I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

SM apparently said a couple of weeks ago when asked about the date on Rory's ID "I have never actually looked at Rory's name tag to be completely honest with you ... it's not a significant plot thing."

But then he's also said that he has no problem lying to the public about upcoming plot, so who knows? Personally I can easily imagine putting "1990" as a date on a prop I was fabricating without realising its improbability, as I still instinctively labour under the fond delusion that 1990 was only a couple of years ago, maybe five at the outside.

New to the Dr Who thread here - hope it's OK to join in.

I worship the shoes.

But the crack in the wall is freaking DS out since he discovered a slight crack in his bedroom wall. This new series may leave me needing to redecorate.

very true

I look at films from 200 and think 'oh, just out of the cinema then..'

and 'Aren't the Doctors looking younger these days?'

JackieNo · 26/04/2010 22:18

at singsinthebath needing to redecorate. Maybe it'll turn out to be something exciting and good the other side of the crack, so you won't need to .

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/04/2010 22:39

Perhaps SM is taking kickbacks from the building and decorating industry in return for promoting demand?

persephonesnape · 27/04/2010 09:48

hurry UP SATURDAY!!!

TheJollyPirate · 27/04/2010 09:55

I watched the episode on BBC iPlayer two days ago. It was fabulous and very scary. I love Matt Smith in the role - more and more as the series goes on.

singsinthebath · 27/04/2010 12:29

Re - the crack in the wall - I love the way that SM taps into those almost primeval childhood fears - the monsters lurking in the shadows (the library), things that move when you look away (blink) or the strange world lurking through the crack in the wall.

TwoIfBySea · 27/04/2010 13:13

I have to say that while they were walking past all those statue things (before they realised they were angels) I was crapping myself that one of them would move. As for the Amy and the tv angel part...breathe deep!

Love it when it goes really scary. After the teaser for next week my dts are running around saying "but now you have to keep your eyes open!"

The Doctor had said that the previous angels, in the Sally Sparrow story were scavengers which makes these even more dangerous!

Ripeberry · 27/04/2010 14:00

Boo-hoo, going camping next weekend Sat and Sun night so won't be able to watch it on TV.
Will have to use i-player

TwoIfBySea · 27/04/2010 14:33

To add, because I've just remembered, dts1 wondered how the angels were killing people because he misheard and thought Bob had said the angel had "slapped my legs."

Go figure.

thegrowlygus · 27/04/2010 16:44

eggyallenpoe - I am another one who still thinks 1990 wasn't that long since, and I am a doctor, so thank you for your kind words about me looking younger...

Katisha · 27/04/2010 16:46

Why is the Doctor letting people call him Sir these days?

My theory about Amy not knowing about the daleks is that some sort of mass amnesia is being caused by the crack in the wall thingie.

SleepyDopeyGrumpy · 27/04/2010 19:12

It is kind of annoying me when Amy says things like "Old and wise and powerful, remind you of someone?" (on her first trip with him)
"Your letting people call you sir, you never do that" (last ep) Its like SM is trying to force the relationship onto us when realisticly she has spent the equivalent of less than a week with him!

EggyAllenPoe · 27/04/2010 19:17

actually i think the whole Amy-doctor thing seems a bit over-desperate..Amy starts off waiting 12 years in a house with a multiform entity and stil idolises him utterly, (and the making her boyf dress up as the Doctor labours this point)

i feel assistants should be much more critical, less worshipful....and along for the ride, not just to be near The Great Man.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/04/2010 19:20

But she's spent fourteen years obsessing about him. SM has said that's quite deliberate -- because there was a new Doctor and a new companion he introduced Amy that way so that for the early part of the series she'd know him in some ways better than he knows himself.

Pixel · 27/04/2010 19:22

Sleepydopeygrumpy I thought that! I said to dd "how does she know? She's only just met him". Tis very annoying.

pinkteddy · 27/04/2010 19:23

Eggy Allen wasn't that Donna though? SM obviously wanted a different type of assistant, although I agree her relationship with him does seem a bit desperate.

Pixel · 27/04/2010 19:24

DD is 14 btw, so I'm not spoiling it for a littl'un.

EggyAllenPoe · 27/04/2010 19:24

i think she should harbur more resentment, as that would make things more complex. and hero-worship is sick-making.

pinkteddy · 27/04/2010 19:25

Agree that's why Martha got on my nerves! Although she grew on me over time. Hoping Amy will do the same!

SleepyDopeyGrumpy · 27/04/2010 19:40

"But she's spent fourteen years obsessing about him. SM has said that's quite deliberate -- because there was a new Doctor and a new companion he introduced Amy that way so that for the early part of the series she'd know him in some ways better than he knows himself."

Yes but obsessing about him is not the same as Knowing anything about him! She spent an hour or two with him as a child and a few hours with him 12 years later! How is that supposed to make her know him better than e knows himself!?

EggyAllenPoe · 27/04/2010 19:44

i think DOnna had the feel of being around for comic relief mostly. not much of the wide-eyd staring thing going on for her...

SoupDragon · 27/04/2010 19:45

I LOVE the weeping angels! DSs and I had such fun after the original episode, creeping up on each other and freezing in menacing poses and we get to do it all again!

They are a fab monster as, unlike daleks etc, you can see them all around you in real life. Superb.
