I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

TrillianAstra, you missed the baseball bat. That was my first clue, as soon as we saw a policewoman I realised that she wasn't before I Noticed anything else because what sort of policewoman clobbers someone with a baseball bat?

SoupDragon · 06/04/2010 10:35

"what sort of policewoman clobbers someone with a baseball bat? "

I assumed the house owner clobbered him and then called the police. Then it was clear she wasn't a policewoman from the outfit.

Some people need to get a grip. I can't believe there are people whinging about the implication that the guy was looking at porn on his laptop. They didn't show it FGS. and complaining about Amy's short skirt! LOL how utterly ridiculous. It's not like it's her costume for the rest of the series (I assume not anyway ) I think her legs looked perfectly fine in the 20denier tights. Although there was one point she clearly couldn't run/hop over the low chain fence in that skirt.

Generally, I thought it was good. I'm fairly confident that the Tardis is in good hands.

TrillianAstra · 06/04/2010 11:47

Id think you'd be able to run better in a short skirt than a knee-length one. I can certainly cycle more easily in a short skirt than a pencil skirt. It's more practical for running about saving the world.

SoupDragon · 06/04/2010 11:58

I think she was trying not to flash her knickers

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 06/04/2010 11:59

I don't know re the wedding - the dress looked like it was in an attic or an old wardrobe, not laid out ready for a wedding the following day as some have suggested. Plus, when Amy introduced boyf to the Doctor, she said "this is my friend" then they looked at each other and said "boyfriend" and seemed shifty. IF the Doctor had just turned up and I was her fiance I would have been shouting it at him!!

Surely they couldn't resurrect Donna again?!! I'd hope there was more imagination than that on the writing team!

SoupDragon · 06/04/2010 12:02

They may not have been engaged then - what was the time lag between the end of the action and the dress? 6 months?

Ah, ok then, missed the time jump when I was thinking about it today (and avoiding the housework)

May be its wishful thinking that they wouldn't recycle old plots?

SoupDragon · 06/04/2010 12:24

Donna never occurred to me when it was clear Amy was meant to be getting married the next day. It's not a complete recycling, this was almost just an aside, not a whole plot like Donna's.

KayHarker · 06/04/2010 13:26

Well, you could say there's a whole lot in the episode that has been done before - the Doctor meeting someone as a child and then as an adult - The Girl in The Fireplace. A room full of comatose patients suddenly calling out - The Empty Child. A video conference between lots of people - The Stolen Earth etc.

But the nature of story-telling, and Doctor Who in particular, is that there are themes and ideas which work and in the context of time travel some things work particularly well. I'm looking forward to the return of River Song later in the series, and I'm sure that wibbly wobbly timey wimey will play a part, and that's ok.

at least we now know why she had a better screwdriver.

SoupDragon · 06/04/2010 15:53

I preferred the blue screwdriver - don't like the colour of the green one at all

KayHarker · 06/04/2010 17:31

I shall have to update my screwdriver when the new merchandise comes out. Nothing says middle-aged-oddball like signing cheques with a sonic screwdriver.

Don't think we know enough about wedding dress to complain yet- could there not be some serious plot clue, in that the Bud Guys would know the Dr had a relationship of sorts with Amy so have targetted her and possibly be the groom?

I hope so otherwise that seems very Donna and the less bright boyfriend who is a nice guy really very Micky / Rose

aloevera · 06/04/2010 19:58

Did anyone notice the shape of the crack in the wall was the same shape as a line on one of the screens in the tardis? Spoooooky!!

Pixel · 06/04/2010 21:07

How is it going to work with River Song? When she met him (Ten) in the library she said "you look so young". I just can't work out how that can be when she was from the future as far as The Doctor was concerned, therefore implying that the Doctor she knew was older. And Eleven looks even younger!

Don't know if any of that makes sense, I'm confusing myself trying to explain what I mean.

aloevera · 06/04/2010 21:18

Pixel, I've been wondering that too. I never understood why they didn't go back to that story line with DT. Especially with the tantalizing knowing his name thing. I expect that they will make up some timey-wimy stuff, maybe things go wrong or something changes?

confuddledDOTcom · 06/04/2010 22:04

Pixel, I think that although to a human he looks younger he is actually older and she - being from his future - knows that he was younger in that incarnation, whatever he "looks" like. If that makes sense.

KayHarker · 06/04/2010 22:07

It was also something about his 'eyes' if I recall, which can mean something quite ephemeral.

"And I think he had to delete his internet history because the doctor had done things that he shouldn't have access to after the emergency was over. "

Really?! I'm amazed there is any doubt what he was talking about.

I really liked the new doctor, and am glad Amy is the new assistant This series should be fun

Hermya321 · 06/04/2010 23:30

Kayharker I laughed when you mentioned your sonic screwdriver pen. Be as oddball as you like!!

Kaloki Hello there!

SimonCowellIsSatan · 06/04/2010 23:55

It was brilliant. I'm a massive fan of DW going back to 1981 age 3 and I think Matt Smith is simply stunning. I have a feeling he was born for this role.

Moffat is a spectacular writer. This is going to be the best yet!!

Kaloki · 07/04/2010 00:03

Hermya Just baked shortbread, want some?

I am glad Moffat is writing now, much prefer his writing. I'm glad the humour is back, DT's doctor was getting a little too angsty for my liking

Hermya321 · 07/04/2010 00:08

Kaloki I would LOVE some, sounds yummy. I do agree with you DT's Doc was doing miserable too much for my liking. Actually thinking back, thats probably why I liked this Doc. He was so lively and bouncy, it was like a breath of fresh air. I think DT's Doc was never the same after loosing Rose, after that the depression just kind of took over a bit.

HerBeatitude · 07/04/2010 08:58

Soupdragon I can't believe that you can't believe that people have noticed the implications of the normalisation of porn and that you call any objection to that "whinging".
