bit smug and bossy and a tad emasculating - an archetypal 'nagging wife' parody. it just makes the doctor look like the last 20 odd years of Tv where, oh silly men, pfffft, brakes off dear.

not sure i like that.

prettybird · 28/04/2010 17:37

Dh has a theory that Riversong is the Doctor's mother not his wife.

EggyAllenPoe · 28/04/2010 20:20

I thought the 'brakes off dear' was funny, and 'taking him down a peg or two' - kind of amusingly out of context kitchen sink stuff.

interesting thought...

but she seemed to affirm the wife thing to Amy. though being from his future, she'd probably know what happens about Amy too....

JackieNo · 28/04/2010 20:21

Wouldn't he recognise her, though, prettybird, even if she'd regenerated? Also he's supposed to be the last of the time lords (though they keep bringing them back, so maybe we can discount that!)

THe way he behaved when she asked him to 'sonic' her was a bit like a sulky kid, though.

RustyBear · 28/04/2010 20:26

Has your DH been reading the Radio Times prettybird?

Trouvere · 28/04/2010 21:06

Unless the Master and Prof. Chronotis and any number of Gallifreyan Time Lords all left the brakes on too, River Song was clearly talking nonsense.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 28/04/2010 21:35

Maybe they did all leave the brakes on around the Doctor, because the way he drove his TARDIS was a standing joke on Gallifrey and they were all taking the piss out of him?

aloevera · 29/04/2010 15:00

Major spoiler. Do not click unless you want to know something significant about the plot!

aloevera · 29/04/2010 15:06

And the BBC apologized for that awful Graham Norton trailer. I thought it was terrible and felt sorry for MS who finally was grasping his dr role by the neck and delivering his brilliant speech only to have the moment ruined by an ad!

stressed2007 · 29/04/2010 21:13

Not a doctor who fan. Just watched the first episode of the new series and have to say brilliant.

One of the best things I have seen on tv for ages. Keep it coming!

SleepingLion · 30/04/2010 18:05

Interesting thread on the digitalspy forum about how some viewers are really struggling to warm to the character of Amy Pond and I must admit, I found myself agreeing with the points they were making. While I have been pleasantly surprised by Matt Smith (even though he's nowhere near DT standard for me), I am really disappointed by how much I dislike Amy and how irritating I find her.

After The Eleventh Hour, I was really excited and thought that my love of the series was going to survive DT/RTD's departures. But unless Amy's character changes radically, I don't think it will

MerlotPixie · 30/04/2010 18:31

Is River Song Prisoner Zero?

Just thought that last week she said something about not wanting to go back to prison again, or something like that!

That feckin crack gets everywhere...

Pixel · 30/04/2010 21:04

Sleepinglion, I agree. I expected to hate Matt Smith but liked him from the first episode and like him more and more as time goes on.
I thought Amy looked like she would be a good companion but she gets more irritating by the minute!

aloevera · 30/04/2010 21:09

Amy grated on me too in Time of Angels. She seemed to familiar. How did she know he doesn't normally let people call him sir/salute etc?

Am I the only one thinking that they seem to be forming a bit of a father-daughter relationship?

aloevera · 01/05/2010 13:56

can't wait for tonight...

Hmm
emkana · 01/05/2010 19:23

It was good, but I could have done without the scene of Amy trying to seduce the Doctor. I am probably a prude and all that, but I would rather not see it in a programme that is largely aimed at children.

RunawayWife · 01/05/2010 19:24

Can somebody please tell Amy she can not go snogging the Dr.
It is not the done thing and it has to stop!!!!!!

Nymphadora · 01/05/2010 19:26

It didnt seem relevant but am hoping it is...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2010 19:30

Amy was outrageous tonight - Bad Girl. hmpfff.

other than that was super excellent episode

RunawayWife · 01/05/2010 19:33

I really do not like her much, I have tried to warm to her but she seems to full of herself and to involved to the point of it being Amy Pond and not Dr Who

saslou · 01/05/2010 19:34

well, I have decided that i miss DT. Also loved CE. Cannot warm to MS - he is a bit angry imo. Not keen on Amy either

PortBlacksandDweller · 01/05/2010 19:56

It would be nice to have it not all about the DRs assistants for once. i.e. Rose and Donna (not Martha so much admittedly).

Even River Song got the best lines...
