I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

I've just caught up with it on BBC iplayer, it was brilliant!!!

I loved it, I think there's a small square on my shrine to DT where I pop a postcard with new Doc on it.

I must admit when I saw the adverts with her wearing a police uniform I thought she was going to be a police woman, I was a bit disapointed that she wasn't. Oh well!!!

HerBeatitude · 05/04/2010 14:10

LOL, it's true isn't it, "it's only there if you want to see it"

But I didn't want to see it, I'd rather it wasn't there. It's so clever, all innuendo and deniability - I could equally argue that it's only not there if you insist on it not being there. It's only not there if you don't want it to be there.

Very clever writing by SM, he can deny whatever he wants to and wink at the reference to a different audience.

What struck me, is that DT looked about ten years younger than he actually is, while MS looks about ten years older than he is.

EggyAllenPoe · 05/04/2010 14:11

i think the point is...if that was a reference to porn, it was neither a favourable, nor approving one, more along the lines of 'you're pathetic'

leonie, get a hold of yourself, please. it was a reference to porn. you knew it at the time and you know it now, stop trying to rewrite history, you're sounding silly.

you've already acknowledged that you thought it was a reference to pornography... whether or not you have a problem with that is the issue at hand, surely? some people don't, like clarissimo i think who said it went over her children's heads, and that's a fair point i think. i wasn't bothered at the time but now think yerk, what is that saying to young girls watching?

HerBeatitude · 05/04/2010 14:27

LOL, it's not a question of your mind being in the gutter. It's just obtuse to be so dogmatic that it's definitely not a reference to porn. It is supposed to be a nod and a wink to it - so people who see no evil, hear no evil, will decide he was looking up engine parts (or something else geeky) and everyone else will know perfectly well what it was - they'll make the connection a) because of the kissogram and b) because the guy didn't look like a stereotype geek.

But do carry on claiming that it couldn't possibly be porn and anyone who thinks it was has obviously got a dirty mind.

AitchTwoZone · 05/04/2010 14:28

i dunno, eggy, the doc wasn't disapproving imo, he was more co9ncerend about the guy being found out when he was building him up as a hero etc.

HerBeatitude · 05/04/2010 14:37

D'you think there's a thread about it on DrWho Geek forums?

"He was looking up star wars"

"No he was looking up Lord of the Rings"

"No he was looking at porn"

"No he was researching sports equipment"

"I think he was looking at travel sites"

"It's so obvious he was trolling on Mumsnet"

SearchingForMyInnerJoan · 05/04/2010 15:40

Are you all Daily Mail readers??
On today's front page (I always make a point of browsing the tabloid headlines at the newsagent..) "Dr Who assistant too sexy"
TOO SEXY FOR WHAT?

This is ridiculous - I'm off to a real Dr Who chat forum >

AitchTwoZone · 05/04/2010 16:18

actually i did find myself wishing that she was in a more opaque tight. truefact.

HerBeatitude · 05/04/2010 16:19

Can't you tell the difference between sexy and porn? are you a Daily Mail reader?

AitchTwoZone · 05/04/2010 16:21

black 20 denier so unflattering, even to great legs.

Nah disagree, 20 denier fine if you have good legs.

crikey, it's a bit heavy in here. Have people somewhere really got their knickers in a twist because Amy has long legs? Blimey

(although point taken about the subtle porn references - but it wasn't done with any positive spin, so I think it's acceptable)

It seems that dh picked up on the 'delete your internet history' as meaning that the chap was looking at porn - so I am clearly rather dim/innocent. Thinking about it, though, I can see that I was wrong - but I'm not sure it is a huge deal - most children aren't going to pick up on that bit, and those that do can probably be deflected with some waffle about security problems leaving links to NASA etc.

I don't think it is a particularly new thing to put the odd sly bit of 'adult' humour in a kids programme - I remember watching 'Trapdoor' nearly 20 years ago, and Berk walloping some monster that was coming through the trapdoor, with the immortal line, 'It's bonkin' time again - I loves a bit o' bonkin'!'

AvadaKedavra · 05/04/2010 19:42

The wedding dress.

Could it not be a Kissogram outfit thrown in as a red herring to get us all oh no not another bride scenario!

?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 05/04/2010 20:01

I have no problem with amy and her "sexy" look- no worse then anything else seen on tv ( or for that matter, far more covered up than most of pictures of women on the mail website)

both dh and I thought the references were to porn- surprising, inappropriate but def appeared as a 'joke' for the parents rather than for the dc to pick up on. I think it doesn't take a dirty mind to understand the hints, if you are an adult.

Still loved it.

AitchTwoZone · 05/04/2010 20:03

no the daily mail has got its knickers in a twist and then gone looking on forums to substansiate it, i don't think anyone really cares other than me and it's more that i'm creeped out by the thin denier than anything else, they make people's legs look like grey sausages imo.

AitchTwoZone · 05/04/2010 20:07

god, yeah, seashells, she looked absolutely stunning i thought (other than the sausage casings), definitely a beautiful girl. i actually found her slightly over acty but have just watched again with dd1 and wasn't as bothered. agree that the wee girl was fab, some of her reactions were perfect.

someone mentioned her eye colour being different, and it was. but personally i'm rather proud that they took the decision not to inflict coloured contacts on a kid for what is, after all, just a silly tv show.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 05/04/2010 20:16

Aitch she's young enough to wear 20s and still look fab. Personally I need tights black, thick, a size to small and a bottle of nail varnish in my bag for the inevitable ladders if I wear a mini skirt these days.

TheEarthIsFlat · 05/04/2010 20:22

Avada, good point about the dress. It did seem a bit fussy for someone so slim so hope you're right.

I know the thread's moved on, but wanted to add my support to the new doctor - I didn't want to like him, but was seriously impressed. Some of the camera shots were a bit annoying (the jumpy stuff when he was reviewing what he'd seen) and the music could have been a bit more subtle. But I'm pretty sure they're after younger viewers now rather than oldies like me. dd (4) thought it was great and not a bit scared.

TrillianAstra · 05/04/2010 22:22

I think I must have a similar brain to Stephen Moffat or something...

*he's not coming back
*she's the same girl - it's much later
*that skirt/nails/tights with seam down the back = sexy policewoman costume not real policewoman
getting married in the morning
I am
a mad man with a box
(and some more)

Agree that 20 denier tights are not flattering.

And I think he had to delete his internet history because the doctor had done things that he shouldn't have access to after the emergency was over.
