"Turns out, we'd been looking at the monster all along, and it wasn't the things in the tank." sums up why people found it so hard

I wonder if they made Gwen pregnant not because she is really as that wasn't showing but so that she would have some understanding of what it is like to feel like mamatiger

abraid · 11/07/2009 17:09

I noted the windows, too.

I am very envious of people with beautiful windows.

Housemum · 11/07/2009 18:10

UQD - it was the other way round in our house DH liked the windows!

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 11/07/2009 18:15

I think we will see lois again, she was good.

I would so love those contacts

titchy · 11/07/2009 18:44

Anyone think Captain Jack's choice of Stephen was a God reference - sacrificing his only son (well grandson) to save the world? Then disappearing into the sky (heaven).

I found it utterly brilliant. And dark. And poignant (blubbed loads ). The first few were funny (Hey Ianto you gone bender?), then it dissolved into a dark satire on the government and civil service. Interesting how it was the civil servant who quietly worked hard (the archetypal anonymous man in grey) who found himself promoted so high to then be manupulated by the cabinet so.

Did wonder why Frobisher's girls were chosen though - they were so obvioulsy NOT pre-pubescent.

Also wondered about babies and toddlers, and how the other countries were going to choose their 10% as the plan wouldn't work without their donation of 'units'.

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 11/07/2009 18:49

I think they should have shown us the other country's moving their children as well

OllieWollieWoo · 11/07/2009 18:55

Sorry to be a real pain but could some lovely person summarise what happend in the last episode - missed it, power cut so dvd didnt record and cos I don't live in the UK I can't watch it on iplayer (dam you bbc!. Spent ages looking for a summary but not found a thing and now its all bugging me!

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 11/07/2009 19:04

gwen and hubby tries to save ianto's family by hiding out but were found

jack waslocked up after Torchwood gave up

Dark haired warrior lady sprung him after a pep talk about r4sponsiblity to state abd overall good, plus being reassured by his daughter he was the best

Jack miraculously cottoned on after brief chat with creepy weird little radio waves man that you could reverse the frequency of the same noise used to finish off old Clem

By now all kids being trounded up, aliens refusing to accept 80% found so kidhunt under way with associated riotsiing / screaming aprenets etc

jack needs child toreverse frequency, only one about is his own grandiosn, used Grandson, Grandson horribly shakes and fits and then his brain burns up

Jacks daughter most displeased (HATED her, that constant smile! yeesh!)

Alien explodes

kiddy drop called off

Frobisher in meantime ahs been told his kids are token gift to aliens so goes home and shoots them all, sensibly I feel

Oh we found out aliens wanted kids for druggy hit not survival

britney spears uses Lois's lenses to wrecord nasty PM saying how lucky tehy'd been and worrying about spin not potentialsacrificed kids, gets him booted out of Government but scary lady whose idea it was takes over

Jack goes off to recover, comes back 6 months later for his thing y device so he can go cruisng with the aliens (in all sense of the phrase no doubt)

nobody tells us if there was more than one alien or not (yep its still annoying me PMSL....)

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 11/07/2009 19:42

Alien looked like a mad flamingo

edam · 11/07/2009 19:45

ace summary, peachy!

Earthymama · 11/07/2009 19:53

DP is convinced this is THE END of Torchwood!!

Has anyone got any idea if this is true?

I've just watched back episodes of Ghost Whisperer (not in same category but I like it) and one of main characters killed off....I'm giving up on TV, it's too sad.

gillybeanie · 11/07/2009 19:54

i thought the Dr deactivated that device thing (at the end of the last one with the master)

gillybeanie · 11/07/2009 19:58

i think i was more disturbed at the episode of Dr Who when Bernard Cribbens was locked in the the smoked filled car...i mean the voice of the wombles!!!!
Will seriously miss Torchwood though, was looking forward for a few weeks of it, not all condensed in one week

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 11/07/2009 20:03

But there has been a torchwood for over a hundred years and I think more then one so yes it will be back

TheFool · 11/07/2009 20:24

that review was perfect

edam · 11/07/2009 20:35

The Torchwood episodes on Radio Four have featured Torchwood India - apparently during the days of Empire there were outposts everywhere... (not sure where else, only caught five minutes in passing).

OK, one thing that has been bothering me is the whole 325,000 thing. That's supposed to be one-tenth of the children in the country, right? Thought that sounded odd - I know this is anorak city but there are something like 700,000 births a year in England and Wales alone. I went and checked and according to the ONS, there were 11.5m children under 16 in the UK last year. So what's with 325,000?

There was some stuff in the episodes about maybe 456 wanting pre-pubescent children. Even so, you don't get to 3.25m...

RustyBear · 11/07/2009 23:01

Well, I can only find statistics for 2003, but there were 4,022,656 pupils in full-time primary education that year - 10% would be 402,000, so not all that far out really.

edam · 11/07/2009 23:11

Bless you Rusty, I thought I might be the only one sad enough to be bothered about the stats!

RustyBear · 11/07/2009 23:24

Well, I am married to a statistician....

edam · 11/07/2009 23:27

That must make for entertaining pillow talk.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 11/07/2009 23:35

I didn't believe the Frobisher thing. I think he would have killed the PM then and there and/ or got his wife to hide the kids and ensured the torchwood tapes got broadcast.

People go to enormous lengths before killing their children. (with some notable exceptions)

I also didn't get why Torchwood would keep quiet about the tapes. They'd be on YouTube as soon as - why would they suppress the, what did they have to lose?

hmc · 11/07/2009 23:37

"I think he would have killed the PM then"

Abso-chuffin'-lutely, who faced with such extreme provocation could have resisted the urge to tighten their hands around his neck. I could imagine that you would be so enraged you would have the strength of ten men and would be a formidable force of primeval rage.

hmc · 11/07/2009 23:42

"Do you really think people would choose to sacrifice 10% of our children?"

If this happened in reality, it would mean a total descent into anarchy and a breakdown of society. When families discovered what had become of their children - some would descend into bleak impotent misery, others would take up arms and in vigilante / guerilla style tactics would hunt down and kill those in positions of authority and power that they deemed responsible for the outrage. There would be riots and unrest globally on a scale never seen before...

Just as well it is fiction then!
