I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

SeashellsOnTheSeaShore, Donna was my favourite one!

DD4 has not stopped saying "I hate apples!" since last night. She does not spit them out yet but I am waiting{smile]

maamalady · 04/04/2010 09:05

I liked it - new assistant is good and easily likeable. SO much better than Catherine Tate, who grated on me with every episode. The jury is still out on Matt Smith - when he calmed down a bit I liked him, but particularly in the beginning he was a bit too childish for me. Can't wait for the next episode to see what happens next. I will reserve judgment on Matt Smith for at least another episode.

Flame · 04/04/2010 09:09

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

Sat there muttering "Well she's clearly a stripper and not a policewoman" the second I saw her skirt, and we both said "So she's got a wedding then" but other than that, was enjoyable.

Wasn't overly happy with the food spitting, just seemed pointless.

Feel he was Smith being Tenant being The Dr, but he needs time to settle. I think he will come into himself more with time.

Should have stuck with the yellow tie instead of the bow tie.

Oh my! I really enjoyed it. I was so worried DW would be ruined forever, but was actually brilliant. MS my not be very conventional looking, but that may add to his charm.
DSs loved the food spitting bit, and the fire engine. (dh laughed at deleting internet history)
Not too keen on new theme tune, but will probably just be a matter of getting used to it. DH loves Amy and her lovely long legs.

Do we think the fact it said myth on back of the laptop in greek letters means something??

ShrinkingViolet · 04/04/2010 09:25

read somewhere that throughout this episode it was him growing from toddlerhood to adult (ish) so the food spitting was the "I want that.. I hate that" of a stroppy toddler.

AvadaKedavra · 04/04/2010 09:49

So nice to see an episode that's set in a pretty little village and not set in London

Hermya321 · 04/04/2010 10:50

Evilgiraffe Hello there!!!

It was brilliant wasn't it!!

Clarissimo · 04/04/2010 11:00

I liked the bow tie but dh has a thing of wearing them with a DJ so I associate them with phwoarr (for thsoe who've met DH I promise he looks better in DJ than camping gear LOL )

Ellie- my boiys had also started to outgrow Dr Who too and came back to it with a vengeance last night. And ds4 is running about pointing his fingers at people in the manner of a sonic screwdrive3r expecting us to all go @aarrggghh' (he is only just about to turn two)

I didn't find MS sexy though but that might change. HAd encoun tered DT in theatre before Dr Who but not MS so no preconceptions IYSWIM, DT rolling about shirtless in Look Back In ANger ahd a certain.....

maamalady · 04/04/2010 11:05

Hellooooo Hermya!

Notbymuch · 04/04/2010 11:14

Wasn't convinced by MS in his press junkets, but he definitely brushes up well when he's in full production make-up and lighting!
Thought the script by Steven Moffat was really good - looking forward to more of his work. Have admired his way with words since 'Press Gang' back in the '80's
And I liked Amy. She seemed spiky and brave - perfect companion for the Doctor.
Pre-transmission expectations of this new Dr = 6/10
Post-tranmission scoring = 8/10,
All to play for!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/04/2010 11:23

I'm a Tom Baker fan so am looking forward to watching the cybermen later. dd is a Peter Davison fan so I think it will be Caves of Androzani this afternoon.

We are so spoiled nowadays. I would have done anything as a kid for all the Who stuff that is available.

MrsSaxon · 04/04/2010 12:07

I loved it, and am a massive DT and CE fan, and originally Tom Baker.

I was confoosabobbed about a few things though. If her parents are "gone" how come her mum is still carving faces on apples?

confuddledDOTcom · 04/04/2010 12:25

Thanks Rusty, I didn't know that and I passed St John History!

MrsSaxon, I think she meant that her mum did that before she died.

gizmo · 04/04/2010 12:55

Happy days, there's another 12 Saturday evenings dominated by an Immovable Event. With any luck this will get me through to my due date. Having to eat some humble pie in the Gizmo household, however, having spent many months insisting (despite my ferocious crush on DT) that it is the Art, darling, that matters, and the Moff's writing skills will ensure this series is going to be great, I'm a bit shamefaced to find how much I miss DT. On the whole MS was very good - better, I thought, when he wasn't channelling DT, but oh it was just a bit wierd to have a new Doctor. The only solution, I fear, is time & total immersion.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 04/04/2010 12:55

That was so fantastic... Impressed by both Doctor and new assistant - and it all made sense within itself. Loved the pace too - much faster than previous
'launch' episodes I think?

And I may have to take DS to buy a new screwdriver on Tuesday [pathetic geek mother]

essenceofSES · 04/04/2010 13:14

Oooh! I lurved it
Have a strange mix of missing DT feelings but really excited by what is to come.

I agree MS does look like he's wearing a mask but it's almost like he's got an older wiser face on a younger body which is quite suitable for DW.

New assistant fab too!

Also noticed "The silence is coming" seemed to be a repeated theme. Have to wait and see on that one I guess.

Not sure about new titles but trailer for the rest of the series left me wanting to watch it all....now!

Tinuviel · 04/04/2010 13:45

Mrs Saxon, "If her parents are "gone" how come her mum is still carving faces on apples?"

I think she said that's what her mum used to do, so she did it for the Dr.

I wasn't overly impressed at the start of the episode but MS was better than I thought he would be and I think he will grow into the role.

Assistant was good. Nice location. Acceptable start without being 'stunning'!!

Am looking forward to it getting better.

cornsilk · 04/04/2010 15:49

when the little girl was sat waiting for the doctor at the end you could hear the tardis.Did he appear to her as a child after all then? Why doesn't she remember?

mollybob · 04/04/2010 15:51

My DD was heart broken at the loss of DT but already loves MS and quite fancies him - lots of funny moments and a real relief after the DT miserable Doctor of last year but with enough hints of darkness to keep it interesting. 12 more weeks of Saturday night family shared watching (by the middle of witch DC3 should have arrived).

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 04/04/2010 16:07

gorionine I knew I wouldn't be popular saying that! DH liked her too, but I agree with Evilgiraffe, she grated...I struggled to watch some episodes I guess its marmite. Same as DT some of my friends really don't get the obsession

mollybob · 04/04/2010 16:21

cornsilk - I thought that was Amy dreaming about the doctor not coming and then being woken by the sound of the Tardis in real life.

cornsilk · 04/04/2010 17:19

Yes that makes sense- doh!

BalsamicJam · 04/04/2010 17:22

As I said, I enjoyed the new doctor but when I woke up this morning I realised that he reminded me very much of this character here

midlandsmumof4 · 04/04/2010 17:24

Loved it-what more can I say-cept the new doc is a bit young for me. 3 of my sons are older .
